Kids' team hit with bounty scandalUpdated: September 28, 2012, 2:27 PM ETAssociated Press Recommend272Tweet0Comments143EmailPrintTUSTIN, Calif. -- The league president and head coach of a children's football team in Orange County have been suspended amid allegations that players were offered bounties to knock opponents out of games.

The executives presided over last year's Tustin Junior Pee Wee Red Cobras, a team of mainly 10- and 11-year-olds.

The Orange County Register says a group of parents alleges that head coach Darren Crawford and an assistant coach offered players cash for getting big hits and for knocking rivals out of playoff games last season. One player suffered a mild concussion.

National Pop Warner officials say Crawford and Tustin president Pat Galentine have been suspended until the program investigates the allegations and issues a ruling.

Crawford, Galentine and former assistant coach Richard Bowman have denied the allegations

Face it, the world has changed and people are still catching up. I'm 42 now and agree this is a sad, sad story. I can say though that in the 7th and 8th grade, our parents and coaches would reward us for big hits. We were also coached to "kill the QB" within the rules. I led the team and sacks and sent a QB to the sideline on a few occasions. Yes I was very proud of myself, as was my parents, coaches, and fans.....

I agree, but peewee league was no different. We were all taught at an early age to lay the lumber and knock the QB out. We all wanted to be like LT, and every other vicious hitter in the NFL. We're evolving, and these jackholes are still living in the 70s/80s.

It is very sad. Some/Many parents are ruining kids sports.

When my son was 5 yo he was playing soccer and the two coaches got into a shouting match and ended up in a fist fight during the game. My son still associated Soccer with fighting. To many parents living out their short coming through their kids. Very sad indeed.

Late 70s early 80s.... definitely a different time. I also grew up inner city, so dial up the violence notch a few clicks. I can remember coaches and fans throwing down on a regular basis during Little League baseball. Not pretty! Nothing like that ever happened at FB though. Probably becasue I played for my Catholic grade school. Catholic or not, we were still coached to do, and rewarded for things that would not be tolerated today. Even in HS (I went to Roncalli HS in Indy), we were taught certain things that did not really promote player safety :). Again, we evolve.

i feel like this is one reason kids get burnt out or dont wanna play to begin with...parents are too *uckin serious about this...they are just kids and ive seen some of the bigger ones fail and the smaller ones prevail because we cant predict how much they grow or how much they fall in love with the game...these dumb bastards "coaching" them think they were fantastic athletes in their day and "kids today" dont match up...i'll tell them this: kids are bigger, faster, stronger than when i played and i dont wanna block them and i'd bet you a paycheck you cant so shut the $#@% up...its not the kids its these fools raising them
