interesting, even though they say there is no correlation, in list of qb's they us as an example, there are 7 that scored above 25.

Alex Smith: 40
Eli Manning: 39
Matthew Stafford: 38
Tom Brady: 33
Steve Young: 33
John Elway: 30
Drew Brees: 28

and 6 below 25:

Tim Tebow: 22
Michael Vick: 20
Dan Marino: 16
Vince Young: allegedly got a 6, then retested and got 15.
Donovan McNabb: 14
Jeff George: 10

5 of the 7 scoring above 25 are legit stars at qb (Brees, Elway, Young, Manning, Brady) with one (Stafford) yet to be determined. it could be 6 of 7. (and 4 are/will be in the Hall of Fame-i doubt Eli will ever see the HOF except when he goes to see his brother get inducted)

2 of the 6 scoring below 25 are/were legit stars (McNabb, Marino) at qb with one (Tebow) to be determined. most dont expect him to be a star at qb and Michael Vick, Vince Young, and Jeff George always had the knock of being poor at reading defenses (and Vick could never throw a football accurately). i think it will remain at 2 of 6. (and certainly only 2 of them are/will be in the Hall of Fame). no i dont consider vick to be a great qb. a great athlete who played qb and could never throw accurately or read defenses.

i guess i think the examples they use do show a correlation, but im not saying there is one. id have to see more scores.

I'm a little surprised that Jimmy only scored a 23 and Bradford scored a 36!? I know the apparent correlation between test score and NFL success is absent, but the characteristics Jimmy posses had me thinking that he would have scored higher...

I guess I am just biased and automatically expect a ND student athlete to produce a higher score.

no. i was referring to the list of qb's they used for comparisons sake, so i stuck to that. clausen wasnt on that list. it would not have changed my argument that the list of low scoring qb's was made up of only 2 true top tier qb's.

still, there are examples of Hall of Fame qb's with low scores. Brett Favre scored a 21, Marino 14.

Brady had a very good score...just accept it graciously. And certainly, nobody can argue with his athletic skills. Like some of you, I, too, was disappointed in Clausen's score. But, I still beleive Jimmy will make us all proud once he starts playing in the NFL......depending, of course, if he is lucky enough to play behind an offensive line that wil provide some degree of protection.....unlike his first 2 years at Notre Dame. Also, hopefully, Quinn will get a better O-Line next year.

Brees, Marino and McNabb all had far lower scores than Jimmy........... what are we crying about?... really this is just a bat on the back to Sam Bradford... good kid, good player, good job kid!

who knows? depending on where he ends up, he may just be holding a clipboard again. the Browns are clearly shopping Quinn. i think Holmgren wants to go in a different direction.

dskoo65, Wonderlic is new to me. After reading the initially posted on this thread, I took a sample test and was left high and drigh. I skipped through the ridiculously tedious questions and went straight to the easy ones, but the sample questions ended after about 2 minutes.

Based on the sample 14 question test, I would say it is good to finish in the middle of that test. Give me more info on that test. Send me a p.m. with your info, as well as a check for 49.99.

I expect better from you, and my post was in reference to him having a slow start at Michigan. But he did graduate with honors....

Spare me the condescension. I couldn't care less about what you expect. I was not referring to you my friend. I was serious that I took the test last night, but it was only a sample test. Hope my ND friends don't bash me, but I have absolutely no animosity toward any school. I get madder at ND for losing to anyone than I get pissy about another University (except Miami in the late 70s-90s). And I didn't single out any school. Notice, U of Miami, UMmm?

I heard vince young had a retest...but during his initial test...they had to replace his test booklet on multiple occasions. He kept putting the booklet in his mouth....he thought Wonderlic was a kind of candy........ I would pay cash money to see him try to read a book out loud....it would be a quality experience

It wasn't a quality experience when 4 time All Pro James Brooks a graduate of Warner Robbins HS in GA and 4 year star RB for Auburn testified in a court case that he was a functional illiterate.

He was the poster child (poster man) for teachers's and coach's "passing" a kid along because he played football.

I live in Texas, attended Grad studies at UT... it is a quality school.... but like most programs where Football is King...academic success or lack there of is tragically comical... This is one of the reasons Notre Dame is such a great University... Our Players take challenging curriculum, and actually benefit from a higher education.

Ha I did the same thing. The questions were very easy. Where they get you is the 12 minutes to answer 50 questions. Most people should be able to answer 2 a minute and score around a 25. Scoring a 30+ seems pretty good.

Its not something you would study for. A 5th grader could answer all the questions right given enough time. Its all about quick logical thinking.

Greg McElroy scored a 48 on the test! This with a cast on the hand he was writing with! Wow genius!

You ever notice how QB's who are winners have high wonderlic scores, except for Tebow...just saying.

I'm not sure why teams care about Wonderlic scores. The test measures cognitive ability, which as applied to football is supposed to measure a player's ability to learn the plays, what he's supposed to do in the scheme, and generally how mentally ready the player is for the NFL.

Does it really matter if it takes the player 1 month or 1.5 months to learn the plays? Unless the paying the player to learn new plays each week (which doesn't happen unless you change coaches frequently), then there's no value in measuring this. Teams have a playbook, players need to learn it before the season begins, so they know what to do in the team's scheme. And mentally ready for the NFL? Wtf does that even mean? You're taking a school test with limited time under a lot of pressure. Just because a nerd can do the same with the SAT doesn't mean he can play football. After all, Ryan Leaf scored a 27. Was he more mentally prepared for the NFL than the average rookie?

The Wonderlic is actually pretty tough. I had to take it before I could start interviewing with the company that I work for now. I got a 34 but the time flies by. Has anyone else here ever taken it?

I think the wonderlick is important for a QB, because in the wonderlick you have to process information fast, much like a QB at the line of scrimmage going over the defense and then 3 seconds in the pocket to decipher their reads and make the correct throw.
