Do you guys think that Duval will reach his full potential this coming season?

After his freshman season I thought he might go down as one of the most prolific WRs in Notre Dame history... He just seemed to fall behind in the depth chart to Golden Tate and Michael Floyd.

So with Golden gone were do you guys rank Duval in the main WR stats for the 2010 season.

My Predictions:

3rd in TDs.... (Behind Floyd and Rudolph)
2nd in Yards... (Behind Floyd)
2nd in total catches... (Behind Floyd)

one can only hope. but he has not shown the necessary dedication to reach his potential...also with hands like his one can only wonder how good he really can be

I thought he did pretty well last year. He is not the Mo 2.0 that we hoped for, but he is still a good receiver.

I thought he should have been on the field more instead of Robby Parris last season. I'm not sure how well he fits in Kelly's offense though.

I agree with you about Robby... I loved him to death, but I think Duval should have gotten a lot more touches.

if he deserved to be on the field he would have been there. playing time is earned during the week as well as on saturdays

Or, maybe Chuck made a mistake by not playing him... Wouldn't have been his only one at that.

I think you'll see that there was a reason he wasn't out there. Hell, just based on the sample that we saw, he had trouble hanging on to the ball. I think this year will be the one where the underclassmen pass him by for good.

I know what you mean, but he has showed so much potential at times... I just want to believe he'll get out of his funk.

Although, I could definitely see Shaq and Tai-ler doing great in Kelly's spread.

when he showed up to camp way over weight i knew what kind of work ethic he had. bottom line is he showed a lot of promise on a very bad team. he could have been at his peak then. he has shown very little improvement and i do not see that changing.

I agree, i see shaq passing for sure, and I even think tai-ler is gonna get some great looks this year so duval sits on the bench and accomplishes nothing important like the last few years he's been here.

I donno about everyone else but the images in my head of Duval are him dropping passes and having penalties called on him. Rarely do I recall watching a game and saying good job to him. I hope he does reach his potential, but I see him on the bench.

The bottom line is this:

It's time for this young man to have a gut check. Period. If he wants it, he has the capability. If he is lazy and doesn't reach for it in the offseason and Spring, then he will be passed up.

I do recall a crucial first down play we made somewhere last season that I was pleasantly surprised by. I cannot remember the game, but the kid is no where the clutch player we had with Robby Paris. Paris didn't let the game's pressure "slow" him down. lol!

Here's to hoping our fella Duval will step up so he may remember his tenure at SB to have been a successful one!

Hopefully Longo will kick Duval's butt into shape.

It would be nice to a good 6-5 receiver to be in with smaller ones like shaq and tai-ler.

Hopefully he'll reach his potential.

with a new system, maybe he is more effective in the spread. great thing going for him, he still has the opportunity to give it a shot.

Unfortunately, I think he has already reached his full potential. You mention his freshman year; what people seem to forget, about his freshman year, is that he had trouble hanging on to relatively easy catches, even back then. He made some "circus catches", as a freshman, but he also dropped alot of easy balls. I have nothing against the guy, I just think that people bought into some unrealistic expectations for the kid.

I'm not seeing it, but I hope I'm wrong. He was supposed to be a good possession guy, particularly in the red zone. One must catch the ball to be effective in the red zone...

Maybe this is his year though. Best of luck to him.

As documented here many, many times, I've never been a fan and I just don't get the hype, even as a freshman, as kmoose said. Not a fan of his hands, his work ethic, his lack of toughness when it comes to going after jump balls and making sure that at worst it's an incompletion, etc.

However, I will say this though: Towards the end of the year, he stopped dropping balls, even making some tough sideline catches that Jimmy put some real zip on. I was surprised, and very impressed. I don't know how he'll fit into this offense, and I don't know if those late-season hands he showed were for real, but he showed me that something is there. Hope he proves me dead wrong this year and breaks out, but I'm not holding my breath...

I'm just wondering why Duval didn't seem dedicated to becoming better...
He just didn't seem to push himself.

I wonder if he had issues with some coaches...

Maybe the new coaching staff will bring in new relationships and maybe he'll be happier.

Hopefully Duval gets serious.

Give the kid a break, he played most of last season hurt (knee) and did his all to contribute as a blocker. I think he is a good teammate and think he really lost a lot of confindence his sophmore year. I'm hoping he'll have a big year this year. Jersey Pride!

AMEN Brother...THATS the image I have.

And for everyone who thinks he was a better call than Robby Paris...WHEN? Robby made some clutch grabs...Duval...not so much.

All I hope is that some maturity sets in, because he could be good...big kid, athletic...just needs to get his head right. As others noted, he has a chance to lose all the baggage and light it up under Kelly...heres to hoping he does just that.

I really don't get everybody questioning Duval's work ethic and calling him lazy. He had some issues when he reported to camp before his sophomore season. That's when Weis had him wear #60 until he dropped the weight.

All the reports last year had Duval in the best shape of his life heading into the season last year. I believe that he stayed around SB with a few other guys (Ian Williams and Brian Smith I think) to workout during the summer. Great shape - and then came the knee injury and surgery.

And he was the best blocking WR on the roster. That's not going to come from a lazy player.

I don't expect big things from Duval next year. I think he will be in the WR rotation and be a solid possession receiver, but I don't think he'll be a matchup nightmare for opponents in the redzone. I just think it's a talent issue, not a work ethic issue.

I think that's just people assuming any decision Weis made was the wrong one...Paris was one tough SOB over the middle.
