I own more Notre Dame games on dvd than I probably should, some going back to the 60's, many against various SEC teams... most, if not every one, regardless of era , all have some varitaion of the same pre game discussion (even when ND is heavily favored) "Can ND handle the speed, superior talent, blah, blah, blah of the SEC..." and when ND wins there is always some amount of shock by one of the commentators...

it's been a very common theme for decades now.

I am an Irish fan. Have been since the early 70s. Telling my age I know. I also love college football. I don't bash SEC teams. I respect them much more than their fans. There have been SEC teams in the past that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching. 85 UT, early 90s Alabama. (With a common bowl opponent) The most dominant college football team I have seen in my life (said this before) was mid nineties Nebraska. So I am not pure Irish bias. The Irish can play with anyone in the country this year. ANYONE! They find ways to win and overcome adversity. Thats the sign of good teams. Plus I really like the kids that play for the Irish. This Irish team is a special group to me, and I have watched alot of special Irish teams.

Im currently living in the Jacksonville area as well. My wife went to Georgia and her entire family went to FSU. After the bowl game last year, which we attended, I have yet to hear the end of it!
UNTIL NOW! We are #1!
They can make all the claims they want but the fact remains you are only as good as your current standing (not necessarily a BCS # ranking but it plays a part).... I havent been hearing too much jaw flapping as of late

Didnt know where else to put this, he still doesn't think ND is that good but worth a read about the SEC this year

SEC must have cracked the BCS codes, because league is overrated this year - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com News, Scores, Stats, Schedule and BCS Rankings

It's a Ponzi scheme, this 2012 SEC fraud, built upon layers of air. Georgia is great because it has beaten Florida. Florida is great because it has beaten Texas A&M. Texas A&M is great because it has beaten Alabama...Alabama's best win in the league came against LSU, which struggled with mediocre Ole Miss and lousy Auburn and was given a scare by Towson or Towson State or Towson Christian or whatever that school is called. Before LSU, Alabama's signature victory was a 38-7 destruction of undefeated and then-No. 13 Mississippi State -- and Mississippi State hadn't beaten anybody either...

The SEC makes the statement that no other team survives in their conference. They act like they all play each other year end and year out. There is nothing further from the truth. They all play SEC teams but maybe only 2 to 3 of the real power teams a season. Then sprinkle in the D2 cupcakes. Good conference no doubt but their schedule practices have hurt their rep in my opinion. I don't think the Irish could run the gauntlet of Bama, Ga., South Carolina, Florida, LSU and A&M in single season unbeaten. But none of them are doing that either.

Even those teams are far from complete. UF and LSU are atrocious on offense.
