What 5 stars? We have none. Sorry you are defensively upset but our DL recruit is not great and losing him hurts. Calling him a project is a silly statement. Do better. :)
I think both Young and Sevillano are two of the most underrated players in this class. I wouldn't say it isn't great

Jamie uyeyama - who most agree is one of the best at film breakdown - considers Scott a project
There’s no doubt he is a project.
I’ve never viewed him as a 5 Star, for me it was more of a perception thing. ND getting a 5 Star DT would look good nationally.

But over a year ago a buddy who lives in the area told me he couldn’t understand in what world Scott was a 5 Star. Said he looks disinterested & half the plays just stands there. No effort, no hustle.
And that’s kind of what his film has shown since. So his ranking is obviously a projection.
The problem is, high upside kids actually have to put in the work to reach the upside. Scott is just lazy & disinterested. He will get a rude awakening going against B1G OL’s with his current attitude.

Beasley didn’t come to the OSU game as once planned. He’s probably out.
Carter Nelson probably won’t leave home. Doesn’t sound like he is coming to the USC game, which was ND’s big chance.

And Justin Scott flat out isn’t coming to ND. If he flips, it’s to Michigan. He just doesn’t want to put the effort in to ND.
Justin Scott...St Ignatius sucks anyway...Go ND College Prep!

I actually liked the film of Ogoboko better than Scott. Massive raw athlete who looks like he's giving effort on every play.

What's better optics, keeping a Chicago kid home or flipping one gettin the dawgs?

Many of the ND reporters have called Justin Scott a progress. And it was wasn’t sour grapes, a few made that opinion known while the “courtship” was in full-effect. Jamie U at ISD, and O’Malley with II.

He is a project. He is a boom or bust type player.

IMO Justin Scott is a 5 Star talent based on god given traits but he's probably closer to a middle of the road 4 star player at the moment.
His traits alone will allow him to flash and because of that would see some time, he's not a project but more of a work in progress.

When he wants to play great football, he’s a Top 75/100 recruit. Combine that with his measureables, I can understand the 5-star status near unanimously given out by the recruiting services.

Exactly. There is no doubt he's a 5 star talent, he's got the traits but he's not playing anywhere near his where he should be on his path to his upside.

Total sour grapes. The kid is a 5 star by most reporting services. He has been as such for a w

Reaper - do you get all your views from Coach D? Seriously Justin Scott has been ranked a top defensive lineman for years by almost every rating service. He was the number one target on Notre Dame sport. Only ESPN has him as a four-star and they’re pretty weak rating service.

He was the number one target on OSU Board - he is not a project. It just sounds like huge sour grapes to say it. None of these crappy comments would be on this board if he committed to Notre Dame. Again he was their #1 DL on their board and now that they didn’t close him… he is a project. Laughable. He will start likely his sophomore year at OSU.

He is not lazy at all. He goes to one of the top schools in Chicago academically he should’ve gone to Notre Dame and it will likely cost our Al Washington his job in addition to the 10 men on the field fiasco.

Is it sour grapes from almost all the ND outlets that viewed Scott as overrated in the rankings? These opinions were known during the spring, not after Scott's commitment to OSU. So there's no "committed elsewhere, never liked him anyway" going on here.

He's overrated. He can be a good player, but he's going to need to work to get there. He's not some sort of impact freshman.

He's going to play for a great DL coach in Larry Johnson that has a lengthy history of developing DL. So maybe you're right about Scott starting a sophomore. But from film reviews and breakdowns, it's near unanimous that he is overhyped a little.

Reaper gets information from a guy that has actually seen Scott play on multiple occasions. It's purely subjective, but also objective.

Howard Cross has had a better career than JT Taulomata. Not sure what that has to do with anything but wanted to say it.

Bruh, practically every ND beat had stated Scott was overrated and not a 5-star player, and this was back even when he was close to committing to ND in January. This isn't sour grapes. It's the same thing that's been said for well over a year.

Pretty much the same sentiment. Had great physical talent, but needed serious work on his technique and consistency. This isn't some new revelation that the ND beat is making up on the fly to cope. They've been saying this months before he committed to Ohio State.

Calling him a project isn't silly, almost every ND writer called him a project and that was back when ND was the favorite to land him so it has nothing to do with being "salty" or "defensively upset." Even the OSU writers have called him a project.
All you care about is star ratings regardless of how good the prospect actually is.
Of course I think he is really good and would love him in the class but loosing him is not the end of the world and not as big of a loss as you make it seem.
Do better!

Crazy - he was the #1 DL prospect by far on our Board. All analysts said he "was a must get" [seems like every IB and B&G show for sure] and now they say he was overrated or a project. Laughable really.

Again, every rating service had him as a 5 star except ESPN. That is a pretty decent amount of national services placing him at the coveted 5-star position. They don't give 5 stars to projects. GMAFB.

I think our 2024 class will be final in the 10-12 range. Typical ND class but with a bent to better Offense.

Freeman needs to focus on Defense closing. Losing Scott is not good. Michigan doing well is not good for ND.
Georgia, Michigan, and Ohio State (and ND) did everything the could to get Scott so frankly I don't care what the save-face ND writers say.

They were throwing themselves at a 4 star project. Yep, got it. Thanks for the education.

The stuff I read said he had 5 star physical abilities, but speculated he would need some time to develop (some would call this a project, but this seems to be a trigger word for some) which meant he probably wouldn't start his first couple of years. Is that not a possibility? Do you guys believe he will start in his first or second year?

We'll never know so who knows, perhaps his snaps at OSU will be a tell. But I think he get ~20 snaps/game here as a true freshman, which makes an impact.

Sometimes it’s crazy to think that some players just don’t want to be at ND regardless how hard the staff works. Everyone has different interests. Idk why it’s hard for some people to understand this.
Staff didn’t work Scott enough winter and spring and Scott went from a lean ND to an OSU verbal. They need to try harder. I bet Washington will be gone because of this.

I wouldn't be upset if Washington left. He's a good coach but an inconsistent recruiter. But I wonder how much it would've helped if we had a DC who actually put in effort on the recruiting front helping out with that recruitment.
