Staff didn’t work Scott enough winter and spring and Scott went from a lean ND to an OSU verbal. They need to try harder. I bet Washington will be gone because of this.
And so far, he has committed to OSU, and apparently, shown up to one of his high school games wearing Georgia gloves. Even if ND did lead at one point, these types of recruitments don't usually work out for ND. Maybe they stopped pushing for Scott because they could see an issue coming with decisions like this. I know you are a HUGE fan of star rankings and that is the most important thing for you.

And I doubt that Washington leaves over this. I would also argue that he has done a good job with the D-line this year. I am not sure what JJB draft grade was when he transferred, but I would be surprise if it hasn't improved at this point. Howard Cross has been really good. Nana is playing well. Mills is playing well. Maybe Washington doesn't worry about 247 rankings when looking at who would be a good fit at ND.

Justin Scott is not a project but he should be better than he is at this point. A project IMO is someone who at the base level has the upside but is a boom or bust type. Someone like Scott might under achieve but will still be solid to good player though, they just won't come anywhere near there upside potential.

Crazy - he was the #1 DL prospect by far on our Board. All analysts said he "was a must get" [seems like every IB and B&G show for sure] and now they say he was overrated or a project. Laughable really.

Again, every rating service had him as a 5 star except ESPN. That is a pretty decent amount of national services placing him at the coveted 5-star position. They don't give 5 stars to projects. GMAFB.
This is incorrect.

ISD stated back in January that he was overrated and had a lot of work to do.

And ISD has WAY more credibility than On3 or our boy Coach D.

That doesn't mean ND didn't prioritize him or go hard after him. They did, because his upside is immense. But based on where he is now, he is not a 5-star, and the beat has stated that.

Even if some analysts said he was a "must get" (which IMO, he isn't), that isn't the same as him being a 5-star talent. I think most would agree that KVA was a must get for ND, and he isn't a 5-star. They aren't the same.

And Rivals? And 247? Whatever.

Scott
  • Is not a 5 star prospect today
  • Someone I would rather risk being a bust at ND than a star at Michigan
  • A blow because we are trying to take back Chicago

“Try harder” lol how do we know how hard they tried? Didn’t he like ND and ND said take visits and then decide? Tbh if they told him to take visits to make sure, sounds like a decent human being thing to say to a 17 yo. Also if he did commit in the early spring/ late winter I’d say he’d be like Bowen and a high flight risk at the last minute. He never showed ND he wanted to be here. Hell I can try to as hard as I want for someone to date me, but I’d they’re not interested, “trying harder” is not going to work.

Tyler James reporting a ND commit visiting L'ville for the game. Anyone know who that is?

My favorite part of your act is when you just make stuff up out of thin air. You have no idea how hard they did or didn't pursue Scott.
That’s not what the Beat writers were saying as he was fading on ND.

Now it’s that he isn’t a 5 star. Pravda has nothing on some of these guys. Scott went from #1 defensive target (which was and is a fact), a must get (which was previously stated by all beat writers), Local 5 Star (still a fact) to now over rated and a project that was never going to commit no matter what Washington did or didn’t do!

I’m and nd fan and I visited nc state for their game vs nd and I visited duke for their gsme vs nd…. My point, this wasn’t worded as an official or he’s being hosted, he could be visiting Louisville going to the game in nd gear

Tae Johnson is the word.

(Good thing O’Leary is such a great recruiter that we have a stocked safety room and could absorb the loss.)
I think he is coming to see ND.
Just like Blair is coming to the Louisville game, but to see ND.
If Louisville wants to pay their way, good for them.
Tae worked his butt off to get into ND.

He's visiting with his teammate who holds an offer, Jamari Pearson. Most likely nothing more than going to see ND with his friend. If a recruit chooses Louisville over ND, than they're probably not the right fit for ND to begin with.

Tae was being offered by major programs & was not academically eligible to get in to ND.

Instead of moving on, he took summer school & tougher classes & worked hard to get his GPA & testing up to get into ND.

I will be shocked if he doesn’t sign with ND.

We were favored for him but backed off. The staff backed off the Chicago market and Scott and then tried to back track but it was too late. Just a mess. Learning curves.

The UM / ND recruiting universe is so much bigger than that - includes recruits that were not offered because recruits were already strong with UM. It’s a big issue.
Name them.

Among Michigan's top 10 '24 recruits, here are the guys we haven't offered:
RB Jordan Marshall (Composite 75)
OT Blake Frazier (Composite 166)
TE Hogan Hansen (Composite 213)
ATH Jaden Smith (Composite 269)
EDGE Mason Curtis (Composite 279)
WR I'Marion Stewart (Composite 313)

Which of these guys were we scared off from offering?

It would really suck if it ended up like Isaiah McKenzie.

I’m not coming to his aid bc he’s a lush, but didn’t IB basically call out Al Washington on that? Either way, it seems to me that ND was too much work for Scott and he desired the easier academic path. ND people need to forget about him. While I hope he has a good career, he could be a bust considering the above. Choose hard.

IB makes bold claims, and if they don’t come true, they blame somebody.
Shaun Davis said a lot of BS as if it was factual (including the strength of his relationship with Justin Scott), and when it all turned out not to be true, he and Driskell blamed it on Al Washington not doing his job.
And in typical IB fashion, when people questioned why not place blame on Freeman, they spun it right back to Al Washington.

IB will pick who they want as coaches/coordinators. If those people don’t get hired, ever who it is instantly becomes the main target of IB & will always receive all the blame.
ND’s DL has played better this year than last year, with less talent & experience, but IB won’t give credit to Washington for that.

Don’t trust a word IB says about Scott. They extremely exaggerated their relationship with Scott & talked out their butts about what was or wasn’t happening.
