Bulleit Bourbon all the way. If I have my choice, that's it every time.

Bulleit now has a 95% rye whiskey coming out, should be worth a try. I also like Crown Royal Cask 16, which is aged in cognac barrels.

When I go to the casino the play cards, I drink Jack and Cokes. Its pretty nuch the only way i drink whisley. Unless I have a 7 and 7.

Additonally, Anyone ever have Sortilege? Its a canadian whiskey blended with Maple Syrup. Its incredible. Its on the lighter side, I think its 70 proof, but I drink that with ice or dip french toast in it.

I took a tour of Bushmill's back around 1990. It was late October and I'd spent the morning tromping around hills and dales to check out ruins and ancient Celtic religious sites.

It was windy, raining and about 42 degrees. The warmth of the distillery with its copper fireplace was welcome. The Hot Toddies (multiple freebies since we were the only ones there) were welcome and yummy.

Maybe a few stiff drinks are the key to world peace ...

For those that enjoy Crown Royal, I highly recommend trying Black Velvet Reserve, if you can find it in your area. It tastes almost just like Crown, but it is WAY smoother. And it's much less expensive.

I LOVE Jameson. It's distillery is in Dublin, and I got to tour it last year.

I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a whisky tester, and sampled Jack, Johnnie Walker, and Jameson. Jameson tasted the best to me by far.

It's triple distilled to make it extremely smooth, and they use special clay tiles to keep the smoke from getting to it and causing that smokey flavor many Scottish Whiskys are known for.

It's about as Irish as it gets.

I'm not a damn bit Irish but I love Jameson. 7 or 12 year old, doesn't matter it is outstanding. As far as Bushmills being protestant whiskey where does that belief come from? CAn jmurph or someone explain that to me? Thanx!

Bushmills is not too far from me and to be honest, it's a black hole ( a VERY protestant place ) Though I would disagree about Northern Ireland being a protestant majority, It was for a long time, but the fact that the DUP and Sinn Fein ( God bless Sinn Fein ) are fighting to be the biggest party in the north would suggest its a close call......I know who I hope wins........hahahahaha

Well, just to stretch things out a bit, if you are in the mood to get Irish creme liqueur with your coffee, get Carolans instead of Bailey's. Tastes exactly the same, but Carolans is much less pricey.

Carolans is made with part cream, part vegetable shortening. Baileys is 100% fresh cream. That's why Carolans leaves a film in your mouth/throat. The more you know.....

I agree 100% Redbreast is by far the best whiskey that I have ever had, my second favorite was Powers.

Powers is a little tamer, not as aged, but its good. I ordered Redbreast at a bar once with a brand new bartender, I asked "do you have Redbreast?" she misunderstood, and it almost caused me a problem until the manager figured out that I was talking bout whiskey and not her chest. Ahhh the bad old days.

Just had to check back in. Got busy drinking whiskey last night, and never made it back.

Just to carry on the discussion about one of my favorite subjects. I bought a good buddy of mine a bottle of The Glenlivet 18 year old for his birthday, as he was always talking about how he wasn't much of a scotch drinker. He admitted, however, after tasting that, that it wouldn't take much for him to get used to liking it. But, he sampled some RedBreast Irish at a party, and he just raved about it. So, I went and bought a bottle. I don't know, I am just not much into irish whiskey for some reason. I don't dislike it, but I can hardly tell the difference between it and a good bourbon. To me, it's not distinctive as a separate "thing" like scotch is to bourbon is to canadians, etc. Anyway, did some research and man, the RedBreast got rave reviews everywhere. So, I've got a bottle of that on my bar with one drink out of it in case: a) I develop a taste for it, or b) someone comes over who likes it. Now, the other day we're in the liquor store after lunch, and my buddy discovers that they now have a RedBreast 15 year old that is 92 proof (the other stuff is 12 years old and 80 proof). He is singing the praises of the 15 year old, and says it is well worth the extra 25 bucks. So, now I have to go get a bottle of that. (My bar here at the house is, seriously, better stocked than most commercial bars. It's just one of my hobbies. The emphasis, of course, is on whiskeys.)

When I was in the tavern business in a previous life, I was always looking for the promotional items from the beer and liquor wholesalers. One time the liquor guy brought in this really cool Jameson Irish Whiskey jacket. If I bought a case of the stuff, I got the jacket. So, of course, being the smart business man that I was, I did. Problem was, NOBODY who came in to our place drank Irish whiskey. So, my dad and I ended up drinking the whole case. Was a damned expensive jacket.

I keep seeing Powers Irish mentioned favorably. I had that at a Christmas party this year, and thought it was some of the most godawful rotgut stuff I had had in awhile. Didn't surprise me to find it on the bottom shelf at the liquor store. (No offense, Powers fans, I just thought it was pretty raw).

Wild Turkey makes a single barrel called "Rare Breed." It's really smooth, but extremely strong (and deceptive) Watch the back of your head if you drink any of this, cause it'll sneak up on you.

Oh, Neutered, you are in good company (I guess.) Keith Richards' staple for the past few years has been vodka and, not orange juice, but Sunkist Orange Soda. And look at how good he looks lately! I agree that it really doesn't matter taste-wise how good quality the liquor is if you are going to mix it. Why anybody would mix a finely crafted liquor with anything never made sense to me. But, I always heard, and it has been my experience, that although a screwdriver made with Skol vodka and Absolut might taste the same, the difference will be clear in the morning because the cheap stuff is not purified nearly as much as the better stuff, so you get a much worse hangover.

But, I digress. This thread is about whiskey which, if I have not made it clear, is one of my great loves in life. I really love whiskey.

Another single malt I'd recommend to the whiskey drinkers is Singleton 12yr, if you can find it. It is a blend made for the US market only, is affordable, and a good starting point into the single malt scotch world. I work for the distributor of quite a few of the mentioned products, so I've had many a free tasting!

Odd. I mostly mix it with Sunkist. The only hangover I have ever had was from wine. I think you and the BigIf (if you aren't the same guy) should get together. So should Dre and Ndfan4Life. (Artists)

My current best friend (much older than me...), who coincidentally was born in South Bend, sold liquor for a long time. Friggen fireman had to scrape him off the street two days ago. He is doing well. I just checked on him.

I got sidetracked the other night as well. I went to pour a glass of whiskey and, well, let's just say I never made it back to the computer. I put some Robert Cray on the juke box in my bar and just chilled out for a while. Then Stevie Ray Vaughn came on and that was it. My "night cap" turned in to many, many more.

Anyhow, I have enjoyed this thread a lot. I am with Nanker - I am just not a huge fan of Irish whiskey. I am not knowledgeable enough to say why, but I just have not been impressed with too many Irish brands. Jameson is alright, but it doesn't float my boat too much. But that is the great thing - everyone has a different palate and you can like different things.

My "everyday" choice (and no, I don't drink everyday - it is just a term for my regular drink on regular days) - would be Makers Mark. Flying Alamo mentioned Eagle Rare. This one is great too. Price is great and it is really tasty. As I said before, Michter's is my new favorite.

Now, if we talk about Scotch, for me it begins and ends with Glenrothes. My absolute favorite. I have the 1994 which is good, but I also recently purchased the 1985. Incredible!

I haven't been to this event, but I have been to a similar one in LA. Lots of fun and you learn a TON about whiskey. Check out the "whiskey list" to see who will be showing. Looks like a great time. But, remember, arrange for transportation before hand!

Hey, this Chicago whiskey fest sounds like a good idea. Maybe since my wife won't let my drive my motorhome down the bourbon trail in Kentucky stopping at all the distillerys, I could get a bunch of whiskey lovers from here to pile in there and go to that. Should be quite the challenge driving that thing back through the Chicago traffic after the event. I'll have to get my "DAMM" membership renewed (Drunks Against Mad Mothers).

Is that an Irish Rickey? Never tried it, but it does sound good. I recently tried Jameson and Ginger which I would never have thought of, but that was actually pretty good too. Although, I'm more a fan of neat or just a touch of spring water.

I haven't heard anyone mention Pendleton on here. That's a good Canadian.
