Where does Louisville 2023 rank in embarrassing losses?

The way this team quit in the 4th quarter was beyond demoralizing.

In encapsulates a team that is ready to quit on the season.

Freeman is fortunate he was bailed out by his QB last week, or they'd be staring down a 4-4 record after next week.

And each game goes back to horrid preparation and game management, from him and from Parker.

I'm watching USC get burned by Arizona at home right now and I have zero faith that ND can replicate that level of effort and competence.

Watching the game, it was hella embarassing.

To a casual - we'll have lost a road game to a Top 20 louisville team that ends the season 9/3 or 10/2.

Absolute disaster from start to finish. It’s worse than Marshall and Stanford. Completely demolished. I’ll go Michigan 2019 and Miami 2018 as worse than this

It wasn't worse than those two.

Embarrassing? Kinda, but more so than embarrassing, it was dejecting.

This is a game that has my confidence in Freeman completely shaken.

At this point, they'll need to beat USC next week in order for my confidence to be restored.

Sorry maybe embarrassing isn't the right word. Crazy Balki said it best - dejecting. This program doesn't feel "right." The coaching staff isn't "right." The players don't really seem to be in at this point- just look at the careless penalties

Embarrassing losses off the top of my head:
-Tulsa
-S Florida
-Stanford 2022
-Marshall
-Navy three times.
-Georgia Tech 33-0 in 2006.
-Northwestern twice.
-ASU dropping 50 on us
-Oregon St in Fiesta Bowl
-Bama 2012
-LSU 2006 Sugar Bowl smackdown
-2004 Purdue smacked us by 40.
-2003 Michigan smoked us like 35-0.

Tonight doesn't even rank as a top painful loss.

It was just a loss on the road to a top 25 team in the middle of a brutal stretch of games.

This isn't that bad of a loss, but it's the game where I've more or less turned on Freeman. Enough with the talk about night games, tough games, etc. The game should not have been close.

I don't think that was very embarrassing at all. The team got beat on the road by an undefeated top 25 team. Big deal... it's college football, teams lose games. There is nothing "embarrassing" about this kind of loss.

Yes, it sucks that our offense is a total train wreck after we all assumed it was going to be well oiled machine based on early season production. If they don't get it right, Clemson and USC are guaranteed Ls. But this isn't the kind of loss anyone gives a shit about after the next 14 days.

IDK that I've turned on Freeman but I've given up on Parker. Three games in a row the other team has loaded the box to stop up our middle and pressure Hartman and, while I grant Ohio State has the athletes, we did nothing against Duke or Louisville to playcall around that. The offense bogs down, then we get behind and it just puts too much pressure on the defense. Tonight it caught up to us.

Agreed. Because of what Georgia Tech just did, this is not even the upset people will be talking about this week.

By ESPN this is a top 25 team but they aren’t that good.

2003 at Syracuse was pretty bad.

They were ranked so I wouldn’t put it anywhere near Marshall and Stanford. The disappointing part is the lack of effort from players and coaches.

I don't rate it in the most embarrassing losses at all. I rate it in the worst coaching losses, but Louisville is actually pretty good and as far as I see well coached. Given this, I rate it in the most depressing losses list as it sounds the Death Knell for a whole season, and maybe (since we're stuck with this staff for a while) several years.

Embarrassing losses to me are either:

1. losses to teams that have a huge talent deficit ( E.g. Marshall, Tulsa, USF, Navy etc.) or

2. absolute doors-blown-off curbstompings by teams without a talent deficit like Bama 2012 or the Hard Rock Miami game.

It’s respectable to lose on the road at night to an undefeated, top 25 power 5 team. The spread was only 6.5 so the talent levels were not totally disparate.

But that said, the manner in which this game went down is very disheartening because it casts doubt on the entire operation.

Yeah ND was tired - emotionally, psychologically, and physically. But that isn’t an excuse for the preparation. Besides Love and Faison, the offense did nothing well. It looked slow, weak, boring, and outdated. They couldn’t get a yard on 3rd and 1 to save their lives. Parker has gotta get demoted.
