there was no 1 issue today. there was not one reason, it wasn't even several, it was the combination and circumstance.

personal fouls
execution

that's it. defense played well, but thought poorly. weren't missing tackles, weren't leaving guys wide open. just giving them yards on penalties.

offense didn't DO anything. they ALMOST did a lot, but until Rees came in they did NOTHING, and even when they had chances to make it close they didn't score (kicker included).

There were some earlier comments about this in another thread. I am all for him getting upset at personal fouls and fumbles-- however he lost it on TJ for running a bad or wrong route (or not looking for the ball). I think he stepped over the line...and that is IMO

I have no problem with him yelling at TJ there, but he was even yelling after Cierre broke a big run, and then when Tommy passed to Floyd for a TD. Thats what my problem with it is.

Yea I figured it had to have been brought up, but there is like 6 million threads going! Did anyone else see a wide open MF on that play TJ took all the heat for?

Crist supporters are in denial at this point. easy to win a job in practice playing your own team everyday when no one is allowed to hit you... v. playing a team you've never seen with the season on the line.

Kelly looked like a nut job a few times today. Sorry Brian, but I don't care how bad it is going, you have to be atleast reasonable. I even saw him screaming at another coach.

He will LOSE recruits and his own players doing this stuff. You have to pick your places for the screaming.

People can say Lou yelled back in the day, but I NEVER saw Lou even close to Kelly today. Plus, kids today do not take well to that screaming. He needs to take a chill pill.

What scares me the most, is our offense only looks good with Floyd is a big factor... what happens next year....

I had them going 4-1 in Sept with a loss to MSU.. now i believe you gotta win out this month to have a shot at a BCS game

Money to be won

Money to be won

Great move Kelly, Take a quarterback who won four games, three vs legitimate competition, and put him on the bench behind a guy who's best accomplishment was keeping Stanford close in the second half. Thankfully i won significant money betting USF knowing Crist would be the starter. Next week, should Rees get the start he deserves, load up on the Irish

Notre Dame is not good enough to overcome all the turnovers, penalties, and dropped passes

Defense is good, not great

Cierre Wood is the real deal

Tommy Rees is the future

Except for Floyd, our WR's are very inconsistent

Special teams are horrible

Maybe John Goodman should return punts again

Hopefully we can let all the BS threads die down and refocus on the season there is no need to start new threads about every thought you have.
All great points- here's a few from my side-Mayock really likes Notre Dame. He's fair and honest and seems to want this program to get turned around for his gig. I like his work. Mayock is a fan. Now the right guys will play certain positions. Kelly is still a great coach and he's trying to do this with players that he probably wouldnt have recruited for certain positions. These players must be able to stand up to the cauldron of Notre Dame football (this team plays a bowl game every week). I agree with Jason about the 'D' but think it could have been a 35-16 game if the 1st game jitters dont hit the wrong players. Everyone knows I thought they'd lose this game for the very reasons I just stated and now my 9-3 is not looking too good. I'll stick with my feelings on Mich-I think they win this game. I said all along you cant think that a guy who won his last 4 games the season before is not the QB. When you play at Notre Dame you better get ready for the big stage-and next week is a big stage.

I agree Tommy is now the QB but that is the stupidest argument. See USC where he directly caused 4 TO's and played like absolute ****. Or how about him throwing more picks in 5 starts.

Jason I respectfully disagree with your point,

Anyone who watched today's game could see that Tommy was by far more accurate...

I stated in a post before, there was a 3rd and 5 where Crist missed Floyd, flat out missed him.

Tommy makes that throw, and it results in a 1st down, game outcome changes..

I won't declare that Rees beats Crist overall, but the success is starting to become obvious

Folks,
I have been over to other boards tonight and there are not many people who looked well at Kelly's sideline tirades tonight. He was simply out of control at points. Even Mayock was commenting about this.

I am telling all you folks saying that these kids need to suck it up. Parents will NOT look well on this if their kids are being recruited by ND. I am sorry, but Kelly looked much better in the second half of 2010 when he toned it down some.

He looked absolutely STUPID a couple times with his screaming and contorted faces. He was on the verge of a flipping heart attack. I guarantee that other coaches will use these tirades against him in recruiting.

Yelling a few times is one thing, but his antics are over the top. Fix it Brian!!!

Tommy looked genuinely into the game and excited for Dayne before the game started. When Dayne got pulled, he moped around on the sidelines like a kid who just had his lunch money stolen.

One kid has 'it', one kid's a true team player. The other isn't. It doesn't need to be sugarcoated anymore.

Dayne had 7 completions in a half, 2 to Floyd. Rees had 24 completions, 10 to Floyd. To simplify it (far too much), we had ZERO points in the first half with Dayne, and 20 in the 2nd with Tommy. I want to like Dayne, I just have no confidence in his ability to lead the offense.

I guess I should have worded my post better. No doubt Tommy played better and I like his composer a lot better than dayne but all the crist bashers who are putting all the blame on crist and saying he did horrible are just rediculous... He played OK and had to deal with a USF that had a ton of momentum (which was created by something dayne had no control over). While Tommy didn't. Idk I just don't agree with how everyone is portraying crist's performance as horrible... And honestly I've never even been a crist lover

what we learned we are not a top 25 team agian.

Disagree. We couldn't have looked any worse out there, and yet we still lost by only 3 to the Big East favorite. If we don't have the 5 turnovers (I know people will say "oh the IF game" or "but we did, didn't we!" but we only average 1.8 turnovers per game last year) then this game is out of reach by halftime. There's no question who the better team was. We beat ourselves. The Bulls did nothing to win this game but sit by and have it land in their laps. We could beat, and will beat, multiple top 25 teams this year and I think if we put things together we are a top-10 team. Too much talent on both sides of the ball for this game to be the norm.

Michigan better watch out, because one good thing that came out of this game is that no one in the country has seen a glimpse of what we possess. We will blindside the Wolverines.

You are right he is going to read your post and stop yellig at people.

Getting yelled at is a part of playing football. My HS coach chewed you out if you were injured. It is the way it works. if you noticed he chewed out the players who should know better (Crist, TJ, Riddick, etc), all reaturning starters who shouldn't make stupid mistakes. I would be more worried if he was chewing out a freshman in his first game.

I view it likes this, I am a manager at work and if one of my recent hires make a mistake I patiently explain what they did wrong and tell them how to fix it. If one of my veteran employees makes the same mistake, I give them a good old fashion chewing out. He has to know when to push and when to pull and as of right now I see no reason to believe that he doesn't know what he is doing.

I agree, but I could say that instead of Tommy throwing the 2nd pick, Dayne would of hit the open Eifert on the up route;)

All I want for this team to win. As sad as Dayne's situation is. Tommy might be for the best

Tell that to Bobby Knight....

Kelly had GOOD reason to be pissed

You lose by 3 and you have 3 TO's IN THE RED ZONE???

We spotted them a TD (Jonas)

WTF do you expect when you've had so much time to prepare, and everything goes straight to hell?

BK was pissed for a reason

PKT,
Getting yelled at is one thing. I played for a screamer. But, Kelly takes it to another level. He looks like a lunatic out there. Even the commentators are talking about it. Do you think some parent is lookign at that and excited to send their child to him??

Hey ND in FL,
Where is Bobby Knight today??? Yeah, that's right. Today is much different than 20 years ago. Go see how kids respond to the knight type treatment these days. Tell me another successful football or basketball coach that you see going all berzerk like Kelly did tonight???

As far as I'm concerned Kelly had every right to vent and coach hard-if you cant factor it and correct it you do not need to be on the field. It is that simple. Notre Dame does not get the luxury of opening up with UT Chatt/Fla Atlantic/ or Richmond. That was not quaility football by some players and the mistakes that hurt were not only crippling but mental/not attentive to detail mistakes. I hate to say this but my fear was playing a team in the first game with a Holtz coaching the team. They made no mental/attention to detail mistakes and IMO won the game because they played cleaner football. Only a blind man could not see Notre Dame was the more talented group.
