I went in detail here somewhere about it... obviously mex (I guess Baja/Cali Mex) is one of my favorite foods so I'm going all out to find anything in El Paso that is decent. Doesn't have to be Baja styled, just good... and yeah, shockingly it's been pretty bad. My wife's family has members from Texas (Austin, Dallas), from Cali and from New Mexico... all three factions of her family have given up on El Paso Mexican declaring it awful. I have to find at least one spot though.... so my search shall continue.

That's surprising to me. Then again, being so far from the coast and where the good stuff grows, maybe it shouldn't be.

Had a friend in college from El Paso... He said something along these lines, "El Paso has "ok" mexican food, but it's also the birthplace of Tex-Mex and, more importantly, the birthplace of "bad tex-mex".

He did mention several great places, don't know the names, but remember that they were hole-in-the-wall taquerias.

At first, knowing what her family has told me over the years (I've tried to get them to take me places while visiting and they refuse, they all hate the Mexican out there and they're all part Mexican) I thought to myself, "Pretty sure El Pollo Loco and Del Taco out there, El Pollo Loco is pretty authentic and Del Taco, is at least something I grew up with... that will get me by well enough I guess"

I found out about a month ago that El Pollo Loco is in fact NOT in El Paso, and the local Del Tacos closed up shop about a year ago.........

As a general rule for those in the mid west or back east who visit the southwest looking for 'that great mex i hear about from guys like acamp"... this is a pretty standard rule... there are great legit restaurants but by and large, the best Mexican food comes from teh hole in the wall taco shops, Mexican markets and taquerias...

to the first point, yeah El Paso feels like a really bad take on Tex Mex... which I'm not a huge fan or to begin with.

I don't understand the consternation over glove color IRT to holding. Blue or gold gloves would stand out just as much against the orange of Clemson, no? Unless we wear orange gloves I don't see how the color ofe the glove means we're going to get hosed every call.

I'm thinking we should go all camo. Think of the advantages. Our WR's could run right past the CB's. Clemson's O would never see the blitz coming.

ACamp, take your Tex/Mex/Cali/ElPaso/NewMexico mexican food to the food thread. It has no business here with green gloves escalating holding calls.

Legit, maybe my new fave place to get tacos (1 block away from my parish) is in an abandoned car wash.

Also, the best Mexican food is in the houses. Still gotta get myself adopted in to a loving Mexican family with a great pozole recipe

Oh man, that patty melt.

hopefully UA doesn't make that into a uniform, or I might drown my TV with saliva

Real question, do the OL even wear those gloves in games? You know, because those in the reveal are receiver gloves....

How do baseball catchers painting their fingernails prevent them from getting called for holding in a football game?

I went so far down his rabbit-hole I didn't even consider that...lol

Additionally, does this mean that Sam will need to paint his hands why to blend in with the white jerseys!? - call Quinn and Co, quickly!

Have you ever tried holding anything, other than a baseball, with a catcher's mitt?

With or without painted nails or taped fingers..

RackEm paints his fingernails...and has also been repeatedly gang raped in prison.

I'd rather get called for offensive holding.

El Paso has crap Mexican food? That's pretty crazy to me.

My buddy lives in EP and married a Mexican girl from Juarez. She was a trainer at the GM plant across the border. I'm no expert, but her, and her family say EP Mexican food is about as close to authentic Mexican as you're going to get in the states. I've ate at a few different restaurants that they took me to, and I agree (comparing it when I've ate Mexican in Mexico).

If they are from Juarez I guess that's fair... but the regional differences in Mexican food in Mexico is every bit as varied as it is here so trying to just pin point "as close to authentic Mexican as you're going to get" really depends on the starting reference point. What you get in Tijuana, on down to Jalisco is nothing like El Paso... but my understanding is it's very much in line with Chihuahua/Juarez.

The most important thing to note is that it sucks.

Breaded, deep fried fingers with a sweet tartar sauce and a spicy roasted banana pepper-onions escabeche.

Indiana in DA HOUSE!!! lol I pretty much like deep fried fish in my po boys... or maybe with a mojarra frita

Also of note,... You know what Mexican spots serve with your dinner plates in El Paso as a general rule instead of rice and beans?? An American style baked potato...

Hell man, it even said baja tacos on the google search. Everything was fried, but at least I chose one without a mountain of chopped iceberg. Plus it has some damn limes

Ha, i searched for my local fish taco spot on google and your exact picture came up... no bs lol...

battered is fine man, I just prefer fresh grilled style.

I'm just giving YJ goofy grief too... If your friends have a spot in town they swear by I'd be grateful... I'm a desperate man.
