Was gifted to me by a coworker. Have always wanted to try.

What did you think of it?

I found it really interesting to try but not very good. Especially since New Glarus makes some really good beers. I make it to Wisconsin every other year or so and I always seek out their beers and 3 Floyds.

ETA: part of my initial response is because it was very talked up and it by no means matched the "hype".

So rarely do I try Cream ales (tasted more like a weak saison to me). Thought it was good but agree with you, didnt live up to the hype. Glad I didnt get a 12 pk of SC. Have some Naked, Two Ladies and Moon Man. Looking forward to trying them all.

Speaking of looking forward to trying...Clown Shoes Trillionaire. English Barleywine aged in Scotch barrels. REALLY good.

Sadly Clown Shoes no longer comes to AZ.

Moon Man is very good from New Glarus. I have also enjoyed Scream IIPA and Dancing Man. Their sours and fruit beers are also really good.

First up the bottle labeled #1
N: Malt, white fruit (peaches), honey, and oak.
P: Honeyed peaches and nectarines. Some slight oak, and malt. Hints of nutmeg and brown sugar.
F: peaches and oak linger with a touch of smoke.

My first guess is Cragganmore, middle aged (15-20 years), but it could also be a few other Speyside distilleries as well.

Finishing off this sample. Honey and roasted peanuts. Definitely honey covered white fruit and honey roasted nuts. I would say a mid aged Cragganmore or an older Balblair. Hints of wood smoke.

#5
N: Farmy. Lots of dry and wet hay. Lemon, vanilla custard and malt. Some slight wood smoke.
P: Wood smoke is much more noticeable on the palate. Lemon, hay and vanilla are there as well and some oakiness. Peat as well.
F: Peat, wood smoke and vanilla linger. The hay just won't go away.

I really want to say that this is a young Bowmore or a highly peated highland whisky.

Finishing this sample. Wood smoke, hay, lemon and farm tardy notes. Slightly salty. Reminds me of a peated Benriach, or a lighter Islay such as Bowmore or Kilchoman.

ETA: peatiness seams to be growing. Kind of reminds me of a 10-12yo Bowmore.

Killing another old sample. Bowmore 1972 30yo.

Some wood smoke. Grilled fruits. Slight vitamin taste. Saltiness and lots of tropical fruits. Tastes much better than it sounds. Oak slowly builds on the finish (and a little coconut).

Ended the night with some H.S. friends with some George T Stagg, William Larue Weller and the FOCM Lagavulin 1995 12yo.

Had some margaritas this afternoon... May have overdone it a bit tho... (It happens I suppose)

Just hit up some detox water my wife and I made two days ago,... Cucumber, mint, blueberry, strawberry, lemon, lime... It's unreal. Set me straight right off.

Dogfish Head 120 IPA. Wow. Not really a good wow either. That shit tastes like nail polish remover. Easily the worst dollar an ounce beer I've ever had.

I've never had a dogfish head beer I felt was worth the price... Not that some aren't quite enjoyable,... But it's an obscenely overpriced beer and none of their beers are THAT good... Some are poor.

Truth. I had it once, and I will probably not buy it again. I have heard that if it ages for a few years it does get better, though it is unlikely that I would spend the money on it to test that theory.

Sample labeled #2. By the look of it it is definitely sherried.

N: Definitely sherried. Lots of almonds, walnuts, raisins and figs.
P: Massive sherry, almonds, walnuts, raisins, figs, dates, oranges, and cinnamon. A little oakiness (pencil shavings) and a slight breadiness.
F: Raisins and oranges linger along with the pencil shavings.

A very nice sherry dominated whisky. Reminds me of a sherried Glendronach (15 or 18yo), or Glenfarclas (15 or 21yo).

Finishing this sample off. Really reminds me of Glenfarclas (15, 17 or 21yo). Lots of sherry (walnuts, pecans, figs, oranges, etc) and some nice oakiness (pencil shavings, varnished oak, and cinnamon).

#6 Sherried again.
N: Big time sherry. Lots of nuts, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. A little balsamic vinegar.
P: Candied walnuts, raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon. A hint of rubber.
F: walnuts, raisins and a touch of rubber linger. A hint of cherry as well.

Tastes like an older sherried speysider such as Macallan 18 or Glenfarclas 21yo.

Finishing off this sample. Sherry really drowns out everything else. Raisins, brown sugar, and nuts.

Might be something that you would enjoy. It is an IPA brewed with Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo and Citra Hops. One of my favorite brews from Karl Strauss.

Thanks, I'll look for it bud,... You ever get Mosaic?

Just had some beers at Hart Brewing Company. And I talked to John C. Reilly. Haha, for real! That was awesome.

Thoughts?

A very good Session IPA. Probably one of my favorite Session IPAs (though to be fair, I generally don't like session IPAs). Something I would definitely drink again, but not something that I will search out when visiting.

Speaking of Session IPAs, Golden Road Wolf Pup Session IPA.

I liked Wolf Pup a lot... I'm all about sessions... I like to drink, don't like to get plastered.

Drinking 11.5 Plato Session

Almanac Hoppy Sour El Dorado hops. Lots of sour and bitter fruit (grapefruit, lemon, melon, peach, orange, etc). Almost no sweetness. Very goo but I think that I preferred Tropical Platypus.
