Yep, the coffee stout. Did you get more near you? No way anyone could enjoy this beer. Smelled like a garbage disposal after sending a 3 day old salad through. And yes I did taste it actually tasted better than it smelled...tasted like a 2 day old salad mixed with sour cherries.

Acamp...I am up to date on all my shots!

Haha, that description of the taste was awesome. I remember now that the coffee also had some bottles infected and GI was giving refunds but it's too late. And no I haven't seen or heard about any more being around here. Just out of curiousity what was the bottle date and time?

Are you guys saying that all of their stouts have a high chance of being infected? Or just the coffee stout?

It's just the coffee and Barleywine and they're not all infected so it's a crap shoot. I thought I read that more Barleywine were infected than coffee but I couldn't give you a source.

Oct 12, 2015 was the bottle date. Also, this was a bottle of the Brand stout, not Coffee, sorry.

I hit the jackpot at the local HEB. I was just about to walk away from the cooler when I saw the last bottle of Dogfish Head 120 minute staring right in front of me.

Wait. Your brand stout was infected?

Yep, regular BA stout. Check out this thread on Beer Advocate, seems as though this is a relatively new development:Possible infected 2015 Regular BCBS | Community | BeerAdvocate

I know Jackalope said they stopped taking calls on refunds in February but I'm thinking that was for the Coffee and Barleywine. Maybe I'll have some luck trying to get a refund for the regular. I've already tweeted GI and sent an email, call is next.

Also saw a thread on Beer Advocate about possibly infected Proprietor.

Well this is a terrible development. What the hell is going on at that place. Beer making 101 is cleaning and sanitizing. Damn it. I've got three Barleywine, two stout, and a coffee stout and they could all be shit. Thanks for the info ND in Mich.

I'm gonna be pretty peeved if mine is infected. I guess this means that I should probably consider opening my bottle somewhat soon.

Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA

Hops, resin, and citrus on the nose. Nice bitter flavor with some citrus splashed in. Great balance. Very happy with this and it goes pretty well with my homemade jambalaya

Had to know so I opened my second bottle of BCBS and...infected. So disheartened as I was looking forward to both bottles, now not sure if I'll buy another Bourbon County.

Caol Ila 10 yo.

Sorry, that sucks.

Depending on how they are infected, I can possibly understand how it happened (Deschutes a few years ago had a problem with Brettanomyces infecting some aged beers that weren't supposed to have it), after all Brett is a wild yeast and will get into things. My biggest issue with isn't that it happened, but what it says about GI. There are really two options

1. They have almost no quality control and because of that they were completely ignorant of it.
or
2. They noticed it during quality control but decided to go ahead with it anyways hoping no one would notice, or that not that many bottles were infected.

ETA: I still have one more bottle of it but since the other one I had wasn't infected, I am hoping that this one isn't.

Thanks boys.

PKT, both are scary options. I had a stout and BW when they first released and both were phenomenal. As I said previously, more brand stout was released in MI a few weeks ago and when I got the beermenu message, was a little skeptical but figured I would give it a shot (even asked the guy at my store about infections).

Hope your guys' beers are OK.

I completely agree that both options are scary. Hopefully this helps them to clean up their act.

Here is a story about Deschutes (it happened twice with them, though with different beers) and what they eventually did to fix the issue going forward.

Deschutes Brewing Infection Issues - Beer Street Journal

Going forward, we have purchased a flash pasteurizer and all beer from barrels is now pasteurized (killing the brettanomyces) before it is blended with beer from tanks (that is not pasteurized). Then the final blend is bottle conditioned so all beer is alive when you get it. 2010 The Abyss was treated this way.
