It has a very limited taste at first but now it is presenting very well. Butterscotch, light oak, almost a butter feel. Smooth. The honeysuckle is fantastic. Probably because I OD'd on honeysuckle as a kid. Haha.

Very good. I bought a bottle when it first distributed here a few years ago but I haven't bought one since. Your description makes me want to buy another bottle.

Duncan Taylor Old Pulteney 1989 18yo. A great summer whiskey. Lots of maritime notes (some salty notes, and the smell of the ocean), vanilla, butterscotch, a touch of creme brulee, a touch of lemon custard and peach cobbler. I really enjoy the salty notes and they really linger on the tongue.

I am going to be very sad when this bottle is gone.

Well this going on my list for sure. Question... do you stockpile or buy a bottle and then finish it?

I tend to buy a bottle and finish it before trying something else.

It's not bad for a secondary wheat 6-8 yo. Reasonably priced. I paid $25 for 1 liter. Tried to find the white label Evan Williams but it was not in stock.....

This bottle is probably impossible to find. I bought it back in 2008. At one point my stash hit over 150 bottles (almost all open besides back-up bottles and bottles put away for special occasions). I probably have about 40-50 bottles open right now as Scotch prices have gone through the roof. I still love to sample a couple of different whiskies in a session.

I really like the Old Pulteney 12yo (I can get it here for about $40 but I have seen it $35-50 depending on the state). To me it is a great summer whisky (though here in AZ I can drink it about 8 months out of the year).

Cragganmore 21yo.
N: Vanilla with oak and pencil shavings.
P: Starts with a little peaches in vanilla yogurt but the oak comes on strong and soon washes it away.
F: Dry with some vanilla bean but mostly oak and pencil shavings. A touch of brown sugar and allspice as well.

Founders Dark Penance Imperial Black IPA

Thoughts?

I know you haven't been impressed with Founders IPAs but have you ever had Double Trouble? I think this one compares with other DIPAs out there, B+/A- for me.

Dark Penance was a solid B for me. Also a touch expensive at $12 or a 4 pack.

My favorite Founders IPA was the Harvest. Double Trouble would be second for me. I had Harvest as B+ and Double Trouble as a B. Then again I am sucker or fresh hops.

When Odell Mountain Standard hits here I might grab a bottle of it and a bottle of Dark Penance to try against each other.

Kilkerran WIP 5 Bourbon Wood. A very nice scotch at a young age (probably around 8-10 years old). Some nice vegetal peat notes (almost farmyardy), some pear, malt, brine and smoke (like leaves on fire).

Can't argue with any of that. Being in MI, I probably pay a little less for Founders so that may affect my ratings.

oh yeah, Knee Deep Simtra for me. Finally found a fresh bottle around here. So many have had a bottle date of 7/28/2014. Not good for an IPA!

AD Rattray Bowmore 1991 17yo sherry cask.

I love this whisky.
N: Big time sherry. Raisins, smoke, a touch of cocoa, walnuts and some slight tar, tobacco and soy sauce. A little leather and balsamic vinegar.
P: Raisins, smoke, brine, orange covered in chocolate, with candied walnuts. Tobacco and old leather (or what I think old leather would taste like).
F: Starts on sherry, smoke and raisins. grilled oranges covered in chocolate, and some aged balsamic vinegar.

I love this whisky.

I rarely ever have them but when in Vegas after a long night or during a hot summer I love a good Bloody Mary... That's something that has to be made right though, few things worse than a bad Bloody Mary...

I'm going with cheap drinkin' beer today. It's gonna be a long one. I think I'll alternate PBR and 'Gansett tall boys.

I had a few heavy IPAs last night and all I have is more IPAs... I still struggle with issues pertaining to my illness from a couple years ago if I drink a bunch of super hopped beers so I'm prob just gonna sip on one per game... Good enough for me.

Ugh, I generally dislike pumpkin beers. My favorite part about this time of year is that it is time to pick hops (in North America) so we starting getting Fresh hop beers and Wet Hop beers

Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest Wet Hop IPA
Founders Harvest (the only Founders IPA that I enjoy)
Deschutes Hop Trip
Port Brewing High Tide
Deschutes Chasin' Freshies IPA
Sierra Nevada Celebration
Lagunitas Born Yesterday Pale Ale
etc.

Catching up here...is Founders Harvest Ale out yet?
