Maximus is very good. I was wondering what happened to you, feels like you haven't posted in a while.

I had the longest, crappiest, summertime cold ever. It lasted 3-4 weeks. My human petri dish children must've brought it home for an end of school gift. Besides work I wasn't doing much. Glad to be back, thanks for missing me! And yeah, Maximus is pretty great.

I had Lost Rhino Faceplant IPA the other day. Good stuff from a local brewery in Northern VA. Good balance, went down smooth on a muggy day.

Just purchased Angel's Envy. Also got a bottle of Birddog Peach. It's quite possible I start with Angels Envy then get into the Birddog mixed in Sweet tea.
Trouble is on the horizon.

Finally got Pilney the Elder,... Pretty good, far less hops than I expected, lighter...

Dragoon IPA. Probably the best AZ beer.

Serious question, is there much competition? Some of your posts make me think that AZ is a barren wasteland for good beer (though you've gotten Stone Enjoy By plenty)

So the confusion is my fault.

AZ gets many good to great beers from other states including beers from distilleries such as Stone, Green Flash, Bear Republic, Founders, Bells, Alesmith, Bruery, Oskar Blues, Odell, Dogfish Head, etc.

AZ on the other hand does not have any great breweries of their own. SanTan is probably our best brewery currently and boasts a full line-up that is full of average beer but they have some really good specialty beers (in particular, Moon Juice, Heavy D, Fat Albert, Count Hopula, and Night of the Living Red Imperial Red). Dragoon is a local brewery in Tucson that has a great IPA, but the other offerings that I have had have just been ok. Also Dragoon doesn't bottle or can so it is only available on tap.

So the beer selection that I can get from my stores is pretty good as we get many great beers from around the country, but on the other hand our lack of great local breweries makes it somewhat of a wasteland for local brews. Hopefully that is changing as I have seen many craft breweries popping up here recently, some that I am looking forward to trying.

Wanted something light and refreshing,.... Picked up two watermelons...

Shipyard Melonhead, decent, the melon is more jolly ranchers than just melon... Doesn't hold up to its counter, Pumpkinhead.

Hell or High Watermelon,... Really freakin good, just what I was looking for...

My wife took me out for Father's day to Pep and Pastry in Tucson. If you are ever in town the food is amazing. I had the breakfast poutine, which is fries with a duck fat gravy, cheese curds and pork belly. I had a local beer Ten Fifty-Five XOXO Coffee Stout. Really low in abv (I think it is 4.7%) and rather thin. Pretty good coffee flavor almost more like drinking a cold brewed coffee then drinking a beer.

I also grabbed a Crowler* of Iron John's Riggo Red IPA. I will let everyone know how it is later after I open it.

*If you don't know what a Crowler is, here is a great description The Crowler

My crowler of Iron John's Riggo Red IPA.

Not very hoppy or bitter even though it states 85 IBU. Has some slight earthy hops, slight citrus, big caramel malt and a flavor that reminds me of red Swedish Fish.

Haven't felt the best today,... So I'm sticking to what may be my favorite drink known to Gods Earth,... Fresh squeezed lemonade.

I was fairly surprised by Hell or High Watermelon too. The guy at BevMo suggested it to me and it was perfect for this heatwave we are having.
