my honest to god thoughts were to start the year we'd be 1-3 after four games.... and ride an easy schedule to a 6-7 win season there after

at worst we'll be 2-2 and from what I saw from the O in the fourth quarter we MIGHT be able to play with purdue...

its not that bad... MSU is the second best team we will see all year and we SHOULD have beat them... we played well, Michigan should have taught us you can't turn over the ball like that... now we taught ourselves... hopefully the young guys will learn from it

I agree for the most part. The total lack of any rushing game is what makes a loss like that harder to swallow. Most teams dream about having RB talent like ND does now. And it is all wasted. 7-10 runs for no gain or loss. Sad.

Dude, you are high. Nothing in this game makes me think we can hang with Purdue. We beat Michigan because we played in a monsoon at home and Michigan is about as good as we were last year. Maybe even worse.

I know emotions are high after a game, but let's be respectful. It's incredible how many otherwise respectable members get infractions for being unnecessarily cheeky towards mods and other members.

I'm high???.... the second half we played much much better... if we open it up early or simply do not turn the ball over we have a great shot to win today... if you don't agree with that then you need a football 101 course pal

we are NOT the team we should for sure... but it's the record is better than I thought it would be... if not the play on the field... and we do in fact have four to five games we can't possibly lose this year....

The Bad:

1. O-Line Sucks- Gets pushed around, cant pick up blitzes, cant open a hole.

2. D-Line Sucks-Pushed around like little pansy girls. No penetration.

3. Lambert Sucks- Why is he still on this team? Cant cover the slant play.

4. Play calling sucks- Haywood/Weis=gone

5. Clausen cant read the field to save his life.

6. Dont get me started on Special teams.

7. Time for a new coach. With all this so-called "top talent" we have we should be at least putting up a competitive game. Go back to the NFL and get a COLLEGE football coach.

The Good:

1. Tate
2. Floyd
3. Brian Smith
4. Allen

Thats about it......sad

Only way ND wins against Purdue is if we go no huddle. Spread formations. Quick slants and out passes. They worked at the beginning of the half and then the coaches went away from it. Why change what works? Oh I know because Weis is a offensive GURU right? Please

This is the 2nd best team we will see this year.

We actually DID contain Ringer until his very last run.

The OL looked bad today.

Jimmy was a bit off, but looked good after the half.

Kamara...man, he needs to get his head sorted out a bit.

Floyd shows flashes of brilliance...and for a TRUE Freshman looks good. He's gonna be Mo Stovall Jr.

Tate...he's just freaky good.

This game was disappointing, but I am seeing improvement from year to year...as long as it continues I will be happy.

Its hard to be positive. We've been watching this trainwreck for over a year, and improvement is sloooooow.

totally agree and this hasn't been talked about yet...

he needs to sit for Floyd and Parris.... he should have brought down the first INT and where is the emotion or drive EVER????

I think I have a feeling what is going on with him and we'll prob. all get confirmation in a week or so

Please pull Kamara permanently. Quite obviously Jimmy has made some poor throwing decisions, but dood, if the ball is going to be picked off, play some defense.

After todays game, I don't even want us to play USC. I don't want to exaggerate, but it may be a 52-3 game against the Trojans.

3 turnovers, 2 in MSU territory, 2 missed field goals, other missed opportunities. guys, that is the sign of a young team who is going to make mistakes. deal with it. I agree with NDOM. it will be much better for the program to go 8-4 or so and get to a winnable bowl game, than go 10-2 and get spanked in a bcs game.

This game was dissapointing because it was winnable.

They came out slow again and the first half play calling was confusing. But they didn't execute the plays being called, so perhaps that's half the reason.

In the second half, they turned it on and had a chance to make it a game until Floyd fumbled the ball. That killed the drive, gave up likley TD, and turned into 3 points for State. But i give him credit he didn't quit the rest of the game and had a very good rest of the game.

The last drive where they were 3rd and 15 and went with two wide outs instead of the 4-WRs and empty backfield is thoroughly confusing. even though State knew what was coming, they weren't able to stop that set on that drive.

Allen's run-back at the end of the game shows me these kids don't quit on each other, nor is there a lack of chemistry. that is much better than last year.

one more thing, Clausen seems to focus on one or two options way too much, and except for designed quick slants or outs, he seems intent on throwing the jump ball 20-30 yards down field. whether that's the play calling, the other receivers not getting open, or him not knowing what the other receivers are doing and not seeing who is open i don't know. but they will not be as successful against a team with a better secondary, if they are going to have a one dimensional offense.

LOL! Ok, maybe we'll get 7, knowing USC they are going send six men about 90% of the time against our immobile QB. Floyd may catch them once going deep, or maybe Golden Tate, other than that, the game will be ugly, real ugly.

Yeah I agree with most of what is being said here. This is still a very young team that may be very frustrating to watch at times, but will be very exciting other times. This was one of the frustrating games where the players just kept shooting themselves in the foot, which was one of the big reasons that they lost.

Aside from that there where some positives.

It looks like we have found a future Number 1 in Floyd. I know someone compared him to stovall, but I think he has the potential to be even better, he seems like he could turn into a superstar.

Golden Tate is a real gamebreaker, and is turning into a very good WR. That play on 3rd down where he broke a few tackles and turned it into a 23 yard gain was great.

I even think after the first half Clausen turned it around when the play calling was switched up, he had that nice TD pass to Floyd, and also made a nice throw that would have been a TD to Rudolph if not for a great diving play by the DB.

The defense seemed to be kind of worn down, but they had some nice plays like the goal line stand to hold MSU to a FG, and the nice strip on ringer.

I mean I think that as fans we just have to accept that they are not going to be as good as some of us thought they would be this year. Im okay with that because in reality this is still a young team with learning to do and if they can win 7 or 8 games this year I think that would set them up for a very bright future.

We missed two field goals, fumbled on the 10 I think it was. (Floyd) Things like that change the outcome of the game. We were in it, surely we can't blame Weis and Haywood both for things our players do such as not hold onto the ball or miss fg's. I see no reason why we couldn't beat Purdue, things happen.

Hey, it wasn't that bad of a game. We left a lot of points on the field and our lack of depth on the D-line showed up in the fourth quarter. I know Ringer went for over 200 yards, but I think that most of that came in the fourth quarter. The D was wore out. As has been stated, this is a young team and that inexperience is going to lose you a game it shouldn't and it might win you a game you shouldn't. Today was a game it cost us a win. Who knows? Maybe the SC game will be the game we win one we shouldn't. A guy can hope.

Let's face the facts, this team is not very good. We have some flashes of brilliance, and yes, we are very young. I expect them to make some mistakes, but these kids are some of the most highly recruited players in the country. It is going to be a very long season and we could lose more then we win if we don't fix a few thing right away.

Kicking game - This to me is the most important of all. There will be alot of close games this year and this kid is going to kill us. He is horrible!! Can't we get someone off the girls soccer team to make up for this guy. We are better off just going for it when in field goal range, and you can't win the close one that way.

Jimmy Clausen - I like Jimmy, but he needs to learn how to read the field better. I am sure that everyone on this site knows who he is throwing to before he releases the ball. He has a one receiver mentality. He has a great arm with the short pass, but the jump ball is scary as hell! He has 6 INT's in three games and has killed most, NOT ALL, of our drives by himself.

Pass Rush - Do we really have one? It doesn't seem to matter how many men we send, we can not sack the damn quarterback!

O-line - If we can't run, we cant win. It is that simple.

I love watching the Irish each week and have for a long time. These last two years have been tougher then most. Everyone says that we are improving each week. Look at these areas, it is the same old thing week after week. There is no improvement in any of them. I don't expect to fix them all by next week, but they better focus on them. For now, I will just enjoy the wins when they come, because NONE of them will be easy!

Go Irish!

Mr. Tenutas Blitzing needs a lot of work. I don't know if we just don't have the players or what the deal is. The fact is we are getting almost ZERO pressure on their offense, and they are able to read it and usually run through or around it.

D linemen need to occupy blockers so that the LBs can run free. That does not appear to be happening and there is almost always a blocker waiting to pick up the blitz. We all knew that DL was going to be a bit shaky this year. We need big, disruptive DLs that require double teams -- then the blitzing will work.
