It's in that documentary I posted in the other thread. Documentaries are never wrong.

I supposed it's to differentiate between "have used cocaine." Hell, most of America's 1% has done cocaine. You can't graduate from an Ivy League school without seeing it. If you go to Miami University in Ohio, you will do cocaine. I'm exaggerating of course, but cocaine is super prevalent around wealthy circles.

I can believe the 1.4%, if it means "used in the last 30 days" or whatever. There are millions upon millions of marijuana users. Cocaine isn't that big of a number.

Yes, you do. haha

I've shown to probably 15 people (literally, I hand them a flashdrive that I pirated), and 90% say it's the best thing they've ever seen. There are classes on it at Harvard, Yale, Oxford, etc because it is so damn accurate.

Hey now - I was good with all you said until this! Watch what ya say about my school or I'll go all Bishop on ya. LOL

So if we legalize all drugs, how do we handle the importation and tariff aspect? As far as I know, cocaine and heroin don't grow well in the USA. So how do we import from countries that still outlaw drug manufacturing? Also, I can see taxation and tariffs tacking so much onto the cost that there still would be a healthy black market. And will we hear the same guilt trip about buying imported drugs versus domestic? "If you are going to get high, at least buy American."

Not to mention, if you allow Americans to produce it...do you realize how dangerous it is to produce those drugs???

We gonna allow people to just have their own meth labs blowing up on every corner?

If the U.S legalizes all drugs, I'm pretty sure South American countries will follow. That takes care of cocaine and maybe even opens up a market for coca leaf. Don't know much about heroin, but Afghanistan and some Southeast Asian countries can grow poppies and I'm sure one country would do it.

I don't know about the production costs of these other drugs to say how much taxes and tariffs will impact it.

For the last point, will we hear it yeah, but I doubt anyone will care enough to make it a deal-breaker.

I love liberty and all, but you can't legalize meth and herion. You just can't -- the effects would be disasterous.

For the harder drugs, the trick is to treat the illness not throw them in prison. That doesn't solve anything other than give private prison corporations more money.

As pertaining to your "homebrewer" of meth, that could be problematic. Mass produced quality products could be done much safer. I am thinking of the "Budweiser" of meth as compared to the homebrewer of meth. The reason meth labs blow up is because you have some cracked out dude who has not slept in 5 days cooking in a small room with no ventilation, flammable materials, and hot plates.

Mass production could be done in a safe manner by competent people if it is regulated. Not that I condone these types of drugs, but if there is a better place to manufacture and a benefactor's revenue stream is dependent on production, then it will be done safer. Of course you have to drug test those making the drugs. :) I am sure it would be no different than a typical pharmaceutical factory.

We could also import raw materials from other countries and produce here. I have little doubt that if the US legalized drugs, other countries would follow suit. We do swing a big ****ing stick around the world.

I think its been shown that where drugs are legal there is a decrease in the use of drugs compared to total population. It takes time to occur, but the Netherlands, Portugal, and other countries have shown that drug users as a percentage for population has decreased since legalization and regulation.

It already is. See oxycontin and adderall. Just as damaging and addictive too, but are 100% legal and prescribed.

Adderall is on the same level as Heroin? Not trying to be an a-hole, but there is no way that is remotely possible.

We're meaning "legalize" in a different way than a scheduled substance that's only available via prescription.

Not to mention, I highly, highly doubt that there will ever be any specific medicinal advantage to meth such that it would become something doctors prescribe their patients. That would be malpractice as best.

I think what he is getting at is there is an illegal market for prescription drugs as well. Those are two of the most illegally sold and abused "legal" and "controlled" drugs out there. Also, people in america have the highest rate of prescription drug abuse.

"Prescription drug abuse remains a significant problem in the United States.

In 2010, approximately 7.0 million persons were current users of psychotherapeutic drugs taken nonmedically (2.7 percent of the U.S. population), an estimate similar to that in 2009. This class of drugs is broadly described as those targeting the central nervous system, including drugs used to treat psychiatric disorders (NSDUH, 2010). The medications most commonly abused are:
Pain relievers - 5.1 million
Tranquilizers - 2.2 million
Stimulants - 1.1 million
Sedatives - 0.4 million
Among adolescents, prescription and over-the-counter medications account for most of the commonly abused illicit drugs by high school seniors (see chart).
Nearly 1 in 12 high school seniors reported nonmedical use of Vicodin; 1 in 20 reported abuse of OxyContin.
When asked how prescription narcotics were obtained for nonmedical use, 70% of 12th graders said they were given to them by a friend or relative (MTF 2011). The number obtaining them over the internet was negligible.
Among those who abuse prescription drugs, high rates of other risky behaviors, including abuse of other drugs and alcohol, have also been reported."

There are several studies that prescription drug abuse can be just as severe as cocaine and heroin. Addiction is an addiction. Long term abuse of Adderall can lead to paranoia, and altered psychotic states that are irreversible. I have read that it can even induce psychotic states that are indistinguishable to true schitzophrenia (according to the psychologists interviewed). So yes, I believe they are on the same level. Psychotropic drugs (drugs that alter your brain chemistry) are just as addictive and damaging as any illicit drug.

Long term abuse of acetaminophen causes severe bodily harm.

This attitude is hilariously naive or misguided.

How would they be any more disastrous than now?

You're okay with the pharmaceutical industry producing synthetic versions of heroin (oxycodone, hydromorphone etc) and giving children neurotoxic amphetamines like dextroamphetamine and a few of it's analogues but you're against the legalization of it?

lol

Some of you people need to do your research.

Methamphetamine and dextroamphetamine molecular structures are virtually identical. Meth is no different than what we give children for ADD, only its much more bioavailable.

I am also pretty sure the main ingredients of meth are in over the counter pseudoephedrine containing medicines, hence why you have to show ID to purchase them now. I think the only thing lacking is red phosphate, some household chemicals, and a hot plate......Good find.

Millions of children and adults take adderall everyday. Adderall contains dextroamphetamine seen here:

This is methamphetamine:

Notice the (lack of) differences?

While scripts (that's what we call them in the game) are a huge problem in this country, alot of people use them in the proper way. They actually have a use. There is no proper way to use meth or heroin.

Therefore, I really don't think you can compare them

Irishpat..... the last few posts show that heroin, and meth and other illicit drugs have a distinct chemical structure which are the same (or at lease extremely similar) as those used in prescription drugs. Many medicinal drugs are based off of these "natural drugs"
Morphine, Marinol, codeine, diacetylmorphine, oxycodone......or derivatives, all derived from sources classified as illegal drugs....

We as a society have decided that this one made this way is illegal, bu this one made this way is ok and can be sold for a profit legally. People use meth and heroin daily in pharmaceutically acceptable forms...

Hell.... acetominophen is so easy to make, it was a lab class in Chem 101. Is it the organic chemistry that is not making sense? Or society's views that heroin and meth are bad?

And I agree with you on that issue.

Legality aside....what use is heroin or meth? Those medicines, if taken correctly, aren't a danger.

Whens the last time you met a heroin or meth user that could manage it?

Those are two totally different substances. Adderall is an amphetamine(upper) and heroin is an opiate(huge downer). Adderall is very very similar to methamphetamine while oxycontin and oxycodone are almost identical to heroin in chemical structure, effect, LD-50, and addiction rates. So yes, they are on they same level.

LD-50,.... busting out the 50% lethal dosage rate. I like it!

I have never taken either "illegal" versions but I take meth during allergy season and when I have cold and flu like symptoms in the form of psudoephedrine and I just recently took heroin in the form of oxycontin for minor surgery.

Legally, it should not matter. If someone wants to take heroin, let them. Be free to do so. You get addicted, sucks to be you. People get addicted to oxycontin as well. What is the use in that? We decide.

I guess you are asking can someone take meth or heroin responsibly???? Like alcohol?

And then have the tax payer on the hook for all the new heroin addicts under the ACA??

Yeah, no thanks. While I understand what you're saying...it would be a trainwreck.

Just adding to the tab...I can hear the "it's a disease maaaannnnn"
