Once again, it's time to honor all of our veterans, those still with us and those who have passed away.

I've posted on here before about my father in law and his glider crashing behind German lines on D-Day. He managed to survive that and go on to fight at Anzio and in Germany as well. Received the Bronze Star for bravery.

Thank you Bob and all of those who have put their lives ahead of everything else. God Bless You.

My grandfather served in WWII in the European Theater. Was awarded the Purple Heart. Never did get to meet him, which is unfortunate. Would have loved to learn from him as a history teacher.

Believe it or not, you probably wouldn't have learned much from him. I've found most of the WWII vets I have spoken to rarely talk about their experiences. Not sure why. I can remember trying to get my father in law to talk about it many times and he wouldn't refuse, but it was mostly small bits and pieces. It wasn't until after his death we found out about his Bronze Star, D Day, etc.. Even his wife didn't know he was awarded the Bronze Star.

If anyone has any stories, please share. would love to hear about them.

I've heard that many never discussed much if anything. They quietly came back and went to work/raised a family. I would still have loved to ask, plus he worked for the railroad here in PA and he loved to talk about that. Being a major history nerd I would have ate that up. Especially living in the Coal Region.

My father in law became a fireman right after the war and retired as one. He had no problem talking about that part of his life.

Pour one out for those that didn't come back, and happy veteran's day to those of us that did.

Veterans Day has come again. For all of you on this board that served or are serving, you have my deepest gratitude. For all of those veterans who have allowed us and this country to be who we are because of your sacrifices, we can never thank you enough.

If you see a vet today, please thank them for their service.
