Seems like they're positioning to put more mainstream sports on this network... which could be good or bad for ND. What I'm interested to see is whether this network continues to get included in standard cable packages (e.g. through Verizon, Comcast, etc.) or turns into a subscription thing... or the converse happens and Comcast/NBC starts making ESPN subscriber only.

I think the goal is to mirror ABC/ESPN. I could see this combo going after another school like Texas and doing a ND/Texas deal rather than a SEC type deal.

my only fear is tht home games are eventually relegated to the cable station if we cant perform on the field

Even if the Irish do not perform, what else is NBC going to show Saturday afternoons in the fall that draw as high of ratings as ND football?
