I understand the frustration.

It's silly to say that a man who has been here for 9 months isn't the answer. Especially with his track record. We have been bad. I get that. I agree.

There is no way to tell is Brian Kelly is the answer or not right now. If we were undefeated, I would think that it was silly to call Brian Kelly the answer (remember Ty?). We don't know yet.

I understand the frustration.

So true, but since there have been plenty of opportunities to question his decision making, there is ample room to question his capacity for leading this team back to glory. There are no examples of this team over-performing this year. There are, however, examples of them under-performing. I don't think the man should be fired, but the blowing of Brian Kelly should officially be over. Sure it's fine to believe in him, that's just as legitimate as people doubting him, but the unrealistic views and tones towards people who don't ride his jock is starting to get frustrating. People have been vilified on this board for not walking in line with others who wish to buy into Kelly 100%, and it needs to stop.

He talked a lot, and got everyone excited--he's a great public speaker, but he needs to show us. Now he hasn't gotten enough time to show us his complete product, so he gets more chances, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning his ability to achieve his stated goals, with the evidence we have seen thus far.

But doesn't his history as a College Football coach give you more reason to believe than not? I would say IrishJayhawk has more factual evidence backing him than anyone who calls for Coach Kelly's head.

He didn't call for coach Kelly's head. The comment IrishJayhawk called silly was referencing the poster's doubt about Kelly's ability to lead this team back--which is a perfectly reasonable question considering what we have seen this year. Of course he shouldn't be fired, but questioning his ability to achieve his goals is completely legitimate. I never backed calling for coach Kelly's head, but I do back anyone who has legitimate questions about Kelly. The strawberries and giggles crowd needs to understand that people have a valid reason to question the program. Just because you may find it silly or incorrect, does not make it factual.

No surprise I agree with this completely...

What were the things Kelly talked about:

1) The need to win NOW (which includes not losing to lesser teams)
2) Preparation
3) Mental and Physical toughness

item one is completely shot in the ***...I could have accepted a 6 and 6 season...even a 5 and 7...but the losses to Navy and Tulsa...those have such pervasive impacts...Kelly has now impacted his own recruitng and the buy-in of the guys currently playing for him...he has such a long road now...this could have been much easier for him.

item two is mediocre...NAVY was a complete debacle/failure...most other games were lost due to item 3

item 3 is simply not there on the Mental side of things...I have never, in all my years of being involved with Football, seen a team make more mental mistakes in critical situations in my life...they fold up under pressure, and fail to execute. Kelly is supposed to be an upgrade from CW...I'd call it in CW's favor right now on the mental toughness thing...and that is a very bad thing...SERIOUSLY. Physically tough...who knows, our kids are hurt with injuries you can't tough your way through...I see physical toughness at times, but other times I see us getting punched in the mouth by smaller opponents...I don't doubt we have better stamina...but our regression in mental toughness yields the same results as CW...

In short, BK staff can't make guys faster...but they can put them in a position to win, and they can impact their ability to stop shooting themselves in the foot. Not yet seeing improvement there...

This is Notre Dame football! Scut Farkus represents ND football. Getting taken down by smaller opponents and getting knocked on their ***. How Ironic that Scut Farkus has red hair and looks like a leprachaun. Hmmmm, I wonder if he's Irish as well. LOL

So is ND so bad to say that they could be the "Ralphies" against the bye week? I want to put 200 mill on the bye week please. I may even take the points. Mr. McGibblets can you put together a vbookie event on the ND vs. Bye week?

Thoughts...

This team is the opposite of clutch, and they've been like that since Quinn left town. I always felt like Charlie put his players in a position to win, and they couldn't do it. I feel like Kelly is in the same position right now: his players (who are very talented) are finding ways to fail. They've got a losing attitude and Kelly's success at changing that attitude will determine the success of his tenure.

On a related note, losing Lynch has gotten me thinking about the way we recruit. Quite frankly, everyone from the coaching staff on down to the fans pumps up these kids egos: "come here", we say, "and save our program." Well, guess what... that plays into the losing atmosphere. Instead of grinders, we end up with a bunch of pre-madonna freshmen who quit at the first sign of adversity. Give me the Roby Tomas of the world over the Shaq Evanses any day. Or the Brady Quinns over the Jimmy Claussens*...

As for Aaron, I wish him the best. I think he's making a huge mistake, but it's his life. I do, however, hope that he ends up in Miami. Absolutely nothing would give me greater pleasure than watching the Irish beat the sh*t out of him and the canes for 60 minutes in Soldier Field.

Which brings me to my final point: we are down but we are not out. Learning how to win is an immense challenge. But ND is big enough to survive a bad 4 years. There are still players out there who would give their left ball and most of their right to put on that Golden Helmet. I can't see into the future, but give me a 3 star who has dreamed of the Irish his whole life over a Lynch any day. It seems like every team gets excited to play ND; I want guys who are excited to play FOR ND.

*Who, to his credit, learned how to handle adversity over his time here.
