Does anyone have any insight on who will replace these guys? Any rumors or anything?

I heard that an Alford is the new RB coach??

And I live in Columbus, and osu fans are in an uproar about Fickell interviewing for the dline position. Seems like most fans think he should be their DC now, becuase they are not happy with Heacock after the last few years in big games.

Alford (RB coach at Louisville) is also the name I have heard.

From another message board. Take it for what its worth...

Corwin Brown is the d-coordinator at ND. Tenuta is the LB coach(asst. Head coach). Fickell would be the d-line coach. Word is that Tenuta could have been the new d-coord at LSU before they hired Chavis. He declined. Hard to believe but seems to be true. I could see Tenuta staying one more season and then taking either a DC job or looking into a head coaching position. Corwin Brown taking a head coaching position after another year or two, leaving the DC job open(Fickell). Also, rumor is that Tenuta was not a great head coach candidate a couple years ago because he was seen as aDefensive coach only. He wanted to work with Weis because of his offensive reputation, thats the reason he didn't go after a better DC job when he was first hired at ND.

If Fickell really leaves OSU it would be HUGE! I live in Ohio and I told my buddy this rumor and he flipped out. They want him to be the DC and head coach someday. He is a GREAT recruiter!!!!

I like the idea of Fickell. From what I have read, he brings a lot to the table. Plus, anytime we can take someone away from OSU (be it player or coach) I am pretty happy.

My heart wanted Chris Zorich, but who knows if that would work. I like that Fickell is proven and is known to be a good recruiter.

charlie seriously needs to embrace the traditions and players of the past. chris zorich is so good for ND on many levels. i realize he hasn't coached in the pros or college but he's a passionate man and he bleeds blue and gold. i don't see many options out there right now and i don't think it's hokey having a guy like zorich around.

It's very risky putting a guy out there with zero coaching experience in such a vital coaching position in the HOPE that he turns out to be a great coach. Not all great athletes make good coaches. Just ask Magic Johnson (oh, what a nightmare that was for us Laker fans). You don't just automatically know what you're doing as a coach. Some guys have it, but most have to learn so much, and ND fans want BCS games, and a kid making mistakes on the job ain't gonna cut it.

However, there should definitely be a spot for the guy. Who couldn't use his passion at the very least? I would do what USC did with Ken Norton. Norton was a graduate assistant first (or was it volunteer assistant?), and he had to earn his chops. Norton was a superstar in both college and the NFL, and he still had loads to learn and prove. And he did just that. Now he's USC's linebackers coach and the players LOVE him. I mean they'd pretty much stand in front of a bullet for the guy. We could do the same thing with Zorich. At the worst, we find out that he's not coaching material but we don't put him in a position where he'd kill our defense anyways. And at best, we find ourselves a Ken Norton Jr. Upside all around...

Its the same route that Powlus is taking. I know he isn't such a shining example in some people's eyes on here, but he is paying his dues and learning. Zorich could take the same path. If coaching is the direction he wants to go. Who knows, maybe he was laying the groundwork last year being out at practice so much. Plus, we never know what really goes on behind the scenes. He could have had more exposure than we know. I think it is imperative to find a spot for this guy. Not just in the football sense, but from a character standpoint as well. Zorich is one of the most stand up, sincere guys I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He would be an outstanding example for the team both on the field and off. Plus, I think he might have a good shot at opening up the Chicago recruiting pipeline even wider.

i agree completely. We cannot give this job to someone without significant coaching experience. That being said, add Zorich to the staff anyway. Looks like Stripling is the leading candidate and he would be a fantastic hire.

Ron Powlus is a joke and should be fired. He is just a babysitter for the quarterbacks.

i agree, we at least need to give the guy an assistant coaching position and help him learn the ins and outs of coaching. plus, like jeremyND said....i think zorich would be one helluva recruiter. could you imagine how fired up a player would be after he gave them one of his emotional speeches.....i'd run my mother over in a wheelchair or something like that.

Damn. I was really hoping he would jump on board and help the team in a spot that is of necessity. He definately did a great job with all of OSUs linebackers, i think he would have done just as well with the line. Dont care if he has never coached the position, and a good coach is a good coach.
