I'm thinking Tee only has a job right now due to his recruiting prowess, and the fear that shit-canning him now would undermine their class. If that's the case, will the charade hold up until December 19?

No, as an offensive coordinator I think he was pretty damn bad, but as a receiver coach he had some pretty amazing units. Obviously his recruiting prowess helped, but he also coached them up a decent amount. I know he coached a few of these guys even though they had been recruited by others, but here's a side by side of Del Alexander and Tee Martin. Keep in mind that Tee Martin has been coaching power 5 football for 9 seasons and Del Alexander has been at it for 14 seasons.

Was listening to Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel's podcast today. They seemed to think Helton is basically a dead coach walking. Only reason USC won't fire him now is because they want to make a clean hire, not another interim who's just successful enough that they have to keep him around.

If/when Clay Helton gets fired,

1. Max Williams, dude u can be our nickel corner when u recover from ur torn acl, flip him if space allows
2. Kenan Christon is a stud, I believe NDCrus believes so as well and that’s all I needed to hear, sign him up.
3. I wonder if Chip Long would sniff again at his two offered TE commits at USC (Ethan Rae and Jude Wolfe). He uses a lot of TE’s and might be down to 4 TE’s next season.
4. Please sign Tee Martin to any non-coordinator job he wants. For the last six seasons he’s been a top 25 recruiter per 247sports in the entire country, there are like 5 dudes who can claim that and that includes the recruiter of the year in 2016. Unfortunately if he goes anywhere it’s probably to Tennessee to join Jeremy Pruitt’s staff, but it’s worth a run at that type of recruiter.

Helton recently signed an extension through 2023. Doesn't guarantee he'll be there in 2023, but probably through 2020.

Maybe not apples to oranges since they were both in FBS, but I would say maybe apples and pears. We're talking about USC compared to Oregon St, Wisconsin, and Arizona St... The name of that school alone will bring in 4 and 5 star WRs. How many of those guys really want to go to Wisconsin while they run the ball 40 times a game?

SC just offered Dawand Jones. Received Miss St and IU offers recently. Avg'd 13 ppg as a junior on a 20 win Bend Davis squad too. He's an interesting prospect. Go IU!

Well that's good to see.

Jones only managed limited playing time, but he played well when given the chance. According to Pro Football Focus Jones is currently USC's second highest graded defender (behind senior Cameron Smith) at 85.3 overall, which is in the elite level grade. One of his best performances came in the second half of USC's Arizona win, filling in for injured WILL linebacker starter John Houston Jr. Jones finished with an 81.1 grade and followed that up with an 81.4 against Colorado with limited snaps.

Embattled USC coach Clay Helton will return for his fourth season, USC athletic director Lynn Swann announced.

The Trojans finished the season 5-7, their first losing year since 2000.

"It is my firm belief that we have a good team returning next year and a solid foundation in place, and that Clay Helton is a good coach," Swann said in a statement. "Let me be clear to everyone, our players, our recruits and our fans. Clay Helton is our head coach and he will continue to be our head coach.

"I am a strong advocate of consistency within a program, sticking by a leader, supporting them and helping them and their team improve."

Brian Kelly’s 6-3 record against USC has come after the two previous coaching regimes — Charlie Weis and Tyrone Willingham — combined to go 0-8 against the Trojans.

Now, not all USC teams are created equal. Bob Davie (3-2) and Gerry Faust (3-2), for instance, have as many wins against ND’s Pacific Coast rival as did Ara Parseghian (3-6-2) and more then Dan Devine (1-5).

This really shouldn't surprise anyone. I think most of the speculation was fabricated by the media or USC fans who wanted him gone. He was given an extension earlier in the year. It's rare to extend a contract and fire the guy several months later. Now if he doesn't show improvement next year i can see Swann letting him go.

The few true SC fans and all the alums I know out here are straight losing their minds... meltdowns daily. The vast majority of their base though is simply shifting their attentions to the Rams or even UCLA for those that assume the Bruins are trending up and such....

They have 1 low 3 star commit along their DLine. They are probably top 2 or lead for Ty Robinson, Stephon Wright, and Drake Jackson but those recruitments have been established for many many months and I don’t see any of those kids all of the sudden spurning their list of schools for a last minute pitch by ND. I think ND is all in on Foskey, 3/4 of the way in on Asa Turner (they probably know he’s not coming at this point but worth trying to get him to visit once more), and somewhat in on Enokk Vimahi. 2019 is essentially done and that’s why the staff is out visiting with 2020 kids a ton this week and there’s been 2 known visits to 2019 uncommitted recruits (Asa Turner & Isaiah Foskey).
