I was watching for that because every ND site talked about the biggest question mark on the defense was a pass rush.
TSU has a bad OL for FCS standards.
All great defenses generate a pass rush with their front 4.
ND couldn’t do it early & resorted to bringing a 5th & even 6th rusher. If ND is going to beat teams like OSU & USC, they have to get a pass rush with 4.
Isn’t JJB supposed to be a proven pass rusher, too?

Of all the things this year's version of ND is good at (and we're REALLY good at almost everything --- a lot of that due to the presence of Sam) --- we are NOT built to pressure the passer with just the front four. This is odd for us in recent years as we've been good at this (mainly I think because we wear OLines down due to having very deep DLines.) This year we do not seem deep with first teamers and might-as-well-be first teamers as we have been. It is my admittedly poorly arguable opinion that this deficiency is why our DC is so blitzhappy so far this season. Now, if you have the correct LBs and corners/safeties you can still get away with this heavy blitz defense (think Venables at Clemson.) ... so I'll stay relaxed a bit longer and watch to see if we D NCState well with our philosophy.

What a weird schedule this year. 3/4 cupcakes and 1/4 some of the best teams in the country.

Do you think there is a solution in terms of personnel? Are they playing the right combination of guys based on your observations today?
I have no idea.
Botehlo & JJB should have gotten pressure with talent alone versus that OL.
I haven’t been impressed with Mills either. I thought he would have drove the OL back into the QB today.

As much as I hate giving you credit for anything, Portland and Seattle do share many similarities. It can be easy to confuse the two. In fact, Portland is a lot like pre-Microsoft Seattle.

I thought Cross was disruptive today. It’s hard to judge with these type of teams (TSU and Navy) who aren’t good enough up front to play you straight up. A lot of misdirections and such. I’m also curious what the responsibilities are along the defensive line. Seems like Golden is trying to free up LBs and safeties. Are the DL trying to occupy blockers instead of getting home? I didn’t really focus on it too much today. Just some thoughts.

The first quarter looked like it was going to be a game where we didn’t score a lot. Glad they turned it around and really played better.

On the obvious passing downs, the ND DL should have whooped that TSU OL & they didn’t.

Alright imma gonna log off for tonight.

Yall are silly. Seattle and Portland have nearly nothing in common other than being on i5 in the Northwest.

Well... we both have good food and coffee.

That's about it.

We looked sloppy initially and then I looked at stats and it didn't seem possible.. felt like the Def was giving up a bunch of yards but didn't... there were several drops by them... nice anytime 3rd string qb comes in... stats and what I saw didn't seem to be the same. Either on offense... didn't think we looked as dominate as stats would say

I’ll watch again tomorrow but I thought they were pretty disruptive but just didn’t get home. So we definitely agree there.

I almost dropped the F bomb multiple times in front of my kids & other kids in the stands when ND got to the QB but missed the tackle.
He was a bit evasive. More so than McCord looked.

There was twice in the 1st Q on that long drive the DL could have taken another step & got him, but both times they dove at his feet.
He wasn’t in a throwing position either time so they had time to get him.
The entire 1st half the DL got their pressure because the secondary had great coverage. It was frustrating because those should have been sacks. TSU had too many sustained drives in the 1st half.
