Have you been on TikTok? It's been noticeably pro Trump since he "saved" it. Anyone using any of the influencers on those platforms as their sources for news is an idiot regardless of party affiliation

I would argue you can better info on Twitter, not FB/TikTok, than any other platform. Right now I am trending the India-Pakistan tension and European blackouts with better info there than I can anywhere else. I'm not advocating for just following Harry Sisson or Catturd. That kinda crap is pointless.

Thank you, Colorado; very generous. I WAS a university science professor for 30 years and the last 15 with a focus on the environmental issues, so I sort of had to know actual science to do that job. What's really disturbing to me is not that people are stone ignorant and too lazy (or mentally shallow) to understand things, yet think that they still should put such ignorance out into the public (which I agree is disturbing enough), but that other people who do have enough brains, and even life efforts/accomplishments, also spew this thoughtless shallow garbage as if they have done their homework.

This latter phenomenon, I think, can only be explained by something "mental" which is not "sufficient brains" but subtler, like inability to relate empathetically with anyone other than family, friends, or, at most, people just like themselves. When you add lifelong programming of a political type to that sort of brain, you get a parroting lazy soap-boxer capable of saying any dumb cant. I could almost peacefully let that go, except it is the well-known basis of followers in potentially dangerous cults. Thoughtless lack of Empathy towards the "Other"; and shallow obedience to the Group Cant.

The cult leader must, however, not interfere with the actual lives of these people TOO grossly or at least some of them will hit the wall of reality and wake up, diminishing the size and adulation of the Cult. As we all go down the drain economically (at least for an extended while) I remain "academically curious" as to how inbred the cult members are and stoutly remain. ... but I think it will take decades for the damage to science and real studies and real testing of claims to be repaired. Scientists all over are literally holding their heads in near despair.

I can agree with that depending on if you're following actual news sources. But he never posts legitimate sources. It's from known Russian propagandists over half the time

With all that being said, it's still a very good thing that our historically worst states are improving. This will probably be one of the last times we can get these numbers tho. Will be curious to see where the states are at after the department of education is gone. Texas is already notorious for having their bad test takers not present on test days to help boost these scores. I imagine we'll see a lot more of that

Adjusted or unadjusted they are going up. And I don't understand how anyone constitutes their success with underperforming minority groups is something to throw shade at... unless you're really, really racist and think Blacks kids doing well at math and reading is a bad thing, which I don't think anyone here is.

I'm not throwing shade at it? The adjustments themselves have... shall we say....less than altruistic assumptions. Mississippi is also still below national averages and both NY and California in the raw data. It's great that Mississippi and Louisiana are improving but the original tweet was misleading and that's what I was clarifying with posting the responses.

The demographic adjustments have been done for a long time under both administrations and are simply statistical for comparing apples-to-apples. I don't even know what you're alluding to. Are you mad that Mississippi is better at educating minorities than blue states? Were you mad about this during the Obama and Biden administrations as well when Mississippi started showing major improvements?

And when did you start having a problem with it? Mississippi has improved greatly in both raw numbers and demographic adjusted stats. This should be commended and more states should follow their lead on the specific changes they made to their educational systems.

Quite a few.

-The made pre-K literacy a priority by directing more funding into those programs. Many preschoolers in Mississippi are already K level literate.
-You're automatically held back and forced to repeat the 3rd grade if you don't hit certain reading benchmarks. So that also naturally helps boost some 4th grade scores.
-Increased funding and training for teachers. A lot of the training and practices stem from federally funded/researched pedagogy best practices
-More recently they've completely changed how they fund schools in the state. They have made some pretty drastic funding increase initiatives to school districts in lower income areas to make up for the lack of a tax base there. They've also done a great job funding special needs programs.

That's what I assumed. I definitely learned phonetically. Not sure why we would have ever moved away from that standard. Makes it way harder to learn new words if you're unable to sound them out properly
