If Barry Odom with UNLV is poached here, could be some good O talent hitting the porty !AZ new coach Hot Board
That's a major reason why Marcus got the job to begin with, isn't it? To prevent a mass exodus? And the portal has only become more and more of a thing in the two years since.I’ve thought about this a lot. Marcus leaving and being replaced by an outside candidate is going to absolutely nuke the program.
There are a variety of reasons they probably ought to rethink the portal windows. December is just chaos now, between transfers and coaching carousels and Early Signing Day. It's killing bowl games. Guys are leaving to flee coaches and then those coaches are fired a week later (Hi there Tobias). Also it'll get weird with the 12-team playoff; more teams will have later coaching changes and post-playoff portal windows. It'll just drag on and on.Yeah, that's the challenge now for WA and AZ (maybe UNLV next) to now try and rebuild, where the portal would play a huge part but it won't until May which is a much less productive portal opening. Holding until April ensures as well that current players of team who's coach is being posed to make en masse exodus (including to the new coaches team) and are forced to take time to think about it and things are stabilized a bit more. It's also not fair in some respects to the players who committed to an AL with Saban, a WA with DeBoer, etc. Unfortunately, kids commit to them and not the School. So, the only remedy would be to make the portal open all the way to final signing day as far as I'm concerned since the NFL carnage should be over by then (maybe even to mid Feb). That's all I can think of for this issue.
I was almost going to mention that last thing here that is indeed a challenge since most schools are in session for Spring semester by mid January. I guess they would have to figure out a way for the transfer enrollee who comes on board as late a 2/2 or thereabouts to enroll and catch up on classes. There are a variety of reasons they probably ought to rethink the portal windows. I'm not sure exactly what the right timing is - because theoretically these guys should be at the new school in time for classes to start in January - but feels like they need to push it back to after bowl/playoff season to let things settle out a little bit.
To be fair, registering for spring classes doesn't seem too big a concern to the guys at Washington and Bama and Arizona who are jumping in now.I was almost going to mention that last thing here that is indeed a challenge since most schools are in session for Spring semester by mid January. That’s the thing I can’t believe folks still don’t get. Most of these kids are choosing a coach not a school. And they’re not going for the degree…they’re going for the exposure & platform that the program provides for them to be showcased for the NFL. I suspect most P5 players rarely, if ever; have to physically attend class & just attend virtually on-line.To be fair, registering for spring classes doesn't seem too big a concern to the guys at Washington and Bama and Arizona who are jumping in now.
word is Jimmy Sexton is the agent for Saban and all the coaches who got raises because of Saban. That’s the thing I can’t believe folks still don’t get. I bet most coaches roll their eyes w/ a “here we go again” response when a P5 HC moves on as they now have to stop what they’re doing & go try to poach a player they think can help their team. At some point there will be a HC-in-waiting organization that is filled w/ P5 HC who leave the chaos of CFB in hopes of latching on to an NFL team. Then the current NFL coaches are consistently looking over their shoulders knowing there’s dozens of coaches-in-waiting ready to interview for their job at first sign of failure. The only winners here are the agents.

Some team gonna get pilfered!UW’s QB room is ugly without Fifita. They won’t have a scholarship QB this spring IIRC
Dam is a beaver reference. So dramatic, lol.
Sexton’s protege (forget his name) is agent for MF & Denbrock among others.word is Jimmy Sexton is the agent for Saban and all the coaches who got raises because of Saban.

About a month. Maybe 6 weeks. Once the Super Bowl is over the NFL carousel will begin to really settle down, but college can't fully halt until the NFL does in the event that new hires are grabbing additional staff from college staffs.I wonder when the musical chairs stop?!
