I give Tommy his due--but geez---THIS IS NOT A TWO QB SYSTEM!---

The only reason Rees came in was becuse golson was seeing double after a brutal hit---

When everett went out, he had found a nice 4th quarter rythm, he was driving the team deep into stanford territory---he had just come off the TD drive & the throw to Eifert--IMHO had golson not been knocked out we win the game in regulation with a TD--kelly backed off and played it safe for the overtime with tommy in--understandable since we don't give up TD's.

Nonetheless Golson was NOT lifted in this game and most likely would have won the game.

I disagree. This whole situation is the precise definition of a 2 QB system. Tonight Tommy came in b/c of the injury. But BK may very well have brought him in in OT, just like he has in other games to close them out when the situation dictated.

If you have a 2 players who you chose to play in different situations, THAT IS a 2 QB system. You don't have to like it, and I get that. But it is what it is.

Tommy played well and has been a major part of a few of our wins. Everett just does some things that Tommy is unable to do. Everett will get better each week and is the guy we need to run Kelly's offense. Tommy will be there to help when needed.

We have 6 wins. Three of those are due to the offense led by Rees. 3/6 is a half. That is almost the definition of a not-1-QB system. Those three wins? Happen to be our 3 best.

Rees was also warming up today and it looked as though Golson was awfully close to getting the hook, injury or not.

On a side note don't wait to the 2nd fahking half to run it down there throats!!! Establish the fahking run then let Frosh EG air it out.

I'm not surprised that Tommy is doing well in the situations he's been in. He's done a great job in this role, and he should remain in this role until Golson has progressed to the point where he's no longer needed.

Tommy may not be the future, but he is making the present much better. After his offseason problems, who can take him for granted? Upside or not, he is an ND guy, and helping the team win every chance he gets. I never thought I would be on the Tommy bandwagon!

You just articulated my brain perfectly. $#!+ happens for a reason. Glad he's on our side. Tough road, may not be what we, or he, expected,,,,,,,, but I'm damn glad he's Irish.

Tommy is stone cold, I'm glad he's our closer. 4/4 there at the end to give us the win. Heck of a job coming off the bench cold and wet!

I believe that EG is a tremendous athlete and should be the starter and will get better and better. However, I am at a loss to understand why people are surprised that Tommy Rees is better than he was last year. Do we not expect EG to be better next year than this year? Are we suddenly surprised by the experience factor, as if it plays no role in a players progression? I remember, last year many of you saying that Tommy had reached his ceiling and could not get any better. Tommy was a sophomore last year, playing qb with a lot of pressure on him, pressure from not only from in game situations when we were behind, but from overall performance expectations. I think he handles himself very well.

I have seen many qb's for many different teams both college and pro. I must say the qb's that can read the defense and make the necessary adjustments tend to be better, even though they may not be as physically gifted. These attributes can be learned and I fully expect that EG will learn them as time goes on. When he does and combines them with his athletic ability he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Right now, I am very very happy. Go EG & TR.

Brah, Evertt is punch drunk at this point... He's not going through any progressions at all. He hits his initial read and gets happy feet. The pocket is there....he's playing scared. Not stepping up into the pocket. #disappointed in play

I must have been watching a different game. The pocket was collapsing around Golson on nearly every pass attempt because Stanford was bringing six or seven players on passing situations and relying on the defensive backs to prevent any quick passes. Niklas had a particularly bad day of blocking on the outside. Golson was forced to throw away a number of passes and scramble on others. He may have had happy feet, but the offensive line didn't give him much choice.

The blocking improved in the fourth quarter and we were able to have some sustained drives. Tommy did a nice job, but benefited from the improved protection at the end of the game.

I agree. Golson needs to mature as a QB.
If Rees doesnt end up starting he needs to be used more. Put him in everyother drive or quarter. He has done a lot for this team off of the bench. He deserves more playing time.

Rees did an awesome job coming in and winning the game.
But, if you take a closer look , all he did was throw a couple jump balls that the receiver either made a great play on or drew a penalty.
Even the td was a pretty bad throw and was way behind TJ.
Same thing in the PU game... soft tossed jump balls that over the course of a full game, get picked off.

I'm not sure he's improved enough to warrant starting or even more playing time outside of a #5 injury or ineffectiveness.

Well my thinking is, if they were throws any QB could have made... Why couldnt EG make them when they counted? One thing more important than a strong arm is the ability to get it done. Rees gets it done and makes it look easy!

What may look like inaccurate passes, could be well placed and well timed passes put only where the receiver can catch it and only where the receiver knows where it will be. We see this a lot with timing patterns and jump balls these days... Turn the DBs hips once they are turned the ball is already in the air.
For all we know they have been practicing a goal line slant patterns with the ball placed on the outside hip... very possible!

And Im not concerned with TR leaving next year. Im worried about this year. For all we know a freshman could come in and start next year or something could happen to EG from now 'til next August. Anything could happen from now to the start of next season. I want the best guy this year to play this season.

We're in a unique situation because we're building for the future but trying to win now at once. If we weren't 6-0 I don't think the calls for Golson's head would be quite so loud. The back up QB gets lionized at times but he's the back up for the reason. Normally if you have 2 QB's you have none but for now I'm content with the way BK has handled it. Let Golson continue to start and mature. These big moments are important for him. Honestly as long as the O-line hold up Golson will be fine.
