Yeah. Not excusing Rees here but look at our 2020 class. On offense it's Mayer, Tyree and... Pyne?

2019 we went big on OL and, well, the only offensive player who turned out to be any good was Williams, who was not very highly-rated, and is now gone.

Those are our current juniors and seniors. It's remarkable how weak those classes are, especially on offense.
Exactly. Half the starters on our offense were fresh out of high school a year ago. It's scary to think how we could be even worse if recruiting didn't pick up for the '21 class. The future is bright if recruiting keeps up, but till then there's going to be growing pains...awful growing pains.

I bet we hire Brian Hartline as OC. He’s a big enough name to keep Carr happy and excite the receivers.

That could work. We absolutely would need to entice some transfers so Hartline isn't walking into an offense half filled with underclassmen next year. Maybe...bring some dudes from Ohio State over? 😈

Not the most inspiring list outside of Ruggiero.
Perhaps you have a more inspirational list. Some of these guys just got to their current jobs and have a lot of games left.

Not sure how a WR coach helps QB development.
Well, I think you just start recruiting talent and not white board wizards. And I'm being 100% serious. Just start recruiting the young men that can sling it around and worry about teaching them the game later. I think Rees is the problem with QB recruiting and has been. For every 1 CJ Carr he's blown several recruitments to think otherwise.

We need to recruit pure talent at the position and let the process sort itself out.

Some of these guys weren't at their current stops last year. FWIW. Garret Riley (TCU) for example. Was at SMU.

Money is the only answer. Whether looking for a retread HC or someone else, ND realistically is going to need to pay $2m/year with 3 years guaranteed to get anyone to take on this dumpster fire.
Uh - Duh. Money is the answer!!

Warren Ruggiero Wake Forest OC: Offensive innovator who does great work with dual threat QBs in an RPO based scheme. Would be a great fit with Buchner at QB, and comes from a school that profiles well to ND. Might be able to bring a GT WR or 2 with him? (#1 or #2 candidate IMO)

Garrett Riley TCU OC: Highly productive offenses at SMU both seasons he was OC there, young, bit of an up and comer

Jeff Grimes Baylor OC: Experienced play caller and coach, developed Zach Wilson at BYU, turned around a putrid Baylor offense rather quickly, OL background who wants to establish a physical, tough presence up front, TEs get a lot of use (IMO #1 or #2 candidate)

Tom Manning Iowa State OC: Had several highly productive offenses at Iowa State, worked well with dual threat QBs, highly productive TEs, lots of RPOs

Mike Yurcich Penn State OC: Architect of several explosive offenses over almost a decade, great QB recruiter and developer, great use of his personnel, might be a bit of a pipe dream and ready for a HC gig.

Kirk Ciarrocca Minnesota OC: High floor low ceiling hire, Tanner Morgan's best seasons came under his tutelage, simple RPO scheme that's easy on QBs, power run game

Ryan Grubb Washington OC: Innovative scheme, highly productive offenses at Fresno State and now Washington. Makes things easy on QBs and puts them into positions to succeed (edited)

I’ll acknowledge that Rees (rightfully) accepted blame tonight, but this quote sticks out and rubbed me the wrong way for some reason:

In any event, some bits from the presser can be found on Mike’s Twitter account.

First series at OSU, I knew something wasn’t right. There was a play inside the 15 maybe where Buchner gave it to the back running left and the entire right side was open with lead blockers. There’s no way he had the freedom to pull it and run. That was a straight give. I’ve seen other examples like that as well. Tommy has fucked this up

RPO seems to be a dead concept this year.

Which is bizarre when your QB is such a running threat.

We started off the season with little to no RPOs last year too. Tommy relented after the bye week and increased their usage....and then went back to the stuff that didn't work at the beginning of last year again. Definition of insanity.

Emerging what? You need to learn how to control your emotions. If you took the time to read, you'd see that I'm questioning Tommy. But answer me this all mighty one. How many new coaches have been fired in their first year going 0-2? Don't throw the 0-3 at me because anyone with any sense knows the Fiesta doesn't count due to the demands on Freeman's time as he was getting settled in. Surprised you haven't called for Jenkins head.
I rarely disagree with you but the Fiesta certainly counts for me
