I honestly have only seen a few matches of AJ's when he was with TNA. He's obviously a great in ring performer and not a one trick pony like a lot of "Sports Entertainment" wrestlers. How is he on the mic? Is he charismatic, can he carry a feud?

Honestly he hasnt blown me away on the mic. I would say that he is fine for the part. Last night his mic time was pretty good. Hes been carrying this feud with Jericho for like 5 or 6 weeks now. So i think this is his time to shine.

Wow, crazy. Saw that Stephanie McMahon tweeted about Chyna's passing, kind of awkward when you think about it, and then I realize that whole thin happened almost 20 years ago...I'm old. Wonder if HHH will say anything, or X-Pac.

Royal Rumble tonight, and it should be a good one. My predictions:

Winners
Woman's Rumble: Ronda Rousey
Men's Rumble: Shinsuke Nakamura

What I want: Daniel Bryant and/or CM Punk enter the Rumble.

All my college buddies and I watched in college... I was the first to move out the dorms and I would buy all the pay per views, everyone would come over,... it was our thing. Many of them still watch, I almost joined them tonight just to hang out but decided not to... it’s funny hear some of them talk... I have a few that really hate sports and think it’s boring, but they talk about WWE like it’s real and super original and such... I just laugh.

I was excited to see that Irish Envy had commentary on the Wrestling World Cup this weekend in Iowa City.

Then I saw this...

Ha, yeah it should’ve been titled, ‘the show about wrestling thread’...

So that was the first wrestling I've watched in 15 years. Maybe it's just me being 28 instead of 13, but wrestling suuucks now. Where are all of the good characters? We used to have a single dude (Mick Foley) who played three characters better than any one character I saw last night. Zero star power, and the closest thing I saw to a compelling storyline was a hot Avril Lavigne-looking chick who fat shamed The Rock's cousin.

Gone are the days where wrestlers are charismatic, or technically sound. You have writers that create the dialogue and stories these days, as oppose to the wrestlers that were original and came up with their own material. Sure, there are some wrestlers that are still good on the mic, and there are some that can wrestle a decent match, but they are few and far between. 90% of the matches are punches and kicks. Wrestlers today are more athletic and in better shape than the ones we grew up with, and yet their skill sets are vastly inferior and simpler. It's just boring to watch more often than not. Too many Roman Reignses and not enough Daniel Bryans.

From what I've seen of Styles and Nakamura can put on some great matches... like as good as anyone from our era...

punches and kicks are safer than pile drivers. good for wrestler safety but kinda sucks for fans

Seriously. Roman Reigns' "signature" move is the "Superman punch" which, from what I can tell, is just a punch. What the shit is that?

Yeah. in fairness though some of the big guys from our era(s) had pretty lame finishers too

Finishing moves have gotten lazier and lazier.
I blame the Rock and the People's Elbow.

Yeah, I understand the need to reduce/remove pile drivers, but there's a lot of grappling/reversals that are completely safe that wrestlers today either don't know how to do or won't do. That's what made wrestling actually wrestling, as oppose to street fights which is about all they are today.

Hey, you can knock Hogan if you want, but if a 300+ lbs man actually dropped his thigh on your neck, you're not getting up anytime soon.

Little RVD accidentally landed on HHH's neck in an Elimination Chamber back in 2002 and HHH was basically incapacitated for the rest of the match. His throat was crushed and he had to go to the ER after the match. Somehow he was able to get up and finish, but not after he was legit injured on the ground for most of the match.

these guys are on the road 365 days a year though, their bodies wouldn't hold up if they had to wrestle like they do on PPV's every other night. They'd end up broken in no time.

Nobody wants to see the old rest holds anymore dude. They want action. WWE is trying to compete for the attention with the UFC. It has to be explosive, where a match could be over at any second ala MMA knockouts

I don't even care about the relative violence of the finisher, I care more about the flair/style/personality.

There are some good guys that have great move sets and such though... Owens, Styles, Nakamur, Zayn, Wyatt... all could have made it in the attitude era imo

Worst finisher of all time has to be The Ultimate Warrior's generic splash:

I disagree. The problem isn't explosiveness or action. Brock Lesnar suplexed or F5ed Roman Reigns over a dozen times last night (six German suplexes, five F5s, at least two belly-to-belly suplexes) and nobody cared. Because nobody cared about Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns. Absolutely zero mic skills from either of them and no compelling storyline behind the match.

back to the "kicking and punching" style too you have to remember this form of wrestling is fashionable in Japan where the likes of Nakamura and Fergal Devitt came through from. WWE has many dudes who came through from different backgrounds now just amateur wrestling so there's going to way more diversity in styles nowadays
