The admin support comes with winning and seeing the windfalls from it. Sabah had to fight the UA admin over just about everything his first two years. He had to fight the old timers working within the athletic Dept at every turn. He had to fight Bryant Jr every day. And he had to deal with the big money boosters as well. All of those things, along with horrible coaching hires previously and he had the hand Charlie Strong currently has at UT. But as he started winning, despite the constant struggle with those mentioned, he eventfully was able to run the old guard out, shut up the boosters, all the while handing over huge chunks of money to the school from football. He runs the show now and has done so since his first NC at Bama.

There is no reason the right coach at Notre Dame couldn't take a similar path. With winning comes power and with power things change. Notre Dame and the power to be need to learn how to respect and honor the past tradition but be willing to forge a new and better tradition. It can be done, and done correctly. Fight on Notre Dame. Fight on!!!!

You are wrong. Why do you think Meyer walked away from his "dream job". After the Weis and Willingham debacles the administration loosened up. Kelly has the most leeway since Holtz, but still not as good as Holtz had it. If the university wants to win then they have to give the next coach Holtz type leeway.

If Kelly is getting more exceptions then Meyer wanted then we should have no issue pulling Meyer now. After all this is his 'dream job' and the exceptions would be greater than he initially wanted.

All great points but I must disagree--one point and one point only--ABSOLUTE ADMN COOPERATION--such as what you see in the elites ( which Notre Dame is not ). Could be meant as you would be allowed to cheat if you don't get caught.

100% agree.

I never ever thought you were a troll. But, this post has me questioning that, I could be completely off base though.

Mainly the words "Fight on". Is Notre Dame now the Southern California Trojans? Barf.

Also, you would figure after Kelly had an undefeated regular season and took the University to the National Championship game he would have won over the administration and the boosters right? Then Kelly wins 8+ games every year he has been a coach at Notre Dame, that's 6 straight years, which has not been done in god knows how long. But still has not won over the admins and is still fighting them.

What I think you still don't completely get is Notre Dame is not like all the other football university factories. You are not close enough to the University to completely understand circumstance. Notre Dame will never be on the same playing field as Alabama, FSU, OSU, LSU, Texas, Clemson, heck even Michigan and Florida. Look at what Paul Johnson is going through at Ga Tech. He came out and said that Ga Tech isn't in the same playing field of the Clemsons of the world. And Ga Tech doesn't come close to the restrictions Notre Dame puts on themselves.

What other school in the nation would self expose to the world the frozen five situation? The answer is none.

Cam Robinson was arrested for an unlicensed hand gun this summer. Max Redfield was arrested for an unlicensed hand gun this summer. Cam Robinson is starting and will be a first round draft pick come April 2017. Max Redfield was kicked off the team and now apparently kicked out off school, just months before he was supposed to graduate.

Right. There are things Notre Dame won't (and shouldn't) compromise on. Most of the most important revolve around the idea that student-athletes are students and thus have to take legit majors, live in regular (single-sex) dorms for at least freshman year and maintain at least a 1.8 GPA without cheating. Just like every other student. For the same reasons, don't hold your breath on JUCOs (few of whom would have the coursework to graduate in even five years) or kids with really poor academic backgrounds in high school ever getting past admissions.
Which is not to say we can't have a program that wins 10+ games and compete for playoff spots regularly. We've got enough advantages that we can and should. But Notre Dame starts from a different place than many of the other blue-chip programs out there. That's one of the things that makes them worth rooting for.

I get that there is an uphill climb with the admin at Notre Dame. And it will take a lot to win them over... If that is even possible. But winning has a way of getting them more on your side. I am not saying Notre Dame needs to sell out in order to have a great football team. What I am saying is that the right coach can have enough of an effect to make make football more relevant to the admin.

As far as the troll reference I hope you were simply kidding. Thanks.

I know you are not saying Notre Dame should sell out. But, many times I wish they would, so they could put the best possible product, with all the resources they have, on the field.

As far as a troll I'm teasing you. Thought it was funny that you wrote "fight on". Since that is the saying of Notre Dame's rival. BTW love the work you guys put on USC this year.

Well if it helps, I hate USC. They are right there with meat chicken as far as I'm concerned. Sorry for the reference.... it really didn't dawn on me at the time.

Like I was saying we are old timers my friend.

Side note: I was just watching college football live and Samantha Ponder looks better than ever. Someone please explain to me how Christian locked that down...especially since he is younger than her!

A couple things:

-Not sure 2 dudes in their mid 30's are "old timers." If this was the year 2016......B.C., then yes, maybe y'all would be old timers.

-Sam has dropped down a peg or two the last couple of years. She doesn't seem to be aging well. Like, in 10 years or so, I could see her looking like Roy Munson's landlady in Kingpin. Christian should have locked down his girlfriend from before Sam. She was hot AF. Total smoke show.

Thanks for not making me feel old.

You are totally crazy. San looks better than ever.
