I think the Fox Sports story is more damaging then the autographs.

FSU now seems a bit more concerned about image so I doubt they will take the heat for sitting him out just for Syracuse.

I think they have a new President that is a bit more active or hands on.

I think they sit him for longer. The new penalties give one game suspensions for things under 400 bucks. 2 under 700, or something like that. ... If the #s reported are correct, way more than 700 bucks.

Not sure how I feel about this. Kind of want him to be playing, but winning the game is all that really matters. Rather win with him out than lose with him in.

If he's guilty, he should be done.

That's the thing though. People would pencil this in as an automatic win, and it would still be very far from that. FSU with (or without) Winston is still by far the best team we will have played.

Your right. Fuck it. Play the fat chump. He's three donuts away from being a taller Prince Fielder. He'd get laughed at by the bod squad. His punishment will be death by VanGorder. WE ARE ND! (and I'm drinking).

The NCAA does not have the manpower or financial resources to be ahead of this stuff before the media releases it. It came out now b/c it was linked to Gurley. A good portion of what the NCAA investigates takes place after a news story has already broken.

It is interesting to note that the autograph dealer in question is apparently a Florida fan, now in the center of a potential scandal with Georgia's and FSU's best player, respectively.

I don't see him sitting at all then right now. This is only at the media level. FSU hasn't announced, or probably even launched, an investigation. Gurley wasn't suspended until Georgia announced its investigation. If FSU reacts as fast as they did with the rape allegations, he'll be in the NFL before they start the investigation.

And if he is then deemed ineligible and plays in a game they will be forced to forfeit that game. Whether or not they have had time to start an investigation doesn't matter in my opinion; they want to protect their perfect season and the only way to do that is hold him out until they come to some sort of understanding of whether or not he was paid to sign memorabilia.

The media ignored the Gurley stuff (thanks ESPN) for weeks. The story broke on Winston much quicker. I don't think FSU can wait to sit him. I think they are scrambling like eggs right now trying to find out WTF happened.

So if he is suspended say tonight, and still found to have taken money for his autograph, they forfeit all the games this year correct?

I agree. I want to beat them when they are at their best and then no one can talk crap.

I've never understood this reasoning (nothing against you) If (big if) ND wins out and wins the National Championship, no one next year is going to say, they won it because they didn't have to beat FSU with Winston. Did anyone see FSU's schedule last year? They played one good team during the season, Clemson, beat an above average Duke squad before beating Auburn. It still counts as a NC. Who gives a shit what the talking heads are going to say? If FSU wins, no one will say, well ND didn't have their best cb, wr and another starting De. I will take a easy/questionable win over getting FSU's best and potentially losing 100/100 ever time. We need to get into the playoff, and if Winston being out helps then so be it. That being said, watching FSU handle the rape case makes me believe they won't do anything.

Nope (or at least unlikely). If they know about it and play him then yes but since they didn't know before today then they wouldn't have to forfeit the games already played.

I believe that would depend on when he was actually paid the money; I would think that he would be deemed retroactively ineligible for every game he played after he was paid for signing autographs.

That's where my apprehension lies. This would still be a very, Very, VERY tough game. FSU is by far the fastest and most skilled team we will have played. People dismiss that without JW they are a pile of s-hit, and that simply isn't true.

I just wasn't sure if it was from the day he took the money, or from the day the University was aware he possibly committed a NCAA violation, if they played him,

We know this kind of scandal won't occur at ND. Others sign the autographs for them.

Too soon?

others don't actually sign the autographs, they just edit/proofread the autographs that were already signed

ND may vacate but they would probably only do it if they determine that the person who wrote the papers was an employee of the athletic department (as she did have a paid position there). That is really the key difference.
