Good for Rossi. After not making it in Formula 1, the Indy 500 is the best consolation available.

He will be back in Europe during the Summer. F1 career still ahead of him.

Had my first Indy 500 experience today and all I can say is nothing compares. The absolute magnitude of the event is unbelievable. It's something you have to experience to understand. .

I've been to the 500 3 times (2001-2003), and watched every other one since about 1987. Actually I've watched pretty much every other Indycar race since the mid-late 80's, outside of the split years. Indycar and f1, yes, Nascar....no thanks.

It's Indiana's day once again. Wish I could've made it this year but I'm attempting to play grown up in Corporate America.

I'll be rooting for Helio. The icon's have been stuck on 4 for 30 year now.

Damn, that Purdue commercial just brought a tear to my eye.

Time to crack a cold one and celebrate 'Merica!

Happy Memorial Day guys and thank you to the individuals & families who sacrificed everything for our Country.

Attended for many years, nothing like it. Worked for the series for 8 years back in late 90's/early 2000's. Still attend a couple of races each year...Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin is a great event, family friendly, great setting.
God's speed today for all the drivers...rooting for Colton Herta.

Really want either Connor Daly or Helio to win today!!! Opening ceremonies always bring a tear to my eye and there is just something special about being from Indiana and watching the 500, makes me miss home!

Interesting red flag finish.

Cool story on Penske's history with IMS.

It was perfect weather here today! Great day for racing. I've been to the race several times and honestly in my opinion is perhaps one of the more exhilarating experiences. To hear the roar of the engines, to watch how fast these guys go is special. I recommend this experience to anyone. The month of May in Indy is alot of fun with the parade, qualifications, practices, concerts and more. It's a fun event regardless of whether you're a huge sports fan or not. The city just kind of transforms itself during May. Only thing that's not alot of fun is exiting the Speedway after the race.

It does make you miss home. I spent several years overseas and 5 years in Hawaii and it was moments like the Indy 500 that made me proud to be from Indy.

Even if you're not a race fan, the Indy 500 is a must attend bucket list item. 325,000 in attendance this year and you guys are correct. The opening ceremonies are second to none. Those warm up laps and the drop of the flag gets everyone standing and cheering. Sends goosebumps down through the body. Hats off to Penske for understanding what the Indy 500 really is.

Back in the 60's and 70's the Snake Pit was worth strolling through. Boobs galore! The partying then was on another level. Now they have a concert going on while the race is underway. Looked like there was 3K or 4K just watching the concert and partying. I think it was in '71 we went and one of my buddies brought a parachute. We found a cardboard box in the infield, so we'd sit in the box and hold onto the parachute. You'd be surprised how fast you scoot across the ground when the parachute catches a breeze. It didn't take long before the guys in the famous yellow shirts saw us. I still remember them running after my buddy trying to catch him. lol

I've heard stories similar to this from friends and parents of friends that went during that same time period. truly were simpler times I guess. That being said, when I was going in 2010 for the first time me and my buddies were just in the middle of a random section with drunk men and women. There was a group of women (probably late 30's early 40's) about 6 rows up from us. One of the drunk men, thanks to some liquid courage, hollered to the women to "show me your tittes" to which the women all flashed us for a solid 4 seconds.

Weren't the best pairs of tits, but they were tits.

We went back for the next 2 years and then I moved for college and I'm no longer in the state. They go every year still and tell me nothing was quite like that first time.

Chevy engines look like they may have the edge, but many factors will come into playbefore the checkered flag flies. Great event to witness.

Agree. Even though I live here, it's a bucket list must for anyone even if you're not a race fan. The spectacle and enormity of it is mind boggling.

I was a yellow shirt for many years. And the years I didn't work, I attended as a fan....until I met my wife (who's family travels to Michigan for the weekend every year....We still have a huge race party but it's not the same). This weekend, I took my kids (7 and 4) to see the cars for the first time. They loved it. Not entirely sure I've experienced any kind of sporting event that comes close to the 500.

People that haven’t been truly can’t comprehend. On race day the track and its surroundings become the second largest city in Indiana. I’ve attended in various forms from the pagoda to turn 4, to turn 1…to the snake pit. Not a bad experience to be had on 500 weekend. Every sports fan should go at least once.

Ah yes, the yellow shirts. I remember getting chased by one. Some buddies and I took a parachute out to qualifications one year. We were in the infield around turn 3. Found a piece of cardboard sat on it and let the wind take each of us for a ride. I don't know how fast I got going but it was faster than I expected. lol Right after I was done, here comes a yellow shirt running after us wanting to confiscate the parachute.
