Tommy Rees did a good job putting together the ingredients he inherited this season. 2021 may be a rebuilding year but if he has a grander vision for the offense it’s his chance to start putting it together.

Rolling with Buchner and having a OU season like result should be a decent framework. Yes Rattler was a RS but he was also the high upside choice and sent the safer choice (Mordecai) packing. You might get a first year starter Kansas State like L but the high upside choice and developing along the way is the only shot at a CFP win.

Buchner or bust. Pyne and Clark don't have enough upside. I don't think we will see an impact QB transfer but I'd like to be wrong here.

Thats where I'm at. As long as ND is building towards something, I'm happy. If we lose an extra game or two because Buchner had some "freshman moments", I wouldn't even care.

If Pyne was "the guy", he would have beat out Book, and Buchner COULD be the guy so let's roll with him unless he's legit bad.

If Kelly rolls with Pyne The best case scenario is the last 3 years repeats itself .

Pyne beats the nobodies , racks up the pseudo stats like Rees and Book but gets destroyed in every game against a top 5 team; all while Buchner transfers and tears it up .

If Kelly starts Buchner next year and begins the rebuild we may be legit in 2 years and compete with the elite.

Would we take Buckner if he was a Wimbush level runner (great) and short/median passer (bad), but with a much better deep ball?

Agree 100%. My biggest fear is that Kelly decides to start Pyne and we get stuck with him for multiple years of mediocrity.

We need playmakers at WR and in a hurry. Going into this season we lost our 3 biggest receiving targets and it took half a season almost before any of the WRs really stepped up. Even then, the position needs help. Now we'll be reloading again at that position, but at least we return two big targets in Mayer and Williams.

I'm looking forward to the QB competition. I appreciate what Book did stepping up when others failed to do so, but I also think a QB competition will be good to push our guys and see who rises to the challenge and who struggles. I don't really care who starts, as long as they're the best we got I'll support them. Always have, always will.

LOL! Kelly doesn’t play them. Look at our wr recruiting results. The highest rated recruits must actually suck as soon as they get to south bend.

Took Kelly 3 years to feature a generational player like Claypool.

Kelly looks good with the brand of Notre Dame behind him, but he is average at best in developing talent. Can’t wait til him and Tommy boy are gone!

Kelly, Rees, and book may break all the records but never win anything that matters

Chandler Morris QB OU has entered the transfer portal. 7th rated dual threat... Worth a look?

No doubt. After that let’s get another db transfer likenick mcloud to stink it up and waste more recruits

With the way our corner recruiting has gone over the last 2 cycles, I’ll gladly take another grad transfer. A guy like Lewis isn’t starting because he’s supremely talented, he’s starting because our depth and recruiting at the position is horrible.

I really hope Kelly takes a good hard look in the mirror and bites the bullet and plays the talented guys. I have nothing against the current crop of WR's....actually found them to be kinda fun throwback dudes but....I also would like slants to turn into big plays.

when I saw number 26 miss Smith's entire area on the first TD I was really hoping it was Bracy (who we have already written off). Alas it was Lewis.

Yep. I keep thinking if Austin was more involved as a freshman he possibly does not go off the rails yr 2, which means he is not pushing so hard this year and so does not get injured. Just play them when you've got them.

I think you’re going to see ND go all in on a rebuilding year for offense. I think you will see about 7-8 new starters on offense, and they will be young. If Buchner can’t win the starting job because he is a bust or isn’t ready then ND football might be kind of fucked. I’d love for them to look into some QB transfers but I’m not holding my breath.

I think on defense you will see continuity (assuming they go with an internal hire) and a lot more of the same faces. Prior will probably be the ROVER, or Liufau. McCloud’s spot and Crawford’s spot are the biggest question marks... not a ton of answers on the roster for either of those. Houston Griffith has yet to put it all together but he or Brown would be the logical player to start next to Hamilton if no fresh face steps up. CB is by far the biggest question make on that side of the ball.

Pryor is going to take a 6th year?

I think we're due for a down year. Something like 8-4.

at Florida State -
vs Toledo -
vs Purdue -
vs* Wisconsin
vs Cincinnati
at Virginia Tech
BYE
vs USC
vs North Carolina
vs Navy
at Virginia
vs Georgia Tech
at Stanford

I could see a disastrous 7-5 or 12-0. Really depends on the QB and OL situations.

8-4 should be the floor.

Those should all be inexcusable to lose.

Wisconsin, USC, and Cincy don't scare me in particular either.

Realistically I'd say 10-2 at least unless the QB position is a total disaster.

I wouldn't be surprised by a 10 or more win season, or a disaster....

I'd hate to see a disaster. A great season is also not out of the realm of possibility.

Still. The team that spanked us 2 weeks ago will reload, the team that spanked us tonight will reload, and the team that spanked the team that spanked us 2 weeks ago will reload. We're tier 2 unless we have a breakout at the QB and WR positions.

Most of our fine students don’t need football. Look at the players reaction after a loss. Lol.

I gave up denial and delusion in 2018. We overachieved this year and it was fantastic when Book played great for a month.

Alabama’s qb graduated in 2 and a half years and has a masters degree. We didn’t offer him lol.

Winning it all requires a complete overhaul! Admissions, coaching , recruiting , and player development.

Going to a Guns N’ Roses concert today and expecting the Axl Rose of 1988 will seem shitty. Fun to relive the past but it’s clearly not the same .

I hope someday we find the next young Dabo Swinney but until everything changes, this year was a huge success.

I'd be OK with just finding the next Axl Rose.....
I'm with you. My expectations were sane to begin with.
