Last pass not withstanding, what a spectacular showing.

If we can get this video embedded it would be awesome...and deserving.

His presence in the pocket here is telling of a very serious QB. MOXIE!!!!!
This kid is going to be very special for us... I can't wait.

I'm calling 10-2 for the season right now. Mark it Smokey.

It's only Wednesday...you guys are getting me too damn pumped for Saturday too damn early!

Seriously, Dayne Crist is in his 1st year playing, learning a brand new offense, following perhaps the most accurate QB ND has ever seen. What we do know is this:

1. He has a big-time arm.
2. The team goes as he goes.
3. He is a natural leader who is teammates love.
4. He needs work on his accuracy.
5. He needs to especially work on his deep ball accuracy (esp at the end of games in the endzone!)
6. He has extreme poise under pressure. He threw that beautiful pass to Kyle while standing on the one yard line with the world flying around him, waiting for something to happen.
7. He has great mobility.
8. The jury is still out on how durable he is (had some injuries in h.s.)
9. We have him (possibly) for 3 more years...2 more at least!

And this was his 2nd game ever!!!!

Now he'll have his first road test...against a hostile team/crowd in a night game for all to see. We'll see how he responds to road pressure...

crist 38-53 390+ yards 3tds 1int 65+yards rushing this week ND42 MSU21

Like the yardage total and touchdowns, but I really don't want to see the Irish throw the ball 53 times. Throw it 40 times and feed one of the backs the ball the other 13 times. That will give the defense just a little more R&R and help to ensure fresher legs at the end.

I love the confidence he showed on Saturday throwing more deep balls than he did against Purdue and I believe we will watch Dayne and the team improve on a week to week basis. I think this week will be crucial to Dayne and the team's development and we win by 2 td's. 35-21.

I obviously loved the end result of that play, but as it was happening all I kept screaming was throw it or run, it felt like he had an hour between snap & throw. Either way he has a hell of an arm & I can't wait to watch him this Sat. against PMSU!

Jimmy Clausen would have had to put a huge arc on the football to even get it that far down the field. Crist has an incredible arm.

Accuracy needs huge work. Clausen has everybody beat in that category except for maybe Montana or Theismann. His deep balls have no air and most of the time his deep balls are badly overthrown and uncatchable. He had Floyd twice against Purdue and missed badly both times, he overthrew Rudolph (in double coverage, too) and completely whiffed on the hail mary at the end of the game. On one play, he had Rudolph wide open against Michigan on a slant (there was literally nobody within three or four yards) and missed low and behind Rudolph. He guns EVERYTHING.

He has a far better arm than Clausen and he can move much better than Clausen, but timing and accuracy were all Clausen's. Clausen's timing with Floyd and Tate was virtually perfect.

His positives:

- Arm
- Leadership
- Impact on team
- Mobility
- Pocket presence
- Eluding the rush
- Being safe with the ball (Generally, he can make bad throws every once in a while)

Negatives:

- Accuracy
- Touch
- Deep ball
- Timing with receivers
- Does not make good decisions under pressure

As I mentioned before, I didn't know what to make of Dayne before the season began. With the game against Michigan, and how things have come out since then, I am very happy with him as our starter. I think he will have a very good ND career and beyond.

I think he'll be pretty good this year. With another year...he could be GREAT. And in another year? BEASTLY.

"Prayers for Crist staying Healthy" thread! :D what you say?
I mean for real..the dude is fantastic and can only get better. Hes what we need and he can take us all the way. Its beyond exciting!
...but he REALLY needs to stay healthy...cause all that is the opposite if he doesn't!!

Where are all those who questioned his toughness on Saturday. Played through it to move the first drive into the end zone. Hopefully, the accuracy will come. Otherwise, you can't ask for any more from someone in their 2nd start.

GO IRISH!

I still do. Now that we know it was not a concussion and from what we hear, never really thought it was, it have to wonder. He has to know that the team does not stand a chance without him on the field. They should have to drag him off the field and he should be begging to get back on.

You again. The staff pulled him from the game after he had trouble understanding the play they were talking about over the phone. It wasn't his call

I got blasted over the weekend questioning the injury. Heard everything from concussion to stroke. Now, when we know it was a bruise with some swelling, still not "allowed" to question it. You are entitled to your opinion and I will have mine.

I want to see him on the field for 60 minutes just like everyone else. We can't afford him not to be from what we saw on Saturday.

I was talking about you questioning his toughness. He was pulled out of the game it wasn't his call. The reason you were blasted is it seemed every other response by you was questioning his toughness when you had no clure what was going on. You pretty much were adding nothing besides bitching and moaning about Crist

Reps.

It should never be the kids call. Never.

Always the decision of the medical professionals. Always.

Err besides the blurry vision (concussion symptom), the fact that he couldn't remember the called play (memory loss, concussion symptom) made the staff question his readiness to get in. I can't judge Crist on 2 game work.

We'll know in 10 more games how things are going to shake out, and I guarantee that most everyone will be smiling by that point.

Maybe we should rename the thread to Crist love fest and only favorable opinions welcome.

It's not about Dayne's toughness.

We weren't on the sidelines. The medical staff wouldn't approve him coming back. That's not his call. And, more than that, it shouldn't be.

Athletic trainers are not hesitant to tell a kid he can play, but it will hurt. But, if it may lead to more permanent injury, you don't mess with it. That's all.

Go to ****in rivals if your gonna be like that. I can understand questioning a foot, leg etc, but a head injury? And it wasn't even his call to leave the game. Its ok to be critical of his play, but your being an ******* about it. Could you imagine if he went back in diring the first and got reinjured? Kelly and staff would have a **** strorm on their hands. Oh yea and you'd probably be bitching how he never shoulda gone back in.
