I think the Astros had a lot to do with it, for whatever it's worth.

They were doing it against Cleveland as well. Astro’s pitched well, but when you have two strikes you need to protect the plate not watch the ball.

The Giants have targeted Judge and are prepared spend whatever it takes, a person with knowledge of the Giants’ thinking told NJ Advance Media after meeting with members of the franchise’s ownership group. The person, who isn’t authorized to speak on behalf of the team, was granted anonymity.

“Judge is at the top of the Giants list and they won’t be underbid,” the person said. “If they miss out, it won’t be because of money.”

There is no such thing as “built for the playoffs.” Every team that reaches the playoffs is good enough to win the World Series, no matter how they are constructed. “Ball go far, team go far” is about how you play when you get there; if you don’t hit for power for six months and then turn into the 1961 Yankees -- the 2014 Royals did this in going 7-0 through the AL bracket -- that’s fine. You can have a bad bullpen that turns into the Nasty Boys for 40 innings, like the 2018 Red Sox had. You can have a mediocre set of outfielders who take turns being Frank Robinson for a month, like the 2021 Braves had.

Very happy for Dusty. Even as a White Sox fan living in Chicago, I couldn't help but like the guy when he was with the Cubs. 25 years as a manager and he gets a World Series at 73 years old. He's my dad's age. Remarkable.
