If Hendrix was starting?
Based on what we have seen from Hendrix, this year: 1-9, at best.
Without Tommy Rees Notre Dame goes 1-2 to end 2010 without a bowl appearance and with a 5-7 record. With Dayne Crist in 2011, let's just assume they drop one of the close games they won, and finish 7-6. In 2012, who fills in for Golson against Purdue, Stanford, and BYU? No one, and 9-4 happens. Without Tommy Rees in 2012, either Hendrix of the true freshmen who has never played in a spread starts and Notre Dame goes something like 2-10 on the year.
2010: 5-7
2011: 7-6
2012: 9-3
2013: 2-10
Think about that when you think about booing Tommy Rees.
Who??
Sorry, but I think this is sort of an odd thread. Personally, I don't boo any college kid, unless they exhibit arrogance/poor sportsmanship/dirty play (Manziell, e.g.) or a clear lack of effort. So booing Rees anytime is just inappropriate, though in the heat of the moment, I can forgive it as an emotional outburst.
But to single him out for thanks strikes me as odd; he hasn't done anything extraordinary, he hasn't done more with less, and he hasn't brought any particular honor to his team or his school. He's played hard, been a good team player, and been more or less successful, just like most or all of the seniors. In fact, the premise of the thread is "let's thank him because he has absorbed a lot of abuse because he sometimes played very poorly at the worst possible moment." I say that this is the premise because if we were thanking him for the big relief performances last year, e.g. (which I agree were clutch and for which he deserved, and received, praise), well, he'd be in the same category as most of the other seniors, who have also had their moments of glory, too. But no one is saying we should specifically thank them.
No, the premise here is that the fans have been unfairly hard on Tom and he deserved better, so now let's apologize. But if you look inside, I bet most of you are kind of glad to see him go. It's not personal, but -- again, be honest -- we need to be better and deeper at quarterback. And that's on -- not Tommy, who did his best -- but on Kelly.
So in the end, I applaud all the seniors, including Tommy, but he doesn't get special praise from me, the way a Manti or a Nix (who has played hurt) or even a walk-on like Will Salvi would.
2-10 this year? A lot of assumptions there.
Of course there are assumptions, but I don't think he'd have what it takes to beat any teams outside of Temple and Air Force (with how everything else played out), regardless of how he looked against Stanford. That fellow from Texas looked alright against Alabama in the 2009 championship too, but then what? We've seen one good game from Hendrix, and then a boatload of Crist-like nervousness and mediocre play the rest of the time...
Not true, how many QB's would have set aside their ego and allowed a red shirt freshman to upend his starting job and furthermore how many QB's would be completely silent about it? He has done plenty of extraordinary things on the field and helped ND win more than theY have lost. As a group ND fans need to realize this kid was a three star prospect coming out of high school, has he played bad in games? Sure what QB hasnt? Has he helped ND win lots of ball games? Absolutely.
Tommy Rees did not fail as ND's quarterback.
I would like to think Malik wouldve gotten some snaps if all we had was him and Hendrix. Like after coach Kelly saw Hendrix suck he would have put Malik in.
There needs to a new hashtag, you know, like #ThankSeniors, because I really do think that we are going WAY overboard on the praise of just ONE man.
Has ANY player in the Senior class been singled out for praise in this thread OTHER than Tommy?
No, and I think that is where the thread has taken on a life of its own, one that palinrus explained very well. Tommy is NOT about Tommy Rees ANY MORE than it is about any other senior, and I think we really, truly need to stop praising him like he was Paul Hornung, or even Rick Mirer.
Has he been integral to the success of the team? Not really. Other than spot duty for the team last year, he has been pretty much the embodiment of mediocrity at the QB position, and as palinrus also pointed out, that is MORE on BK and his staff than Tommy, because if ND were developing better signalcallers, we would not be in the same situation two years later.
So I will be happy for ALL the seniors, not just for Tommy, because EVERY one of them deserves their fair share of praise, not just Tommy.

2-10 this year? A lot of assumptions there. I like Rees a lot but I'd also argue Hendrix would have had decent success had he been "the guy" and gotten the reps Rees gets. Hell, 2 years ago Rees got jerked at Stanford and Hendrix settled in and moved the ball and we all wanted him to be the guy going forward. Tommy has done a lot for ND, but I think we're over-glorifying here a bit. JMO.
Also, nobody is going to boo a player being announced during his entrance on senior day. It's ridiculous to even think it. He'll get booed if he throws some terrible picks during the game, but no way during the announcement ceremony.
