Refrained from posting week 1 cuz…week 1. BUT…it’s week 3

Riley Leonard kept Denbrock’s (aka Brian Kelly’s offensive philosophy) worst tendencies at bay. Saved him from himself. Forever grateful to Riley for that.
All the hype needs to be earned. And this year Jadarian Price should be getting the ball a lot more.
It is not Chris Ash’s fault he has no defensive tackles but it is his fault he cannot coach around a position of weakness.
It is his fault he can generate no pressure.
It is his fault the tackling is butter soft.
It is his fault everyone on his side of the ball, Adon, Bowen, Young, Traore, Sneed, Gray, including the D tackles have taken a step backwards.
That is malpractice. And these kids should not have to sacrifice a year of eligibility for this. MFMF needs to make the hard call. Enough of Ash.
We just put up 40 on a talented Elko defense with a QB roughly as experienced as you or me, and being part of a winning football team as a QB tends to lead to a lot of amnesia about your faults and limitations. Riley might be the most over-canonized player in ND history not named Tony Rice. I'll take Carr any day.

Almost forgot…

Eli Raridon played a helluva game. Stud when it came to receiving. Missed a blocking assignment or 2 but overall excellent.

aTm had 8 TFLs

ND had 2 TFLs

Both QBs averaged about the same YPC

Craver had over 200 yards receiving despite some saying he wasn’t that great & padded his stats vs 2 bad teams.
My goodness

Sampson and Fortuna indicating on the post-game show that the staff was made aware either late in the game or after the game that Carr is tipping off the play call in some way. How another staff sees that and Denbrock/Gino don't, I have no idea. Will be interested to see what it ends up being.
Were they made aware that Ass was also tipping off his play calls?

I’m so curious if this is gonna turn out like ND-Texas 2016. A seemingly heavyweight matchup that ended up being two below average teams, because man it really felt like that game while watching it.
We have a much better QB than 2016. You’re thinking ‘08 or ‘09.

According to Sampson and Fortuna, we ended up with Parker over Klein because the QBs (including Tyler "hold my beer" Buchner) didn't "vibe" with him? Yikes. I didn't realize that.

So the awful coordinator hiring is worse than I thought.

“Chris Ash expressed his intention to uphold Notre Dame’s defensive culture, play fast and violently, and build upon the existing success of the defense rather than starting a rebuild. He highlighted that the hiring wasn’t about “my defense,” but about “the Notre Dame defense.”

Opponents averages vs Chris Ash’s Defense in the first two games…

Points Per Game: 34
Total Yards Per Game: 406
Sacks Per Game: 0.5
Turnovers Forced Per Game: 0.5
Tackling: Piss Fucking Poor

They had two weeks to prepare for A&M and this is the defensive plan that he comes up with? There was a reason why no college program wanted this guy and that his sorry ass was an NFL scout and not a coach.

My comment is less about Riley and more about Denbrock. I also like CJ Carr. 90% of my original post was about the defensive coordinatorthe remainder was about the offensive coordinator’s calls this year. It is not a QB comparison. Keep up.

Possibly the worst loss I've seen since following ND. And blaming Buchner is stupid. Get a big stop, just once.
I agree the close game is indicative of ND’s struggles, especially on defense. And the way the game went, with a lot of bad calls, bounces, and luck, we were likely to lose in OT anyway. For two straight games, solid QBs are just sitting back and throwing zingers down the field because there is no pressure, no sacks. And no effective blitzes. This year, the O is a lot better (or, at least has the potential to be a lot better) Huge problem!

Chris Ash and Tyler Buchner.

Also…. That’s not targeting. And that’s an obvious holding on 4th down.
Tons of holding they didn’t call. Also, that call on TAMU’s kickoff TD was a bad call and we go down by 1 but WE get the ball last and probably slow play clock and instead and score last to win the game. That was just bad luck.

Anybody blaming Buchner needs to be banned from the board.
Yes, I’m sorry I made that call in the passion of the game. I just replied to another poster, we were likely to lose in OT anyway the way the game was going against us (bad luck)

The defense in the 2nd half played very well. It’s concerning that Ash can’t make adjustment until half time.
I don’t know. I’m no pro analyzer of a game, but it just seems for 2 straight weeks, pretty capable QBs are just sitting back and throwing zingers downfield because there is no pass pressure or any sacks or effects, disruptive blitzes like we had last year. The O will surely keep us in the game but the D is giving up huge chunks of yardage for too much of the game. And right now, the team, but especially the D, has a confidence problem. That’s the feel the team has. Rudderless with no strong leaders that give the D confidence they will hold the line and prevail in the game.

This is a bad team. Small, slow, no instincts.

I hate what the DL does.

I hate what the OL does.

I hate what the the DB's do.

ST had some good stuff, but Buchner's mistake was KILLER.

The coaching sucks for OL, OC, DL, LB, DC.

I really, really do not want to see direct snap to Love ever again.

I have no idea what they did for the previous 2 weeks.

That said, they scored 33 offensive points, so that's pretty good. When JD and Love break out, look out.

Haven't see the likes of Carr at ND in a long, long time. He has a chance to be great
Soooo many thoughts.

Start with the big one. 0-2. They have lost 3 in a row. Absolutely unacceptable for a team with this much returning. Sure we have a new qb. He is NOT the problem.

Offense:
- wildcat was not great. Sure J Love got that one conversion.
- Jd price was great tonight.
- greathouse one catch through 2 games. This dude was one of the best receivers in the playoffs
- Line still with way too many busts. Better performance
- you score 40 points against Elko, you expect to win

Defense:
- where do you even begin? 41 points. Yikes. I really do think it’s the worst defense since 2016. Our db’s were supposed to be one of best groups in the nation. Outside of Moore, they have looked BAD. You need to be able to play someone better than Hobbs out there
- d-line just doesn’t get home enough
- KVA not being out there on the last play is coaching malpractice.

Special teams - outside of that td return have been solid. Got kind of bailed out on the flag on the last return. The botched extra point is on Buchner: feel for him but that was just atrocious from an experienced guy

But isn’t this a lot of the 2024 team that was playing solidly by the end of last year? They’re not being inspired or motivated to play fheir best. And/or, they are just not playing to their huge potential.

Feel like I’m back to pre-2017 Kelly with complaining about refs in losses but It’s just so egregious.

When your D is playing below its potential, that's when the calls and bounces (and dropped interceptions) seem to go against it.

There's just a lack of confidence in winning right now and there's no personality of optimism and grit.

People saying it's the worst loss they've seen or that 2024 is erased really need to get a grip lol. Not going to meet expectations this year. Can't waste Carr. Need to re-tool OL/DL in the offseason. And probably get new coordinators.

AD needs to tell Freeman “you win 8 games, finished ranked, beat Boise, Purdue, Arkansas, Navy, USC, & Stanford as part of those 8 games or you can join him in the unemployment line.” But they won’t because likable coach, going to class, & graduations, and quality young men with no wins or championships gobbeldy guck that always gets thrown around when we have a trash program but people act ok with it around these parts.
We were national runner up last year. Get a grip, lol

Was watching with friends who love seeing me miserable and even they were like...why is there no flag
There also was an obvious hold we all could see on that last set of 4 downs on the 2nd or 3rd down; refs called nothing...

I love Freeman but the accountability and ownership banter is getting kinda old. Two weeks ago you looked like a soft team and last night we literally looked like we were playing the sport for the first time. I lost count how many time our DBs were shouting at each other and confused pre snap. One more boomer complaint. Jeremiah Love reposted his comic book ad legit a half hour before kickoff against Miami. After the loss last night he reposts his TDs in a losing effort. He was also talking tons of shit it seemed after every play. Just don’t know where his head is at.

I'm sorry but the whole "we made a national championship run last year" is just a participation trophy type attitude and I don't accept participation trophies.

Some of you may have a whole shelf full but not me.

MF won't do it, but they need to get rid of Ass now.

Let Mickens take over.

He won't be any worse.

I am never in favor of player revolts, but I wouldn't blame the defense for walking into Freeman's office and saying, "It's him or us. Make a choice."

Regardless of the DC I think we aren't as good as we thought we might be. But, we aren't this bad without Ass.

The same people on here screaming we set ND back 5 years are the same dumbasses selling their tickets to A&M fans. Get with it. The sky isn’t falling. We have an extremely young team, Carr looks fantastic for going up against 2 extremely good teams. To put up 40 on an Elko defense as a Freshman QB what more could you ask for? The OL actually played a lot better last night and once Jagusah is back they’ll be even better. Yeah playoffs are probally out of the picture unless something crazy happens but you got 11 more games to prepare all our underclassmen to go for it next year. We should return majority of our roster minus a few DT guys, Fields and Pauling, Love and Price and a few others. We just lost our first two games with a New DC and QB barely each game coulda went either way. Maybe we shouldn’t have scheduled two good teams right away but I’d rather play two good teams than 3 cake walks. Get the young guys developed and ready? Do we need another DC? I’m guessing if we give up 30 to Purdue or Ark we probally do. A&M probally has one of the better Duos at WR in college and then Smith is a scratch it changes up the trajectory of the game.
Georgia gave up 41 to Tenn yesterday
Clemson has 2 losses

I’ll add one more thing the only offense during the regular season last year that was remotely close to Miami or A&M was USC and they put up 35 on us under Golden
