TE concerns?

Anyone have concerns about this year and the experience at the TE position? Our current compliment of guys has less than 20 career catches between the four of them.

In my opinion, Fasano was a great receiving tight end and we don't have much experience in that department now that he's gone.

I know we've got two top flight receivers to catch balls from Brady, but if I'm Quinn I still want to have a big security blanket, especially since its an option CW has used heavily on all of his past teams.

Opinions? Am I just nit picking?

Konrad Reuland is going to probably see some good playing time - i'm not too worried about Charlie having every position ready to contribute. Konrad:

First-team tight end on USA Today prep All-America team for 2005

first-team All-America tight end selection by CSTV

Any time a starting TE leaves, the next in line won't have a lot of catches. Generally, even in TE happy offenses, the secondary TE's don't get many balls thrown their way. The key is to take advantage when they do.

So yes, a lack of catches is a concern, but experience really should not not be. Carlson logged 143 minutes of playing time last season. In addition to that time, he was also in on 243 ST plays. He has plenty of time under fire on the field. He is actually a step up athletically.

Freeman logged 63 minutes plus 85 ST appearences. One of the tidbits of info that has come out of campus this year is that Freeman has had one of the best offseasons on the team as far as training and conditioning are concerned.

Add Reuland and Yeatman to this mix and we will be fine at TE.

There are three positions that I will never really worry about with this staff-QB, WR and TE. I feel good about the future of the OL as well.

Carlson and Freeman are very good TE's in their own right...I wouldn't be surprised if as a whole we were more impressed with the TE play this year then last.

No Worries. We have 2 quality starters and some newbies that will get some snaps. I couldn't be more satisfied with the depth at TE.

YA im not worried at all yes we lost a good TE last year but Carlson and Freeman are very formidable TE's with plenty of experience just didnt catch as many balls as fasano because obviously he was the better threat. I believe these guys do a good job of blocking which is a big part of a TEs job...

I think Carlson and Freeman will do fine. I also think that Reuland will see playing time, but I have faith in these guys to win.

Carlson is said to be as good as if not better than Fasano was. No worries here.

Once all of the terminology is down, Reuland will get some reps. He's really going to be a good one.

Carlson and Freeman are both adequate replacements for Fasano, but I wouldn't be surprised if Reuland got most of the PT by the end of the season, he has a chance to be a terrific TE.

Could be, but my feeling is that he'll need to put on a lot of weight and strength. He's got to learn how to block at the college level. Plus he needs to learn how to run routes. My bet would be that he sees the field but won't be a starter until next year.

For what it's worth Ty used to have Freeman ahead of Fasano on the depth chart a couple years ago, he and Carlson are both very good, it's just that Fasano was the man. I think we'll have this luxury in the future at WR, QB, and OL

Freeman reminds me a lot of Oscar McBride....a very talented player that is just very under used.

CW has it covered

CW has it covered

Not to imply that anyone thought otherwise. I just feel like any concerns we (the Notre Dame Fans and Alum) may have, have already been addressed by Coach Weis and his staff. I am not worried, as I have faith in the competency of Charlie Weis.

No worries here, with Carlson and Freeman starting and Yeatman and Reuland in the mix we are stacked this year. Ragone coming in next year, and a top TE every year after, from then on we'll have the titles Tight End U, Wide receiver U, O-LIne U, and of course Quarterback U. My worries, I believe will always fall on the defense who has to try and keep up, but I feel like in the coming years that gap will start to narrow.

Yeah! Carlson is pretty good he played basketball for Notre Dame, not saying much but he has good hands and eyes cord. He has been waiting patiently behind Fasano now it's his turn to shine.

No. One poster asked it. The rest of us pretty much calmed his fears. We are in great shape at TE.

Don't be surprised to see many two tight end formations during the coming season!

I am concerned a bit about the TE's myself, simply out of lack of experiecne....

BUT, Personally I'm more concerned with the ability and depth at the Wide Out pos. What if McKnight or Shark get hurt??? DJ is already out and then what, we rely on Grimes to be a true and steady threat? On the Offensive side of the ball I'm a little worried about both the TE's AND WR's...

Then you should be simply terrified over who's going to throw the ball to those TEs and WRs, if Quinn goes down against GT.

Or if Darius does.

Or Harris.

Or Laws or Landri.

Or any of the Unknown Starting LBs.

Or the kicker (who ever that is)

The depth and experience at TE AND WR is among the least of the position depth and experience concerns on this team.

lol... hence "offensive side of the ball," not too worried about the Backs wiht the depth there... Quinn is a concern, but the O line doesn't seem as glaring
