Spurrier on getting older: “The Pope is 77 years old and he’s in charge of a billion people. All I have to do is put 11 on the field.”

Sadly some of this came true (Sad I guess if you like Spurrier) but I thought it was funny since every coach does kind of say the same things at the beginning of the season:

I always liked this interview with Rece on Lou, but the impersonation of Spurrier at the end is classic:

Spurrier is a sack of crap and I'm glad he's gone. He never got over Bettis running roughshod over his #3 ranked team in the Sugar Bowl and used every opportunity since then to bad mouth ND.

One less ND hater to get a weekly vote in the coaches poll every other year.

My favorite Spurrier moment was when he did a press conference or interview where he sounded drunk. Maybe it was dementia. Something about those initials, USC.

Gave me a whole new respect for Rece. Appreciate that bud.

Lmao at the comedy bit. Sounds a lot like Les Miles and his nuance..

Yeah, I've come to respect Rece, he's alright in my book. I think he's pretty fair, and he's spoken very highly of Lou in the time he's worked with him:

Spurrier never got over the 18th ranked Irish kicking his ass in the Cheerios Bowl.

Which made his connection and personal friendship with Lou all the more interesting and confusing, even if it was through their wives.

IIRC, Steve's wife befriended Lou's wife when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, while Lou was still coaching at ND, and they became fast friends.

Then when Lou was retiring, he suggested that SCar go after Spurrier to replace him.

I think that is about right, but one of my fave memories is that particular Sugar Bowl. Not only because I was there either. :)

I never saw a pre-game/crew so giddy with excitement over what they were so sure was going to be an Irish beating/humiliation... did Lou and the boys ever sh1t in their Cheerios...

The hush of the crowd in the Superdome was SOOOOOO sweet.

Every crowd that I saw was so pro-FLA, and rightfully so, but it was quite the enjoyable second half, that is for sure.
