Recruiting is hard. It reminds me of a stool softener commercial I read for years ago. I'll never forget the opening line:

'Life is hard, but your stools don't have to be'.

Going into the first actual football game of the season, 22 verbals and ranked fifth on Rivals.com

Talented class offensively. Some interesting DB prospects that could bolster Mickens' resume down the line.

At worst it's in a solid place right now.

If you look at 247 2026 top 100 recruits there are like 2 players from Ohio who have already verbal to tOSU and all others are in Deep South. Crazy.

On the plus side, there's an Offensive Tackle in the 2026 class from my home state (Massachusetts) that already has 14 offers, including: Michigan, PSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, VT, Wisconsin. He'll probably end up as a top 100-150 player when all is said and done and if ND offers I think they could be a real player.

Is there any concern about our class ranking?

Adding in Lambert bumps them back to #7. I think Freeman has a couple tricks of his sleeve if they beat OSU.

while the defensive recruiting is underwhelming at the moment, I don’t remember an offensive class being this good top to bottom in a while

Haha I’m fine. Just discussing the class.
Ha. It could be better, sure. I worry we took too many three-stars on D and the OL. Hopefully we close on Lambert. But there are some very good players and a lot of quality depth.

Overall class rankings are funny things, especially now, since half these kids will never make an impact at the schools they sign with. You just won’t know which half for a couple years yet.

We are ranked 13th with not a ton of room left to move up.
12th but I’m not concerned if we are around 10 fine this staff has shown the ability to find talent that isn’t m
I do feel we should be recruiting to a higher standard that we currently are.
i think Freeman is doing excellent considering what he has to deal with pay for play the days of landing. If it wasn’t for NIL we would have a top 5 class this year and last

Who is the great under the radar talent we’ve found and kept?

Recruiting imo is significantly improved on skill positions vs Kelly but falling behind a little in the trenches.

Recruiting isn’t good enough to be consistently around the top(if that’s the goal, it’s mine). next two seasons concern me unless we hit the portal or grad transfer route great.

The only position I’m not thrilled with this year is OL but I don’t think it matters as we’re pretty stacked there. And that would change with the addition of Lambert. Every other position has an elite talent mixed with some great depth. Sky’s the limit for the program imo. And if we can get to 11 or 12 wins then I think it’ll help 2025 immensely.

Plenty. With few exceptions, programs simply don’t win NCs with the talent level we are currently recruiting. We’ve landed a couple of highly ranked skill position prospects and that’s great, but it obscures the fact the we are backsliding in other areas and are not showing overall improvement. If Freeman can’t get top 5 classes at ND, he will take a job somewhere that he can — and I wouldn’t blame him. All that said, I think he will get us there.
