I wondered out loud after the Declan Sullivan incident how a student getting grievously injured in an accident during football activities and dieing could be treated so much differently then when a player was grievously injured in an accident during football activities and almost died. Both cases, believe it or not, involved some negligence from a coach or official. With Declan Sullivan you can argue a coach should've known better then to allow someone up in the tower. With Stafon, apparently a USC S&C coach was spotting him when his accident happened.

Expect USC to settle for an undisclosed amount.

Lawyers can argue anything for 40%.

Why is a coach responsible for the portable towers?

Does a coach oversee the ushers in the stadium?

Is a coach responsible for an NDPD vehicle getting hit because it happened on a Game Day?

If a football player gets food poisoning from an undercooked burger in the South Dining sue the coach?

If the Observer reporter covering the Blue & Gold Game falls down the steps from the Stadium Press Box, sue the coach?

In each there is a Supervisor, a Department Head, etc in the chain of command. Fr Jenkins as head of the University is ultimately responsible for policies and procedures and the decsisions made by the army of people working in his organization.

ND is responsible as Fr Jenkins already acknowledge. It takes the world leader in sports to blame a coach so they can get a sensational headline.

Not saying I agree/disagree w/you BGIF but to play Devil's advocate here...

When the economy is in the dumps, who do we blame, the economists? No, the President.

When there are no jobs, who do we blame, the companies not doing the hiring? No the President.

When a baseball team is underperforming, who do we blame? The coach of course and not the players doing the underperforming.

We live in a society now, that rightly or wrongly wants to place blame on one person that is in the public eye rather than the appropriate party(s). I don't think BK should be punished for the events of that day, nor do I think SC should be but you have to agree that society plays a huge part in this. Just like it did for the Seeberg incident.

The only thing that gets me about Johnson is I really wonder if he was doing something wrong while lifting. Maybe he was lifting the weight and tossing the bar up and catching it, I think I remember hearing it was somewhat of a lighter weight for a bigger running back like he was. If he wasn't throwing it, he definitely didn't have his thumbs locked around the bar which is still wrong. However, If a Strength coach was there, both are responsible in my eyes.

They'll probably settle out of court and make him a moderately wealthy man for a little while...
Kinda seems like he's stabbing the program in the back...not that I care as its USC

Does this really suprise anyone in today's society?? I am being sued right now by some lady.... The lady was got her car stuck in the snow, and I, trying to be a good sumaritan, was trying to help push her car out when my hand broke thru her tail light.. Instead of maybe thanking me for trying to help her out, she wants me to pay for her 25 dollar brake light... But wait, there's more, not only the 25 bucks, but also her lost wages and gas for having to get multiple quotes, all in all 1250 bucks....

I end up with stitches in my hand for trying to help out, and yet I am being sued... It's the American way.... Maybe I should sue Chevy for the cheapness of the damn brake light...

You could counter-sue very easily for bodily injury incurred while helping her. Fight fire with fire.

Also, sue the state for not having the snow cleared. Man, I hate to hear your going thru it, but you will come out on top. Some people work hard trying to figure out a way to get out of working for a living!

Or ask her if she needs a lift... Then tell her to stick a jack up her a$$!

Isn't there a such a thing as "the Good Samaratian" law that relinguishes a person from lawsuit if it wasn't gross negligance?

Depends on the jurisdiction in the US. But usually, if the person gave consent for help, you shouldn't be liable. However, each situation is different.
