Now that the football lottery is over and people are starting to scramble to find rooms (myself being one of them) I wanted to get some opinion on where to stay, where others have stayed, and what avenues they have used to get rooms. The idea is to help avoid some dumps in the area.

Any insight you guys can provide is greatly appreciated.

Anything I have found online for nice hotels in general area ... sold out! I was looking for the Navy game. I can use this thread for some help myself.

honestly though your best bet is in Mishawka or even over the border in MI. Most of the season ticket holders already have the hotels booked and people who only put their names in the lottery for one game have made reservations early. If you have any relatives in SB, or friends on campus, i would just rough it on their couch for a night

I only live an hour away, so I don't generally look to book rooms in the bend, but I'd check Plymouth if I were you.

When the wife and I went out last October, we stayed at a Super 8. It wasn't the one that is closest to the stadium, but it is right across the street from a shopping center and it was clean. Not incredible accomodations, by any means, but you don't spend much time in the room anyway. And they have a free continental breakfast!

My house a mile from campus is for sale, and we are moving into a new one in late August. If it doesn't sell by then, I may entertain rental offers on game weekends.

Varsity Clubs in Mishawaka is pretty nice, short drive. Some ND stuff to look at in there, probably booked for the season, though.

Try a hotel in Niles, MI. Most people don't think about it but it's only like 15 minutes away.

And CarrollVermin, "myself being one of them?"

Really? The incorrect use of the word "myself" (how about "me" or "I"?) drives me to drink vodka laced cheap beer.

What were we talking about?

Sorry for the syntax errors; will be sure to watch for those in the future.

The main question is where have you stayed in the South Bend area, and what was the hotel like? There are a few hotels available, Super 8, Comfort Inn, etc., and am curious to know if these places are clean, safe, and otherwise habitable for a few nights.

Last year I stayed in the Microtel in Elkhardt. Place is pretty inexpensive, only about 15-20 minutes from campus, and was actually really clean. Considering you take the trip, and most likely will be out the entire time except to lay your head down at night, this place was perfect for me. Right off the highway in a very public area so safety wasnt really a concern either.

Consider staying in Warsaw IN. It's approx. a 35-40 mile drive to So. Bend. Motels are clean with lots of eating places around and you won't be charged an arm and leg as you will be in So. Bend. Good Luck.

Stay close to campus. Sacrifice a little luxury and comfort to stay as close as possible. There is a lot of stuff to see and do all weekend and you will want to limit your drive time to maximize your time on campus.

My wife and I stayed at the Staybridge Suites in Elkhart last year for the Western game. Very nice place...great breakfast, reasonable price(125$) and only about a 10/15 minute drive to campus.

I have stayed in the Econo Lodge on the way to the airport it is older and not the best of places, But it is a place to lay your head. If I remember correctly there was a 2 night minimum. Here is the Address
3233 Lincoln Way W.

South Bend, IN, US, 46628

Like I said it is not a 5 star place but was clean.

Actually CarrollV, for some reason I was under the impression you are a recent ND grad. Why not hit up some of your buds and stay in the dorms?
