I posted this in the introductions and welcomes already, but I kind of realized no one goes over there, so here it is again.

I am going to my first ND football game on November 13th, and I am looking for suggestions for the town. I have been to South Bend before, but for the UNO-Notre Dame hockey series a few years back. I love the town, and got to tour the campus and Joyce Center and even snuck into ND Stadium (cool experience by the way), and caught the College Football Hall of Fame. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Any suggestions for accomidations, places to eat, parking on gameday, tailgating, sights to see, etc.?

Seeing as its your first ND game, I would try to get to all the traditions...

Drum Circle on Friday, players and band walking before the game, mass after the game, etc... I'm pretty sure ND has some good info as to the when, where, and what on their website.

a place that i like to go to for just a leisure place to go , is the South Bend Chocolate Factory, the one right by the College Football Hall of Fame. I don't think their is anything real unique, just a nice place to relax.

but the other suggestions are all very good

The College Football Hall of Fame is in Atlanta now, isn't it?

It's pretty much a done deal, per ESPN from a while back:
The National Football Foundation notified the city of South Bend in a letter Tuesday that it is terminating its agreement with the city when its current lease ends on Dec. 31, 2010.

So all the more reason to get in to see it now!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I wish I could see the pep rally on Thursday, but we won't get in until around 7-8 PM Friday evening. Is there anything that goes on then? And is there anyone willing to let me and a couple buddies tailgate with them? We just want to take in the whole experience, but we don't know anyone in South Bend, haha.

Anyone know a good, cheap hotel within about 30 minutes to the stadium?

All help is appreciated!!

Plenty of good. No cheap. We stay at the Ramada in Elkhart (15 minute drive to stadium on I80). Nice hotel with a lounge/ restaurant and a nice pool for the younglings. I think it ran us about $170.00 a night (with AAA discount). Get online now and book early. There always seems to be availability in Elkhart somewhere.

Try the bed and breakfast registry for lodging. It's a group of local people who rent rooms in their homes on football weekends.

I'm staying at the Staybridge Inn and Suites in Elkhart for $122 a night. Looks like a nice place, rooms have complete fridges etc...here is the website: Staybridge Suites ELKHART Hotels | ELKHART NORTH | Welcome

Anyone have any info on how long it takes to get from Elkhart to South Bend, the mileage says about 15? Quicker to go on the interstate or backroads!?

Thanks guys, go Irish!

Caruso's Candy Kitchen in Dowagiac Michigan. It is about 20 minutes from South Bend, my family owns it...home made everything
