I agree with you both. I wish him the best of luck. Maybe he can find a new home where you don't have to earn your playing time, where your are just given a starting job because you were a 4 star high school athlete.

Look at it this way, we have another scohllie open up. Another defensive player, yeah!!

This from "Blue & Gold Illustrated" 2010 Football preview: "Transferring was a tempting option. "I was contemplating it alot...but I didn't want to be seen as a quitter...I had never quit anything in my life, so that's what drove me to stay here."

Umm, care to follow up your quote now Shaq?

umm, when did he say this?? Cause I am sure the recent depth chart publication will make him change his mind.

This was after Charlie getting fired. He didn't transfer because Weis left. He claimed he didn't want to quit, but he would have if Weis stayed.

Shaq said 6 months ago, "I'm not a quitter".

We are saying he's now being a hypocrite.

And losing a WR is not a reason to panic. We have guys significantly better, and young players with more potential. WR is an alright spot to lose a player.

I just don't understand Shaq, sounds like a Prima Dona... This only makes the teams chemistry even better.

Best of luck Shaq, hopefully you start to get your life sorted out.

Only Shaq Evans knows at this point, but things are not looking bright for Notre Dame fans who were looking for him to be the next Golden Tate.

The next Golden Tate? Really? Who comes up with this stuff? No offense, but it was obvious that Tate had some really special skills, in his freshman year. Shaq Evans has shown practically nothing (except maybe failing to make a key catch on 3rd down, against Michigan) since he arrived on campus.

I was thinking the same thing

Here's what I think. I want people at ND that want to be at ND. Guys that are willing to work for their time because they feel they should earn playing time, not have it given to them. Besides for more depth, I'm not too concerned about him transfering becasue obviously he isn't that great if he isn't cracking the 2 deep. I'm sure he can be good, but it won't be given to him. He won't be playing anyways if he does transfer so I don't think that will solve his playing time problem, suck it up and earn a spot, or get it over with and leave and let ND have another schollie for a kid who wants to work for playing time. I hope he chooses to stay, I do, but there is a reason he's not playing. So keep learning and fix it!

I hope for his sake he makes the right decision and tuffs it out. He will be happy about that decision 40 yrs from now. With that said receivers are the easiest position to reload to in any system, and this system can make them look like stars. That is fact. I hope he stays and gets the right direction from home friends/faculty etc.

My foggy crystal ball says [based on the minimal things we actually know] that Evans knew that he was not going to get the playing time that he'd dreamt about and certainly was not going to get the opportunity to star. His self image is strongly bound up with football stardom and he doesn't want to give up on that yet [afterall this fellow is still a young man with a dream---we may have opinions about how much he has sacrificed to achieve his dream, but I'd wager we don't know what we're talking about there either]. So he is left with darned few options. Transferring in the hopes of playing time is probably the only way he can maintain his young goals. So, assuming that Kelly knew what he was doing when he evaluated Evans as a third teamer, I cannot blame him for taking his one shot at his fading dream. I wish the guy well. Dreams are hard to come by. To those who are now cursing and berating him in this very down moment for him, I say "trust Kelly that WE don't need him" and hope that someone else does. Go for it kid--make the effort and catch a piece of your star.

Kudos, Mr. Old Man Mike. You are wise beyond my years. I am happy to accept the title "Curmudgeon-In-Training" while handing the crown to you. Carry on!

I am not happy....Fight or Flight...looks like Shaq wants to bail- I must agree I am suprised that he is not starting. I know if he would stay he would get reps and prove himself...lets see how this plays out...I am sure Kelly is challenging him right now....

Honestly though, do we really want someone on our team who is willing to bail when the going gets tough? I say goodbye, we will be fine without you. Like Lou Holtz used to say "If you don't want to be here fighting for your teammates there's the door"

I feel bad for him... trading a Degree from Notre Dame (who would have upheld their commitment to Shaq despite the depth chart btw... ;) ) for a degree from Oregon??? One of these worst academic schools in the Pac 10???....

real bad choice if a pro career doesn't pan out Shaq. Also, when you are a college student from a blue collar family on a budget... Oregon is no closer to LA than Indiana is.

oh well.

Thinking about it this makes me so much more appreciative of what Dayne did.

I'm not too excited about this.

Let's not pretend there won't be some worries next year if Floyd leaves.

Thank God Kelly is our coach.

You act like ND has a weak depth chart at WR.

We have plenty of other WRs that have bought into Kelly's system and have great potential.

I will not lose a second of sleep over Shaq leaving.

Guess it was a good idea switching Theo over to WR after all?
