Probably but it’s targeting by the definition of the rule so unlikely they’ll reverse it

I thought botehlo looked like he was trying to wrap up and finish the tackle, crown of helmet hit, but i dont think it was intentional. so targeting is just always targeting if crown of helmet hits somewhere?

As most others have said, Hartman is bailing out Parker. If there’s not another experienced QB in the portal this offense might be in trouble next year.

Bohtelo targeted him by the letter of the rule it was targeting. The rule sucks and it’s insane but he did hit the player with the top of his helmet. The rule to my knowledge places no limits on where the contact occurs…

The rule is so silly

You are right but it is not call consistently. That’s the problem with it.

Correct. Intentional or not doesn’t matter anymore. Crown of the helmet anywhere on the body is targeting. Which, I get from a player safety standpoint, it’s just a rough rule.

Most calls aren’t called consistently. Take the one OPI penalty against Tobias. His push off the DB didn’t seem that blatant. We’ve seen more egregious OPI non-calls. Then the non-penalty where “he didn’t work back hard enough to the ball”. 9/10 times that’s getting called for DPI. And it should’ve been called last night.

The problem that caused all of this madness on offense last night is the lack of a downfield threat. For most of the game it looked like a DPyne game locking in to a tight end.

Haven't logged in for years, but I'm entertained enough by all of the regulars' posts to keep following IE...and I've been excited/frustrated enough over the past two weeks to break my silence just to get this off my chest. This is perhaps the most talented team I've watched at Notre Dame since the start of the BK era. And it is perhaps the most poorly-coached team I've watched over the same time period. Otherwise, all the best to everyone I used to spar with years ago, I hope you're all doing great. - AD

And we're starting to see who he is as a coach. Again, this is the worst LSU defense I've seen since the Pelini Covid year or the Lou Tepper teams. Trust me, the LSU fans are livid. I wouldn't be surprised if "For Sale" signs weren't staked into his yard like they did with DiNardo.
ND fans who weren't in the tank for him (e.g., Irishdrunk) have known for years. But when we said good riddance, that he was a fraud and not a championship caliber coach, we were told it was just sour grapes. The grapes taste great, and are aging well, thank you very much.

I mean, if that’s the case, then you should appreciate LSU taking him off of your hands, right? You can’t fire the guy. He took ND to the NC and two Playoffs. When he left ND, they were still in contention for another Playoff appearance I believe. It looks like LSU did ND a favor.

Truthfully, this is spot on. This team has Championship capabilities, but the coaching, collectively, is far off.

I believe that's implied in the "good riddance."

That was always my concern. Even if the offense was good, how much of it would just be Hartman being Hartman?

Offense is gonna be loaded next year you can’t waste that in a new QB
This is the dilemma this coaching staff faces for 24. An awfully tough position to be in, but that’s the result of the poor QB recruiting/development in prior years. Big lesson learned hopefully.

That is correct. That is why I say ND won despite the refs. And F the replay/rules guy on the broadcast. Talked about it like it was no big deal.
The dude didn't even know the rule in real time. The RULES EXPERT. Why the hell should he even be on if he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about?
