Out coached!? If the bar is "send 11 players on the field" then sure. But Day made a shit ton of mistakes in that game, and it all stemmed from the comments Lou made and trying to show the world how tough he and his team was. It should have cost him. Unfortunately we made too many more mistakes then they did. If there ever was a game that lived up to the mantra: "the winning team didn't win it, the losing team lost it/gave it away" this was it.
I don’t think Day was proving anything over Lou. I think it was a gimmick. His rant was like a staged WWE Hulk Hogan skit. He likely did it to gain attention bc he’s been criticized as having a vanilla personality. He played the “I love my guys” card to try and flip a recruit or something. It’s all a game at that level. He doesn’t care what Lou Holtz said.

I think we have a Top 10 team of players with a Top 5 upside.

I think our Coaching Staff is Top 15, at best. HC, OC, DL coaches are not Top 10 caliber either due to inexperience or inability.

Other than money, there is no reason ND shouldn't have a Top 5 Coaching Staff but we don't.
I disagree on the coaching staff. They are solid top 10 as a whole. Jury still out on Parker but so far pretty darn good (better than Tommy IMO). Sam throws that screen 2” higher we have a big gain and game is over. It was a good call against a good run defense selling out against the run. Unfortunately, Sam was rattled from the prior play IMO and rushed the pass a bit. Not on the coach to expected a 6 year QB to execute a simple screen. It was wide open and completely fooled OSU.

Duke against RBs this year

Victor Rosa 14 for 68
Camryn Edwards 12 for 43
Cam Porter 10 for 49
Jamar Curtis 10 for 40
Will Shipley 17 for 114
Phil Mafah 11 for 65

RBs are averaging 4.9 YPC against Duke. We're not talking prolific running attacks here, folks. Clemson's line has major issues. Northwestern and UConn are some of the worst teams in D1.

Without a totally flat effort after last week, I struggle to see Duke being able to stop the offense.

If we see a frichan slow designed run play up the middle on first down to estime for no yards I will lose my frichan mind.

Rewatching the HL of the Clemson game, it looked to me that Clemson beat Clemson. Turnovers have been their Achilles Heel in their losses dating back to last season. Same w/ FSU game. They shut held FSU running game to less than 50 yds. Sack-fumble-scoop-score turned the tide.

Clemson had 50 more total yards and 12 more first downs. 12.

I'll go to my grave saying that overtime, +/- on first downs is the best tell of an offense's ability to move the ball and ultimately score. Score itself, total yards, other metrics are all too situational/game dependent.

Yeah, time to move on to Duke. Their rating is totally a byproduct of the Clemson stunner. And there was plenty of hokum in that one with Dabo's boys shooting themselves in the foot over and over.

Quirky personnel note on Duke-they start 4 transfers on defense including our boy JaMion Franklin. Other three are Al Blades from Miami, Jeremiah Lewis from Northwestern and a DE from Harvard. OL was rebuilt in the offseason by adding two transfers- Jake Hornibrook from Stanford and a C from Harvard.

I don't think any of the P5 transfers were leaving as starters on their previous schools except Hornibrook and Stanford line wasn't good. I can't imagine a Harvard transfer being anything but a back up at ND. Not the kind of moves you'd expect to see from a top 20 program but there aren't a lot of 4 star guys in their system either.

We'll see on Sat night but I'm not seeing a team that can match up with us.

Armstrong two weeks ago was a good prep for what we're going to see with Leonard.
Definitely good prep, Leonard is a little faster and will be a bigger challenge, but i'm not sure if duke or nc state has a better oline.

Armstrong they run more than leonard, but leonard breaks longer ones.

There's also the distinct possibility that Clemson just isn't very good.

They still have to play ND, Miami, UNC, and South Carolina. They're looking down the barrel of an 8-4 season if they don't improve significantly.

IF they improve, I just hope that it's AFTER the Irish show up at Debo's den! Cuck Flemson!!!

We need to come out pissed like that lineman who destroyed Rudy in practice.

Good point. I do think that Miami straight up beats them straight up next month. I've been really impressed with their turnaround this year, and it looks like Cristobal nailed his two coordinator hires.

Clemson limping into that ND game would be a welcome thing.

We'll see how good MF is at the mental aspect of the game. Will there be a hangover?

A couple days ago I actually bought this line up to ND -6.5 and got +100 on it. I think ND is going to win by two scores.

Leonard has only been sacked twice this season. I suspect ND’s strategy to contain the QB in the NCST game will be utilized to some extent vs Duke. Most teams that have beaten Duke have spied Leonard according to Eric MacLain of ACC Network
