If I keep reminding myself that I'm going to die. It still doesn't change that fact yes I am.. Time to put your big boy pants on.... Just a recommendation from circa.

Are you advising the hypothetical fan I invented as an example of a stereotype how to act like a man?

We need good positive energy in order to help our boys. They have Internet now thanks to the guy that gave it to everyone for free and we pay.

Book dislocates a finger on his throwing hand and 5*Phil comes in and proves it.

DirectAltruisticGallowaycow-size_restricted.gif

He better play a lot better then he did Saturday.

To be fair, there's a big perception difference between beating 8-4 LSU in the Citrus Bowl and going into a Top 5 SEC team's stadium and taking one from them.
But, yeah, if we do win, it'll be "Well, Georgia's focused on the title that really matters: The SEC." Then, if Georgia loses a second, we'll hear "Them Irish didn't dare play Florida tho."

Exactly. This game trumps all those middling bowl wins over LSU. This is a top 5 opponent which ND hasn’t beaten since 2005. Add in the fact it’s an SEC powerhouse and it’s at their vaunted home stadium, it adds even more luster. BTW, Fromm has never lost at home.

We lost at Miami, but won at OU and if it weren’t for a BS flag, we would have won at FSU. We came back against Clemson at Death Valley. We generally play well against good teams on the road. Besides BK has changed the mindset of his teams as evidenced by the win at Louisville. No one panicked they stayed the course.

I think the negativity overrunning the board comes from 3 mindsets, which are not necessarily exclusive:

1) Part fact. We are double digit underdogs. That usually goes poorly.

2) Part guarding hearts against hoping so you can't be hurt. "If I keep reminding myself we are going to lose, this will sting less."

3) Part wanting to gain some perverse enjoyment of the likely loss by being able to claim that at least you were correct in your assessment. The dark side of the ego and the id, but this definitely happens.

That’s about right. I’d add another. Lou Holtz always used to talk down ND and talk up their opponent...whether it was Rice or Miami (think opposite of his dr. Lou persona). It’s more effective when ND is decided favorite and those tend to be the more stressful games.

Has Fromm ever played anyone at home?

Seriously. The East is trash and they play Florida neutral site every year. I guess he has played Auburn?

These are all accurate. I'm mostly #2 but I'm part all of these right now. This is how I always feel when we go against one of the truly elite teams.

But the good news is by Wednesday of game week I go bi polar and am convinced we are going to triumph.

If you guys can stomach me through Wednesday I'll be, dare I say, a breath of fresh air.

Also history. These road matchups rarely go well for us.
History is the best guide. We will be over matched and I expect to lose by a lot. I just moved out of SEC country and they have no respect for the Irish. We get compared to Vandy, which is stupid. But, when looking at coaching prowess, recruiting ect we are closer to Vandy in a lot of areas then we are to Bama (Georgia).

I am glad to be out of SEC country on the Sunday after another Irish blow-out. That is a big benefit to leaving.

Fromm never losing at home is not really that impressive. By my cursory search, their “best” win would be against a 4 loss Miss St team in 2017. I think Miss St was decent that year but I can’t find any other wins against ranked teams. I found a LOT of cupcakes though.

Meanwhile just last season we beat Va Tech (ranked) and Syracuse on the road (I know, but still closer to them than us). Neither game was competitive really either.

I use to be this way. I miss it sometimes. But the years of disappointment have made me more resigned to not competing against the elite anymore. Settling in to accepting being a tier two team.

We’re not closer to Vandy than Georgia or Bama! Maybe in academics, but that’s insane with regard to EVERYTHING else. Come on man! Just because some people in the south don’t know what they’re talking about doesn’t mean it’s true. A close friend of mine ( resides in GA) had assumptions about ND until they nearly lost up here in 17. He admitted ignorance and has vowed to keep an open mind. The people down there are myopic to an extreme when it comes to football.

That game against Vandy last year "proved" there point. We struggle with crap teams and a narrative is born.

We ain't Vandy for sure. But, we are no where near Bama or Georgia (Clemson) either.

We have trouble running the ball, and our WRs seemingly are having trouble getting open. Book is not comfortable in the pocket right now. Throw in the fact that our stud DEs are not getting home (outside DH), and we have one of the worst run defenses in the country. Sure our passing D is good, but Clemson showed that elite athletes can eat up this secondary.

I'm all Irish and never back down from a good trash talk, but I don't see it happening for this game.

No. That proved that we played a bad game in the midst of an undefeated season. Even if some won’t agree, this team is right at the top of the second tier. Vandy is not even in a tier. Give me a break.

I’ll grant that ND isn’t quite in the top tier, but it’s ludicrous to say that we are in Vandy’s tier. I’m not being disagreeable here, I just can’t believe anyone actually truly believes that..... We are very close to that top tier. We just don’t have the depth - yet. Clemson players even stated we were better than Bama last year (not sure I agree). We had some bad breaks against Clemson and no depth when we lost a couple key pieces. That’s why we lost by 27 (a point less than Bama btw) and not 7-10 points

Dang, I thought this was hyperbole. I did not realize we were 120th ranked against the run. I knew we had issue but wow. Only worse P-5 team is Georgia Tech who gutted their staff and pretty much hit the reset button.

Ranked 68 overall. Not like our schedule has been hard. Woof

Just to let all the fair-weather fans know what a fair-weather fan is.
It's acting like your a fan until the team needs fans. Go ask Nicky Nick about the rare occurrences.
Carl Jung noticed this actuality of the unconscience long ago.
Everyone loves winners. Everyone else loves people that believe in something they can't understand.

Actually Tier 3 according to the Irish Illustrated guys.

Tier 1: Bama & Clemson
Tier 2: tOSU, OU, UGA
Tier 3: ND, LSU

Yes, super fans need to be the Jim Jones type follower to prove their stripes.

Oh goody more psychology! We will have to start diving into the psychology of a person who frequents a message board and dissect the why in every post. Then we can turn to Maslow and McClelland and get really stupid!

Of all those, I’m least concerned w/ the DEs. They’ve faced two running QBs who, when they did pass; took 3 steps & chucked it. They never went thru a progression & ND knew they couldn’t pass efficiently so they dropped the DEs into coverage a lot.

Against Fromm, they’ll finally face a traditional drop back passer who will go through his progressions. The caveat is that they’re also going against the best OL in the nation. Okwara, Kareem & Hayes can make a lot of money Saturday night if they can get to the QB often against that OL.

I don't know the psychology of loving something more than you should. I do know the psychology of wanting to see things fail so you can be better than the part your paying attention to. Women have shown me the best part of this analogy. and I love me some woman.
By no means Is this message a neg on women.
