He's been "out" for "non injury" reasons that the media knows about, but won't seem to elaborate about. It's been that way for the last few weeks apparently.

I did read a strange tweet he put up about not playing while injustice was going on. I assumed at the time I read it wrong as nothing was made of it.

Book seems convinced that's he's about to get blindsided on every play. He's got happy feet sitting in a perfectly clean pocket.

Just checked in.... Without a better view, it’s hard to tell for sure, but it doesn’t appear the WRs are getting any separation. Book has been what he is when he’s excited/nervous. I want the Book that’s mad and/or trying to prove himself like we saw at the end of last year/first 2/3 of his first year starting. Defense settled in and making some plays. The Duke playcalling is WAY better than ND’s. Missed tackles are a problem we need to go away. Thank goodness for Hamilton and Kyren.

Hoping for continued pressure on Brice, Kyren runs, more downfield passing, better tackling and getting some creativity in plays. I think we win, but it shouldn’t be this hard with the talent gap

I don’t want to be doom and gloom but how do we keep letting this happen with inferior teams. Fuck this is embarrassing.

Brian Kelly + an experienced QB. It's the same recipe over and over... And over. And over...

Then he fires the OC that coached the highest scoring offense in ND history and happens to be the best recruiter on staff, to replace him with a kid in his 20's, who has never been an OC, at any level.

You serious Clark? Kelly has got to be forced to fire some more of his buddies and hire a few real coaches . Talent is not the problem. Until we play the best qb and develop him with a real coach and great system. We destroy the losers and get rolled against top 5 teams. I’m now content with 10-2.

Name one skill player who would have started on pat year’s playoff teams? Ian Book is not in the same universe as last year’s quarterbacks.

That being said, you’re right on the coaches. His best hires have come from outside his buddies. Our best OC, DC, ST coordinator, and S&C coach all came from the outside.

STs and D played well.

OL, Book, and play calling stunk. Especially the OL, and especially Kraemer. How the OL can look that bad vs Duke is beyond me. 38 rushing yards... I don't want to hear our RBs just aren't that good. DLs just pushing off our guys to make the tackle (more than once on Kraemer) and close the hole, and the constant penetration... The OL was pitiful in both phases.

Jafar seems to playing the satellite role I thought he would.

We need more misdirection and edge running. And more throws on the move. And enough of the 1st read shallow designed plays.

Iowa State got smacked around by Louisiana today... Not LSU. Louisiana. Maybe people can stop riding Brock Purdy's and Matt Campbell's nuts.

I don't disagree about Book's happy feet, but to say "perfectly clean" to describe our pockets so far is hilarious. Our OL is stinking in both run and pass blocking.

I am trying to take solace in the dact that Duke’s OL has also looked like crap.

A lot of my hopes for this season were based on experience at QB and OL. So it’s REALLY disappointing to watch this performance.

He literally had a perfect horseshoe pocket on one play, that he dropped out the back of like an idiot. He took his drop and then kept sliding back with no pressure to his front. Of course that will give way to pressure, eventually. OL don’t block vertically in pass pro. Common sense stuff that he just doesn’t grasp yet.

We had no spring ball and a rocky fall camp interrupted by COVID. IMO expecting us to come out of the gate firing on all cylinders is a little much. Certainly don't feel very good about what I'm seeing, though.

Right, but Duke had the same hurdles to overcome. They were ready on both sides of the ball. Brice looks light years better than Book. ND’s defense struggled w/ missed tackles early but seem to have turned it around. Experienced OL is porous in both run & pass protect. Book looks like he did in Sept 2019. Cutcliffe taking over play calling has made a huge difference along w/ much better QB.

ND’s defense needs to score. Book needs to calm down or he’s going to force more bad plays.

There is nothing worse than when Brian Kelly silently stands on the sideline with that emotionless, confused, face.

I agree 100% on a few plays. But they were a few. Most were far from horseshoes. I think book simply suffers from trust issues, and needs to get popped or mad sometimes to do what he's supposed to do (and that's totally on him). But OLs typically don't just look good in one phase, and bad in another. They've looked good a couple plays, but overall they've been bad. And they've looked horrible run blocking, and just not buying the "but they're consistently giving him a pocket" stuff.
