Ive been away for a few days but I have said that with the way this season has gone so far that I think the future of this program is that we are a 6-8 win team with maybe a few BCS season sprinkled in every 6 years or so. This comment has gotten me more red reps than any of the other crazy **** I have said over the last 4 years of posting here.

I truly think that that is just our destiny. With the exception of last year every year since 2008 we let a team that has no business even competing with us beat us and we always seem to let at least one of our "big" regular season games get away from us maybe more than that. This season I think there is a very good possiblity we could finish 7-6 or 8-5 depending on who we played in our bowl and even though Golson might be back next year with us losing some of our defensive players I dont know how some you think that we are destined to be any better than the middle of the road type team that I think we are.

This isnt a fire Kelly thread (if we fire kelly I think all of us need to come to grips that our time wont come again because Kelly is the last coach that would want to come here with some potential to be great) this isnt a thread where I think the sky is falling (if 8-4 seasons include wins over USC year in and year out 4 losses to respectable teams and bowl wins ehh not great but after sitting though some 3-9, 5-7, and 6-6 years where we lost to our biggest rivals and lost our bowl I can live with being only a few games above .500 in that scenario) I just want to know what makes you think we can make the next level again. What makes you think that next season will be any better than this season. I want to be as optimistic as some of you so please sell me on why I should feel as positive as some of you.

Unfortunately these people don't get it. Like the dark side, the hatred runs deep within them. And most are smarter than me and you, you or I, us, or however IE says its supposed to be.

I don't think anybody gets anything you're talking about.

i think it is a safe assumption that usc will be in the top 25 tomorrow after its win vs stanford which will mean that ND has beaten 3 teams that will be ranked in the top 25 (sparty, asu and usc)

only one other team in college football has beaten 3 top 25 teams and that is Stanford.

3 teams have beaten 2 (georgia, the gamecock and bama)

yes ND played a horrible game and lost to pitt, but beating 3 top 25 teams in a season isn't too shabby, especially when you consider what the team has gone through since the season has started and what we have at QB. I admire Rees for sticking around and his accomplishments at ND. He just isn't what Kelly needs for his system and Martin needs to stop calling plays as if he has Golson out there.

People need to look at the big picture here and really think about what the team has lost compared to last season and look at the MASH unit that ND has fielded for most of the season and also think about the fact that Kelly has really only had his kind of QB for one season in his four years at ND. Next year he gets that QB back. Yes there will be questions about who takes Nixs' spot and ILB could be a question mark also. But the offense should be very good.

Kelly wasn't given the reputation of being a program builder, he earned it and let's remember and admit that ND hasn't been consistent for nearly 20 years. That doesn't get done over night. Bama hasn't always been the top of the heap. Saban had to build that program up too. Even he has lost to a team that was a "WTF" moment.

People really need to relax and quit acting like last season was a fluke and this season is the 'real' ND. Take a few deep breaths and really think about what has transpired for the past 6 months with the program

I agree with everything but the last sentence Marv... Until ND consistently wins ten plus games, regardless of circumstance, last season is 'the fluke' and every other recent season is the norm... Because well, that's just how it'll be until it isn't.

True, but a bad one will single-handedly bring a team down.

Krenzel wasn't the focal point of the offense. It was a downhill rushing attack, with Clarett leading the pack with over 1200 yards rushing. ND doesn't have that type of offense, nor do they have a running game of that caliber (yet...). In addition, OSU had a dominant defense that held all 13 regular season opponents to 21 points or fewer. They were ND of last year with a better rushing attack.

That doesn't work for ND however. They run an offense that requires a playmaker at QB. If not, it severely limits the offense and it's capability to exploit mismatches. ND has unparalleled talent at the skill positions, but QB is well below average.

In other words: College football is NOT all about QBs.

My point is that Vince Young was not the best player on that team. You should know that stats are what they are. That's what I'm talking about. Plus, I am talking about the whole season not just one game. For the love of FVck you amaze me!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, pretty please go on about who was better than Young on 2005 Texas.

Notre Dame has beaten 3 currently ranked opponents (#23 USC, #17 Arizona State, #14 Michigan State) with a below average QB and a completely injury plagued defensive front 7.

We've also lost to two unranked teams.

The answer to this thread lies in the turf and jumbotron thread.
