is it just me or do we offer every TE in the top 300? kind of strange considering the spread offense probably doesnt call for a true TE alot of the time. seems kind of odd to me...

If you notice, you'll see that each of the TE's we've offered have some speed. I'd love to see Rudolph in motion and get a lot more looks this season. Hopefully Kelly will utilize his TE's more than Weis did. I think Rudolph is more of a weapon than he was able to show last year.

The TE was a staple of Weis offense since he arrived at ND.

Fasano or Carlson ring any bells? Rudolph set the freshman TE receiving record under Weis. Both Carlson's (as a Senior) and Rudolph's (as a Soph) production were hurt by inept OLines which required the TE to stay in frequently to block. Sometimes the TE stayed with the turnstile LT and sometimes the TE was put in motion to chip block on the other side of the OLine. Am I the only one that recalls that Rudolph missed a 1/3 of last season with a serious injury? Or that Eifert only played in one game with a back injury? Or that Ragone has a history of bad knees which has drastically reduced his PT?

ND was forced to use Bobby Burger at TE/HBack as well as Romine and other backup OLs last year due to injuries and OLine ineffectiveness.

Fans bitched last year that ND didn't run the ball enough. Should we have reduced another 5 running plays to throw more to the TE standing next to the LT or to the one dressed in street clothes with his arm in a sling?

Considering Tate, Floyd and Allen out of the backfield, ND probably had the most talented collection of receivers in ND history last year to play with Rudolph (when he was healthy and didn't have to block so they could catch passes). How many passes thrown to Tate would you do over to throw to Rudolph?


This is no defense of Weis as a head coach or OC but rather a reality check. No coach in ND history utilized the TEs (including multiple TE sets) more effectively than Weis.

i have to agree with this as it is sensible and true! i really cant add anything.

i do recall watching cinci last year and the te getting quite a bit of action, more than i would have expected out of that offense but he was on the field alot and made a decent number of catches, usually WIDE OPEN, he was the brother of the old qb from a couple years ago and was a pretty jacked up dude. everytime i heard his name it reminded me of the guy who smacked nancy kerrigan with a stick before the olympics... jeff gillooly

Ben Guidugli 27 catches last year 364 yards and 3 tds.... quite a few more catches than you would expect and the guy seemed to be around the ball more than that. i am not concerned about lack of use at the tight end position.

The only thing to add would be that it would be nice to see Ragone catch a ball for a change during the game, he always looks good in the prac videos but can't find the handle while the game clock is running.

Yep I noticed. Heck it might not be such a bad idea to offer all top 20 H.S. T.E.s

Very versatile athletes. Can play good O or D at most positions. (When you have speed).

very true, if your loaded at te they may be big enough or fast enough to convert to another position. kind of like athletic qb's can always be converted to other spots of need! thanks for the alternative point of view doomer!
