What I loved about it so much is that someone needed to do it, but there are very few people who have the opportunity to do something like that and actually hit their mark. Gervais is a Labour Party supporter, he is not a friend to conservatives. But being "one of the group" and having the balls to point out the rank hypocrisy of Hollywood progressives is something special. His delivery made it spectacular, and it's the main reason why the following happened:
1. Most progressive outlets have decided to just take it on the chin, with only a few (LA Times, Slate, etc.) being dumb enough to complain about what Gervais had to say. And when they did, they got dunked on a second time for missing the point.
2. The winners who were stupid enough to not realize the effect of the monologue then got exposed a second time for being tone deaf and out of touch as they went up there and pontificated.
3. The biggest Hollywood Twitter activists like Alyssa Milano, Rob Reiner, etc. have had no comment. Because how can you?
A few days or weeks from now, we will see those are secretly seething start to work behind the scenes against Gervais. He will be #cancelled at some point. But for a beautiful 8 minutes, Ricky Gervais got to go on national television and say what the vast majority of Americans believe.
