Outstanding.

You decide if I'm talking about his monologue or those melons.

So when Michelle Wolf gets up and says mean jokes about Trump and conservatives, it’s free speech and amazing comedy. When Gervais gets up and says mean jokes about Liberals and Hollywood Elites, it’s mean spirited and dickish. Got it.

Great job Gervais!

What I loved about it so much is that someone needed to do it, but there are very few people who have the opportunity to do something like that and actually hit their mark. Gervais is a Labour Party supporter, he is not a friend to conservatives. But being "one of the group" and having the balls to point out the rank hypocrisy of Hollywood progressives is something special. His delivery made it spectacular, and it's the main reason why the following happened:
1. Most progressive outlets have decided to just take it on the chin, with only a few (LA Times, Slate, etc.) being dumb enough to complain about what Gervais had to say. And when they did, they got dunked on a second time for missing the point.
2. The winners who were stupid enough to not realize the effect of the monologue then got exposed a second time for being tone deaf and out of touch as they went up there and pontificated.
3. The biggest Hollywood Twitter activists like Alyssa Milano, Rob Reiner, etc. have had no comment. Because how can you?

A few days or weeks from now, we will see those are secretly seething start to work behind the scenes against Gervais. He will be #cancelled at some point. But for a beautiful 8 minutes, Ricky Gervais got to go on national television and say what the vast majority of Americans believe.

He'll be good. He's got Netflix deals on Netflix deals, probably for his next 2 series and next 3 stand up specials already signed. And the Office is too popular, so he'll still reap those syndication dollars from there as executive producer of the US one and the creator of the British one. Plus he's done more for animal charities than any 5 celebrities combined, so if people want to #cancel him for 8 minutes of talking, they'll have to somehow try to shit on his charity work. Actually, the way people do mental gymnastics these days, I could probably see that. I reckon he lost a little bit of his audience, but grew it in areas he wouldn't have imagined he could pull fans from. He's never really done too many big studio movies or network TV shows, and the ones he has are in his past, and he's basically Netflix golden boy. They're gunna have a hard time taking him down.

It would be pure gold if he had his own "roast" show.

But agree, those were 8 very beautiful minutes.

As LAX pointed out, Gervais is far from a conservative but he also despises hypocrisy & PC culture. The brilliance in what he did is that he took a viewpoint that most fair-minded Americans (Right or Left) can agree on: Hollywood Elites are out of touch w/ real Americans. Whether it’s the Never Trumpers from the right, the Libertarians or blue dog Dems...they can all agree on that topic. Most of my conservative friends saw the headline and assumed Gervais went scorched earth on Trump. He was too smart for that and was wise enough to stay on his own turf. Bravo.
